    It´s actually a very good looking steel. That bright blue handle with that polished steel looks great. I have the square shaped dickoron kombi steel and I absolutely love it. Few strokes on the sapphire cut and then on the polished side and the knife is sharp. If I qant to cut some tomatoes I just hone it on the sapphire cut side to give it a little micro serrations

      TheStromxxxx I have the same steel at my job! Do you sharpen on both sides with light pressure?

    • @TheStromxxxx
      @TheStromxxxx 6 лет назад

      yes I use light pressure. Like with all the non abrasive or light abrasive honing steels the result depends much on the initial sharpness of the knife

    Be carefulwith the ring it can stretch apart and come off the steel giving you no way to attach the steel to your belt and the tip of the steel can chip easily revealing the soft metal underneath

    do you have a shorter one of this kind, compatible for a 6inches boning knife for industrial use.

      I think it's also available in 10", which should be perfect.

    I need something when I am field dressing deer and elk and I just want to purchase one steel or the diamond sharpener. I usually use a 4 to 4.25 inch drop point blade. Usually A-2 or CPM 3V steel with Hardness: 58-60RC. Which would you recommend?

    • @cos2589
      @cos2589  6 лет назад

      For a short drop point, a diamond steel is the way to go. I'd suggest a fine grit one (the fdick one is a good example). Depending on your budget, you may also want to look at those belt-style electric sharpeners.
      Are you planning to carry it with you in the field when hunting? If you're only field dressing one deer or one elk out there, I'd suggest sharpening ahead of time to avoid the extra weight.

      Cos yes, I would have it in my backpack I wear while hunting. I'll take a look at those diamond ones. Thank you for the fast reply

      Will the diamond give me years of service? I want something to last many years.

    • @cos2589

      The diamond steel itself will last a really long time. Make sure to scrub it with a brush and soap once in a while so it doesn't clog.
      They are more agressive on the blade, and could also result in a recurve forming on the profile with extended use. Especially if you go with a coarser diamond steel, which is why i avoid them on kitchen knives.
      On the other hand, short drop point blades don't have a large flat section on the profile to worry about. And they are subject to a lot of abuse - mine get chipped and need re-profilling all the time. Something else will damage the edge before the diamond steel wear becomes a concern.

      Hi, I'm slaughterer. I'm sticking cows, steers, bulls etc. I just bought this polish steel but I don't think its work well on my job because I think I'm cutting quite rough stuff. I don't know if you will agree with me. So can you suggest the best steel for my job? I'm thinking about to buy g. Dick dickoron micro steel with ultra-fine cut. Is it OK? Tq in advance

    Just get the dickoron hygiene, it's best one round or oval stainless not carbon coated like most of the dickoron.

    I read a amazon review that said it was coarser on the other side.is this true?

    • @cos2589
      @cos2589  7 лет назад +1

      No, both sides are polished smooth on this steel. Perhaps the reviewer was intending to comment on a different item?
      Note, one side has the manufacturer's logo etched into it (near the handle, as you can see in the video). Make sure your blade edge doesn't touch the etching as you hone.

      It never hurts to ask :). Unfortunately there's not much I can do (since I don't work for the manufacturer or any distributors).
