  • Let's do it. This is probably the single most requested guitar I've ever had on the channel. They don't send them out for reviews, and they're hard to get a hold of. Let's pick through the details of the exhausted Aristides 060 6-string modern guitar. No wood, just magical Arium squirted into a mold. How did it work out for them? Let's check it out.

    Great review! To be more specific, the guy i bought it from sold it with the 4th position not working. I just had it rewired to a traditional 5 way setup and didnt touch the push pull function. It still has the schaller megaswitch m, so that is the wiring set up currently running in it. You should have all positions of the switch working right now. By the way i picked up a set of thornbuckers after i saw your video on them. So glad i did. They are probably tied for 1st in my favorite pickups lol

      Ha! Yeah 4th sounds like a telephone almost. I'll have to redo it at some point but I'm not in a rush. If it only had position 1, it'd do 99% of what I want to play on it :P

    As far as modern guitars go I want multi-scale. The change in string tension does make a difference and I find the fanned frets easy to navigate so that did open up more options for me. Also looking into headless options is another thing too I think those 2 are ways to get over that modern guitar fatigue.

    Been waiting for this one. Nice review as always. Bonus points for Opeth. "Modern guitar fatigue" hasn't set in for me (never owned a $2K+ high end guitar). Instead, I would call it "modern guitar paralysis," as in I can't choose my first high end guitar based on the overwhelming options and brands. So I'll keep living vicariously through you until inspiration strikes.

    • @TheGuitarPit

      That's just it...they're all great. They all do what you need. So really, it just comes down to style, shape, brand preference, etc. I don't think anyone is missing out by going Kiesel over this. Mayones over Music Man, etc. Pick your poison! They're all awesome.

    Aristides are costum made. There is a list with specs you can choose when you order one. Every guitar is created with specs the player wants. Paintwork, pick-ups, hardware is all like the previous owner ordered it.

    Your bridge appears to be slightly off its location post (high E side). The sting relation to the edge of the neck is slightly off and the front edge is not sitting parallel to the recess rout . Should just pull in to position if you detune and gently push until the two points on the high E side pivot make equal contact on the post.

    • @TheGuitarPit
      @TheGuitarPit  5 лет назад +1

      Yeah I noticed that too. I tried to fix it, but when I retune it seems to want to slot back in as it is. I'll try another adjustment next time I take the strings completely off.

Wanted to let you know the Eastman I bought, does not disappoint, especially for the price, the best fretwork I’ve seen and polished ebony fingerboard looks amazing! Lollar pickups sound great! And stays in tune well for that style headstock! So if ever need a backup for your Gibson, would be a great option.

    Very nice guitar and review.
    My dream, “progressive” guitars are Mayones Duvell and Aristides 060 with the biggest frets I can get my hands on, but like you said, I’d also be happy with a LOT of other metal guitars.
    While the arium is interesting, there is something magical with Mayones’ open pore exotic necks. Maybe I’m just old and love wood.

    • @TheGuitarPit
      @TheGuitarPit  5 лет назад

      Yeah that's totally fair. I dig the look of wood too, even if it doesn't make a huge difference for this sort of high-output tone. The Arium seems to do just as good of a job. But hey, I bet a Mayones would get you there too :)

    Great review. A couple of points that might justify the price: 1) there is no outsourcing, so they should have the the best quality control. You can't compare it then to the price of a made in Korea ESP or a made in Indonesia Ibanez but to the upper end Made in Japan models where you know they are being properly checked when they leave the factory. 2) Being not made of wood, I won't have to worry about things like fret sprout, neck bowing, uncomfortable neck joints, truss rod adjustments that I would probably have to worry about with wood guitars since they are subject to the elements. Also, I won't have to kill any endangered rain-forest trees to make the fretboards. 3) the raw color option makes it under $2500 or so, which makes it competitive to say, a Keisel which can get quite expensive once you add in all the exra bells and whistles as well.

    • @TheGuitarPit
      @TheGuitarPit  4 года назад

      Yeah totally fair. Their factory looks state of the art too. Not to mention our currency (in the States) probably doesn't go that far over there. I love the idea of NO wood...zero movement anywhere. They're awesome guitars, certainly. But yeah, big money.

    • @shanewalton8888

      @@shanewalton8888 I think I actually saw them mention that in a video. It's just to make people feel good, mostly haha. Interesting comparisons between 'all modern type guitars', do you think if you put thornbuckers in it you'd get a more versatile sound, or does the construction dictate the sonic characteristics?

    • @TheGuitarPit
      @TheGuitarPit  5 лет назад +1

      That's a good question. I'm not sure in this case, because the material is pretty unique so Thornbuckers might sound a lot different than what I would expect? I'm not gonna spend $500 to find out, but for high output stuff, this thing hangs with all the other top notch guitars in the same bracket. When I did that swap on the Vigier it certainly changed the way it sounded, but didn't get it 100% to where my Suhr is, so I think construction and materials certainly play a role.

    I’m not surprised at all about guitars like this sounding good, or things like digital modeling tech sounding good. If you can get the sound you want out of it, it’s silly to think, “but this guitar isn’t that one wood that they’ve been using for decades, that would sound much better.” I think this guitar you are demoing is great. Thanks for making the video!

    Yes I agree they are pretty much flawless. I think compared to wooden ultra modern guitars it is entirely down to the tones you get at the clean end as to what you'r going to like. For instance a Suhr Modern can easily be specked to cover vintage tones but this can't.

      The Guitar Pit
      at the moment the collection is:
      Ibanez Sz320, a mixture between a les Paul and a Ibanez because it has a very thick mahogany board with rosewood board and 22 frets and 12 inch radius but is a strat shape.
      Daemoness Atlantean, a weird custom made guitar with 24 frets, a Ash Board and a Floyd, not a superstrat at all.
      Esp LTD Eclipse with a Floyd, 24 Frets Mahogany Body and neck, Ebony Board and EMGs, 14 inch fretboard radius.
      Jackson USA WR1, Quintessential Metal Guitar with Alder body, Ebony Board and Maple Neck with a Floyd and Dimarzios, 12-16 inch radius.
      Aristides 060 as I’ve said.
      PRS SE Holcomb (Of Periphery) with Mahogany Body, Maple Neck and Ebony Board with 24 frets and Seymour Duncan pickups, has a super flat 20 inch fret board radius.
      Ibanez RGIT, like an regular rg but neck thru.
      Jericho Baritone with Evertune, 17 inch radius, Dimarzio Pickups, 27 inch scale, Ash Body, Maple Neck, Ebony Board with 24 Stainless Steel Frets.
      Ibanez MMM1 baritone, 28inch scale, Mahogany Body with Mahogany/Purpleheart Neck and rosewood Board, 12 inch radius and 22 frets.
      I will clarify that the Aristides is one of the best guitars I’ve ever played alongside my Daemoness and my Jackson.

      It’s the 22nd in the gallery, doesn’t necessarily mean it was the 22nd made but both Dylan and Barnes (Social Media manager and Artist relations.) have confirmed it’s a old one.

    Lots of Opeth in here!
    I don't play nearly enough different guitars to make a call on that, but going by specs modern guitars are kind of homogenized. Emg, bare knuckle, Dimarzio or a seymour Duncan. Stainless frets are becoming the norm, much the same brands of high preformance hardware, wood the same thing and woods not doing a whole lot with the pick ups that are put in there.
    Stuff like Fenders, Friedmans, prs, suhrs,... All either their own pickups their own hardware,...
    Seems not unlikely. A lot of the time a brand is jut the look or the vibe you want to put out there I suppose.

    • @TheGuitarPit
      @TheGuitarPit  5 лет назад

      Yeah it's just Opeth Bleak all the way through, except the clean demo haha. But you're right, homogenized is the right word. If all guitars have bareknuckles, hipshot hardware, and SS frets...the differences are tiny. Fit/finish stuff still applies, but ANY of the top brands are gonna be nearly spotless. I just don't see a reason to own a bunch of similarly spec'd guitars. Just pick whatever fits you.

    How's the neck compared to a Suhr modern shape wise? Do you cramp on chording with this? I've come to dislike Jackson/Ibanez necks for instance, so I want to make sure it's not too D-shaped.

    • @TheGuitarPit
      @TheGuitarPit  4 года назад +1

      I liked the neck, but it's pretty thin. Reminds me of a normal Kiesel neck. Certainly thicker than Ibanez, and less shoulders than the Jackson. It's thinner than a Suhr Modern elliptical, but also has less shoulders than the Suhr as well. The 060 is comfortable...but certainly on the thinner side. And yeah, I wouldn't want to be playing regular chords on this thing all day, personally.

    The resonance certainly adds to the tone in higher gain applications, you get a lot more attack in your picking, and you get a lot of sustain for solos.
    Of course that’s just from my experience, and i can’t really say anything because everybody has different experiences with certain guitars. What I am certain of is my desire to make an Aristides my dream guitar for my band, they look so cool and fluid feeling!

    I don't know about growing tired ... sure: the classic super strat theme may be a bit boring and the guitar that makes me a better player has yet to be invented ^^ I have an Etherial Guitar coming (hopefully the last guitar this year) and Matt has some cool ideas ... To some degree my Rick Toone S2 is also a variation of the super strat, but that thing is the greatest guitar I have ever touched ... so ... lots of things to get excited about :) What I don't get (or at least only to a very small degree) is how people get so excited about whether or not some reissue guitar is .5% closer to some 59 original ...

    • @TheGuitarPit
      @TheGuitarPit  5 лет назад

      You got the Rick Toone already? Figured shipping would take forever. Dying to hear what you think. Think you'll put together some photos or even a quick video? :P And wow, an Etherial too. I haven't seen those around much, but I remember the Rings of Saturn guy had one at some point. Totally crazy looking. And fair point on the reissue thing, but I think part of it is everyone wants to play the holy grail and no one has $250k to get a real one. A close reissue might scratch that itch for them. I honestly love my R9...I've never played a real 59 so I have no idea how it compares, but it plays as good as my modern stuff and personally, I like the way it sounds a little more.

    • @silvioschurig749
      @silvioschurig749 5 лет назад

      @@TheGuitarPit Your Review of the R9 did make me look at some Gibson Les Paul VOS / Custom Shop at a local dealer. They had a couple and I actually liked two of those, but I can't get sufficiently excited about someone trying to copy an old guitar (only guitar I got close to buying was a Fender Eric Johnson Strat they had on Sale). As long as it is done well, I don't eevn see that much of a difference whether it's Gibson making those copies or anybody else. And especially those things vintage fans hang their hat on like the shape of the burst, or whether a repair in the electronics was done with sufficiently aged copper wire, because copper wire back then sounded way different ... not my cup of tea ^^
      Short of compairing it to the real thing, what would be interesting to me would be a comparison of the R9 to a good Les Paul Copy like a Burny or similar.
      But I am more into somebody trying to take things a step further like Etherial or two like Rick Toone ... I am happy to pay a premium for that. I am just not looking for that "one tone"and if I were, I am pretty sure I would try to work out the part of the tone, that is made by the guitar, with Skervesen or Equilibrium or similar.
      I wouldn't mind doing a quick video review of the S2, but I don't really have any video equipment (at all ... not even a selfie stick or similar for my mobile ...). I have some vacation days coming up though, so lets see.

    • @silvioschurig749
      @silvioschurig749 5 лет назад

      And a very brief "review"" of the S2: Neck Aluminium - looks to be 1 piece - with stainles steel frets. Bolt On System with no upper fret access issues at all. Ash Body with an elaborate proprietary bridge / tuning system. Custom Dimarzios, Master Volume and 9 Position "Tone Pot" with a 5 way blade switch. Guitar is surprisingly heavy, but everything is extremely solid. Tuning system works great - kind of like most headless with tuners near the bridge, which makes tuning on most headless guitars a bit tedious. These Tuning knobs are staggered so they work great. The knobs are also protected from accidentally turning - everything very well thought out. The neck profile is a bit weird - it is kind of like a Strandberg on Steroids ... it is asymetric, thicker on the low string side (all the way, through, not like the "diagonal" Strandberg thing) and it makes a Wizzard Neck look like a baseball bat. It did take some getting used to, but it works great. Setup is incredible - it came set up extremely low straight from shipping - just over 1 mm at the 12th fret on the low string side and at the same time no buzz or anything. The only other Guitar I have with a setup out of the box this incredible is a Padalka. Worth mentioning: It was shipped from Virginia to Oregon via UPS surface, then Oregon to Switzerland via FedEx, and I unboxed it perfectly in tune after about 10 days shipping ... Tone: Both response and sustain are remarkable, sounds great with my Axe FX High Gain as well as Low / Mid Gain Pickup presets. I love everything about it.
      The only little negative: I haven't really figured out the Strap Buttons - one seems normal, but the output jack seems to double as the second Strap button. I don't know which system would safely attach to this. Probably not an issue since I doubt this baby will leave my house again ...

      Sorry, this one ended up in spam for some reason. Sounds stunning. Interesting to hear that the neck is metal, I didn't expect that. • @silvioschurig749
      @silvioschurig749 5 лет назад +1

      @@TheGuitarPit Some of the necks are made of wood but I guess the Dark Grey ones with the three point connector system are probably all Aluminum. It would be interesting to find out how much the profile can be cusomised, but the neck thickness definitely takes advantage of the fact that there is no truss rod.
