  • In this video, I cover the importance of EDUCATING YOUR WRISTS and how the GRIP strongly influences the RELEASE. Hall of Fame golfers have DIFFERENT RELEASE PATTERNS-some with stronger grips release their speed with more LEAD WRIST EXTENSION, while others with neutral grips rely on more FOREARM ROTATION. The key to their success is that they MATCH UP their release pattern to their grips!
    I’ll show you how both SLICERS and HOOKERS can FIX THEIR ISSUES with a better understanding of HOW TO RELEASE, and a few simple DRILLS!
    Slicers need a dose of HOOK MEDICINE, and hookers need a dose of SLICE MEDICINE! The goal? To ZERO OUT the extremes and find a more SUSTAINABLE middle ground.
    Enjoy the video, and thank you for WATCHING, LIKING, COMMENTING, and SUBSCRIBING to my channel.

    I recently watched a video “ Tiger Woods Hates This Drill with Butch Harmon” Tiger explains he had to pause at the top of his backswing and then drop his arms. Andrew does a great job explaining the role of the arms and it has helped a lot.

    Thanks Andrew for still putting in tips for us in the other 15%... :-) Your comment on rate of closure resonates with the feel I had to develop to control my straight hook miss, which is keeping my wrists 'dead', which somehow calms my forearms down too. Since I struggle with exiting to the left in the follow through to play a fade (most difficult skill I have come across in golf, even with flared lead foot and all) I tend to open my face fractionally to the target at address too (picked that up from the stack & tilt book, best 11 EUR I spent on golf this year) which at least turns the hook miss into an more functional overdraw.
    Only way I know how to play a fade is to feel like I massively lift the club up instead of rotating back and deep, and then cut across it massively. But that feels like such a massive loss of connection of my arms to my torso that it's (mentally) uncontrollable. So it can produce a straight shot, a fade or slice, in equal amounts. No use. Unless you have a super tip for that problem, I recently just stopped that fade journey and decided I just stick with what comes naturally and what I feel I can tweak. I',m not sure, but amongst the swing components, it seems to me that one's natural swing path is the hardest one to make changes to?

      You can work with what you have! Sometimes it’s as simple as weakening the trail hand. Especially for the longer clubs. If you’re under the plane you can also align a little further left and keep the same backswing rather than ‘picking it up’.
      Also, playing the ball a little further forward can help the club naturally exit more left, rather than dragging the club and swiping across it!
      The last point is that there is a misconception out there with regard to slowing the rate of closer. You don’t have to drag or swipe across the ball. Rather release your lead wrist ‘actively’ into extension (lead wrist more up) as you pivot the club! It’s just a release pattern with less rotation is all. Simple stuff and more dynamic rather than hanging on for dear life which can cause pushes and shanks!
      Like all things, you gotta fool a round a little to find what works best for you but I hope those ideas help. Best, A. 🏌️‍♂️⛳️🙏🏻

      @@AndrewEmeryGolf Great feedback, thanks. Ball position is not something I focus really. I basically put every ball fractionally ahead of the middle with every iron or even wedge full shot I must admit. Only for wood, hybrid and driver obviously I move it forward. I've read somewhere that with irons one should sort of try to move half a ball forward with each longer iron? I thought that a to be bit strange so never really tried it. Maybe I should.
      When you say 'lead wrist more up' do you mean the combo effect of slowing down the hands at impact and 'crushing the bug' using ground force?

      Path is likely steep and club face is either square or slightly closed to the path. Keep your back to the target longer and allow your arms to drop and exit further right. Start with a PUSH! It’ll be a soft draw in no time. A. ⛳️🏌️‍♂️🙏🏻

    So in a strong grip, I know you want to see 2 1/2, or 3 knuckles on the left hand, but how should your right hand be placed? I feel mine may be to much on top of the shaft. I play a draw, but still don't have great compression.

    Andrew- My son who I’m trying to help, hits a draw with his irons, but fades his driver. Seems like the same swing. He used to draw his driver, but now he mostly hits a fade, or sometimes a slice… What do we need to do? I understand what you’re saying in this video, about a strong grip, and turning the lead hand down. But why is the driver produce a different result with seemingly the same swing? Thanks for the videos you do.
    Ron

    • @AndrewEmeryGolf
      @AndrewEmeryGolf  4 дня назад +1

      A simple explanation - the same swing does not produce the same swing ‘direction!’ With an iron he’s hitting down. For every degree you hit down the path shifts a degree inside out! 5 degrees down is 5 degrees inside out, there’s the draw!
      However, the opposite applies to hitting up on the ball with the Driver. For every degree you swing up the club exits a degree left! In other words his swing direction is unintentionally left with the Driver causing a fade or slice.
      Have him shift his alignment and swing direction further right with the Driver! NOT the irons. If he’s AOA is 2 UP then he’ll need to shift his swing direction 7 degrees right to have a 5 degree inside out path!
      That will have him hit the same shot as his irons!! It’s called Dynamic Plane!! Best of luck, A. ⛳️🏌️‍♂️🙏🏻

      @@AndrewEmeryGolf Thanks Andrew. And thanks again for all you do. Everything you put out makes a lot of sense to me. It works for me and all I share it with… Let me see if I understand what he needs to do. So he should swing out farther to the right with a Driver than he does with his irons? I’ve got his stance closed…..

    • @AndrewEmeryGolf
      @AndrewEmeryGolf  4 дня назад

      Correct! Align right for sure with the Driver to offset the (+) AOA. Also, make sure his ball position isn’t too far forward!!

    I've been working on the hand under release as I already take the club away with a shut face. It's been good. I'm still prone to the shanks at times which it really frustrating.

    • @AndrewEmeryGolf
      @AndrewEmeryGolf  4 дня назад +1

      Don’t drag the handle! You’re still ‘releasing your speed!’ You’re just slowing the rate of closure, that’s all.

    I have a strong grip and slice my driver and long irons and pull my short irons. Also with that release with right hand under won’t that add loft?

    • @AndrewEmeryGolf
      @AndrewEmeryGolf  4 дня назад

      The whole point of the lead wrist extension release pattern is to slow the rate of closure for closed face golfers!
      If you do have a very strong grip it’s highly unlikely that you’re slicing! I would understand a push or block but that’s not the same. Very hard to say without seeing your swing?! Best, Coach A. ⛳️🏌️‍♂️🙏🏻

    Another great video Andrew !
    With your videos I was able to lower my handicap from 13 to 7. Unfortunately a home accident left me off the fairways for a month and now I am totally disconnected. I went from never hitting to the right to hitting only push fades 😱. What order of drills do you recommend me to get my game back. 1 L to L, 2 one foot back, 3 to arms down? and 4 elease ?
