Great video from wow 4 years ago. Yes, I've bought a couple shopnbc stinkers, didn't have to pay much, but the $$$ could have gone to servicing good watches. Had a Subdate and a DJ36, sold both, but can't say I regret buying them, just weren't for me.
My first luxury watch purchase was in 1999 where I bought a Tag Heuer Link quartz chronograph from the grey market for $1000. It was a huge regret! I wouldn’t even consider buying a quartz now, or even a Tag Heuer! Even worse, I found out the grey market dealer filed off the serial numbers! I ended up getting rid of it for $300.
The 'Datejust 41' you mention is actually the predecessor 'Datejust 2'. A seriously cool watch and in my opinion a collector's piece. Although what each of us consider beautiful, is entirely subjective!
@@watchwithme91 smaller watches definitely have more finesse. I believe the industry will continue to move in that direction. As for bad watch choices- we've all been there, we live and learn!
Fun video, thanks for sharing! The 2nd gen 42mm SMPO is hands down their best, I don’t entirely get why they insist on maintaining both a 45.5 and a 43.5 in their line up along side a 39.5 but 🤷♂️ while I think you learn a lot about your tastes and style with each watch and everything we do is done in hindsight... I’d say for me by and large all the Microbrand fluff was a waste and I’m still trying to sell some of it... in no particular order I’d also say that the Panerai California 424, 36mm Day-Date on leather and my 2nd Milgauss; all for different reasons.
I learned through watch purchases that my sweet spot is 40-42 mm and under 14mm thick. I don't wear my Seiko MM300 as much anymore because it's thick. I wish there was somewhere were people could trade watches. Nobody likes to lose money when they sell so they might be willing to trade if the watches are similar price. The watch I regret was the citizen night hawk it was too big. I was able to trade it though.
I had a blue dialled Super Avenger. I sold it for the same money I bought it for too before they tanked in price. I remember the distinctive rotor wobble that used to vibrate my wrist 🙈
Not any brand per se, but THICK AND CHUNKY (more than 42mm size and 14mm thick) watches. They are simply too much for my 6.5 inch wrist. Nowadays i just dig 36-40mm watches with thickness of 7-13mm max.
Great video. I feel you on the big watch thing. I am (unregrettably) still on my "crap watch" phase but I am slowly moving upmarket. Fortunately, I am averaging much more than thirty cents on the dollar for most of what I am selling off because tend to collect more unconventional watches and I keep them all in mint condition. Fitting to this video, my biggest losses are on watches over 42mm. Keep up the good content, man.

Fun video! I've had a few stinkers too but it's like you said - we learn and evolve 👍🏻
Absolutely, even John Mayer has said he regrets the first 10-20 watches 😂

Happens to most of us! I remember wanting a quartz Tag so bad when I first started collecting.

Correct Datejust 41 II, I think I’m just not into the 41mm size. I do love the 36mm DJ

The micro brands can be a dark path.

I have always liked the night hawk actually, although I’ve never owned it. I’m sweet spot is 38-42mm
Love the AP!
To each his own.

Yessss hahah the wobble. That’s really any 7750
Definitely wish I could have avoided a few of those! What watches do you all regret?

Agree
To many micro brands........
Haha, I hear ya.
Seems like you were in denial about the size of your wrists in the early days!
Hahahahh
Wow, I can’t believe all the amazing pieces you owned. It really sucks that you lost 5K on that AP!! Thanks for sharing these amazing stories brother!
It’s been quite the journey so far
Just for reference, whats your wrist size Anthony?
Around 6.5”
@@watchwithme91 that makes everything more relatable now.

I think you’re right about watches over 42mm are at a greater risk of losing value.
