You guys got me reminiscing about my precious Filipino grandma. Mahalo! ps. made me giggle when you said something like in Filipino it's called Lumpia and in Chinese it's called spring roll. Was waiting to hear something like dim sum. You are adorable!
I love that you two collaborated and made it like a Filipino and Chinese fusion. I’m sure it was delicious. I love adding shrimp and watered chestnuts for more flavor and crunch.
I have that recipe called Summer rolls with shrimp, rice noodles, lettuce, basil and mint. I make a yummy peanut sauce with hoisin sauce. Healthier, no frying.
Thank You Lenora and Gigi for sharing your video and dedicating this to your Mom, Leona Dela Calzada, a very close relative to our family, she was such a great cook. When she arrived to Hawaii the.mist memorable dish she made was Lumpia Sariwa, or fresh lumpia with brown sauce. Gigi, I hope your mom taught you how to make this unique and delicious lumpia. Please share if you know how to make. Enjoy your videos, today I'm making your recipe for Sweet Sour Spareribs.
Every time I try to roll it it never comes out as good as yours after watching the video I'm going to try and do it later this week wish me luck! P. S. I will let you know how it turns out.
You should had browned the meat first before sautéing the vegetables. Then you will have a crispier vegies and not over cooked in the rolls once you fried them.
@@warroom17 when I first started out making lumpias years ago mines came out all different sizes also. Now I can make them the same size but I still haven't perfected in wrapping them super tight.
And I wrap it too tightly😭 focus and patience is highly underrated in cooking imo, I aspire to be able to bring lumpia to potluck without being self conscious 🙏 we will get there! I think when no one is grazing around the kitchen waiting for fresh fried lumpia to come out, I can relax🤣
I love your Wok with the flat bottom, it's much easier to use on an electric range!!! Got my same Wok at Wal*Mart for $5.00 a couple of years ago and the same Coleman camp stove... (Same Wok at Amazon $28.00) Aloha PS, Love to eat Lumpia's, Haven't made any yet...
The full recipe is on my website under side dishes. The sauce: 2 c sugar, 1/4 c water, 1/2 c vinegar, 2-4 T chili garlic sauce. Mix everything together in a small pot. Stir till it boils. Simmer 5-7 minutes till the sauce thickens.
❤🎉Mahalo Nui Loa! My Philipina friend is not here and I have to make all these lumpia by myself!! She is by far the best cook on earth! So scared to do this without her!!
Invest in a good one perhaps at the restaurant supply store where they sell commercial ones. I bought one from Cambodia, think its made of aluminum. Cheap and sturdy. Got one at Goodwill for $4 with a cover that works well. International Marketplace in Vegas has a good selection of carbon steel ones.
Why? Everybody has different ways of doing things. This is the way we make it in Hawaii and Filipinos all like this version. I always say there is no right or wrong. How do you make it? I never criticize anyone's food.
Hawaii is blessed with so many peoples from different countries and cultures. Yes, their “island” versions of certain foods may not be as “authentic” as those from their original countries, but there really is no right or wrong way as long as everyone is happy with the results and enjoy the foods. If only the whole world could be as inclusive as Hawaii with their foods and people! God Bless!
Thank you cacritic. Chinese call spring rolls very similar to lumpia. It is what it is. Even Filipinos have different versions. This recipe is from a native Filipino, do don't knock it. Just make your own and be happy.
@@HawaiisPickleLady Agreed. I grew up in one of the largest Filipino communities in the country. Over the course of about 50 years I have eaten thousands of lumpia made by many families & restaurants. They are a staple at every gathering including work potlucks. What I discovered many years ago is that every friend, co-worker, restaurant has their own recipe & technique of making lumpia. There are a few standard ingredients that most lumpia have but like recipes from other cultures every family, etc. has their own personal preferences, likes & dislikes hence the differences. Different meat, spices, sauces, some of this & some of that. None of this & none of that. Some use packets of seasoning, some use msg. Some use eggs to bind the ingredients and some don't. Some cook the ingredients first & some don't. Does every family have the same recipe for any dish? No, most people tweak their recipes. I even notice this from watching videos of people making lumpia in the Philippines. You go girl, make them the way your family & friends love them. For anybody that says they aren't authentic (even though they know nothing), my response is "Good, it leaves more for the rest of us". lol.
That’s my Aunty! And thank you for dedicating this to my grandma. She made some great lumpia and I miss her and her cooking.
Would you please give the brand name of the lumpia wrappers in your description
Check the video, it zooms in on pkg. On brand is Menlo but almost any brand is good.
In case you didn't get the name. The name is Spring House Tyj Spring Roll Pastry Wrappers. Popular brand of lumpia wrappers.
Our sister-in-law from the Philippines used a sauce that was a ketchup with a banana flavor . Great video. Thank you
Been enjoying watching you girls as a team. Gigi is a wonderful daughter in law, you are truly blessed Lenora.
Yes, I am so grateful to be here. Never thought this would all work for the best. Gigi is the best, so kind and thoughtful.
Thanks for sharing this, it was very delicious 😋 can't wait for more of your recipes 😋. Thank You 😊

Lumpia is actually Chinese food. Chinese brought it to Philippines.
My husband loves lumpia made in the past. Going to try this way. Thanks
ooh looks good. i might try to make this but my favorite version so far is the vietnamese egg roll.

Great video thanks for showing us how to make lumpia! r.i.p to grandma Leona ❤️
I just love to eat lumpia whenever theres a party with my family....you both are amazing😘😘😘
It was more like three cups of carrots
A link to the specific recipe on your website would be nice

I've been making my own lumpia for years and yet I can never wrap them perfectly like Gigi ☹
Just takes practice. You can do it.
Watching them wrap lumpia is so soothing, in the meantime I am trying to figure out why my lumpia are all different sizes🤣

You need to tie your long hair back so it doesn't fall in the food.
It’s good for a family gathering. Mahalo for sharing your vlog! Aloha 🌺
Hi I liked your video and it helped us make our own Lumpia.

Hi, Happy Easter! Haven't heard from you or seen you for so long. Hope you're doing well.
Thank you!!! Can’t wait to try this!
You didn't show the vinegar garlic and black pepper dipping sauce.

Excellent. I remember doing this as a kid. Fun times with my Mom
We all remember good times and that wasn't goal, to teach my grand kids and others to cook.
Sorry, my goal.
Mahalo Gigi and Lenora, brings back memories with my Hanai Filipino Ohana💖
Some may add baby shrimp
I basically use this recipe. I add string beans. No rice noodles.
So many variations, from different provinces, countries, grandmas, etc.
Amazing. 🎉
What size wrappers do you use?🤔☺️
The standard lumpia wrappers. Many choices in brands.
I just love your kitchen. It’s so cool. Two stoves
I Need a WOK. IS IT STEEL?
Love eating LUMPIA!
Here's a carbon steel wok: amzn.to/3tJHuir
Here's a non stick wok: amzn.to/3a3riRp
Thank you this recipe.
You're welcome 🙂.
Thanks you so much! 🥰 This looks almost exactly like what my mom would make, and I've been dying to learn to make it now that I'm not living at home.
Huh I have never cooked the ingredients first, mix let it marinade then roll. is my way unsafe?
Either way is okay.

Yum!!! Lumpia. Thank you for sharing.
Do you have a Peanut Butter roll recipe?
Don't know what that is. Please describe.
@@HawaiisPickleLady Rolls with a peanut butter sauce/topping on top.
Do you mean Vieu
Do you mean Vietnamese summer rolls with 🦐 shrimp and rice paper wrap? I make a 🥜 c
Peanut sauce for that. That recipe is in a video.
I wanna be with this family. I wanna learn how to cook
Stay tuned and you will learn a lot.
I like that😎🤙🏽🌺

😲 I definitely would be trying to make that. Was it special effects with the audio visual towards the end of presentation ⁉️

@@HawaiisPickleLady It was and they were perfect! They were completely devoured by people who had never heard of lumpia!
I grew up in the Philippines. No noodles in lumpia there.
There's no right or wrong in a recipe. I've seen a lot of rice noodles.
Love lumpia
Looks good
Thank you ladies!! What time is dinner?
lol.
beautiful!
😮😯😲☺😁😁
I was Very surprised that there was no ginger in this. I LOVE ginger and would add as much ginger as you did garlic to this mixture.
Like I said, the recipe is now yours. I always tweak recipes to my liking.
Ginger does not go into Filipino lumpia!
Mmmmmmmm yummy 😋 I want some....😁
You can now make some, easy.
Thank you for sharing I will try it.
Lumpia and egg rolls are not the same thing!! Lumpia has a thinner wrapper, while Chinese egg rolls are thicker. A world of difference
She said spring rolls. They have a thinner wrapper than egg rolls.
0:23 Leonora calls it SPRING rolls not egg rolls.
I hate those cheap Joyce Chen woks the black coating starts to flake off with a lot of use. Get a great wok not one of these.
