- This is definitely another “better late than never” edition of JRPGs I Played, but I played a lot of things, from new releases and things in my backlog, so I hope you all still find it interesting. Recently started running through the Trails series. Got the platinum for Cold Steel 1 and 2 and now working through Trails from Zero to be ready for Trails To Azure next month.
Don't sleep on the Trails in the Sky series if you have the ability to play. They are a bit more of a slow burn, but very fun!
@Penguinkingrc I'm not much of a PC gamer so I'm hoping they get remasters soon for Playstation like Zero/Azure. I'd love to experience them!

With such good games coming out, I don't know how I'm going to get through my already bad backlog...
oh wow we both had the same idea in regards to Fe. im playing the older ones as well. i found my copies of awakening and shadows of Valentia after doing some house cleaning. happy gaming tara and nice video as always.
Great selection of games and all for January. Been picking at my DS lately, although I know I for sure have to jump back into the 3DS Backlog soon. Have never played a Fire Emblem game before (at least that I can recall) but look forward to doing so at some point, have heard so much good about the series. FF7 Crisis Core is still a game I need to get to as well (man the backlog is real), have the PSP version and looking forward to playing it. Also need to check out the DQT and Disgaea demos. I just enjoy so much all the reviews and content you provide, even if it normally stuff I haven't had a chance to check out personally. Although that just means it stuff getting added to my to do list for playing and watching stuff. Superb work as always, hope you're doing well and have a great day. In January I knocked out a bunch of smaller PSN games, but also platinum'd God of War Ragnarok. This month I played through and completed the TMNT Cowabunga collection and still trudging along in Gems of War on PS4. For the remainer of the month I hope to make more progress in Sleeping Dogs, then move onto Spider-MAn Miles Morales.
I've been bouncing between Fire Emblem Engage and Tales of Symphonia the last few days. Looks like you've kept yourself busy as well!
So many fun new games coming out! I'm sad that I don't own a switch, but at the same time I'm glad, because my backlog can't take the hit.
In January I finished up Star Ocean The Divine Force, Kena Bridge of Spirits and 13 Sentinesl Aegis Rim. I also played some Trails in the Sky along the way. Then Forspoken came out and I got addicted to Graveyard Keeper. A couple of days ago Legend of Dragoon suddenly made a debut on the PSN store. It appears to be a buggy mess, but I bought it anyway. Poor Atelier Firis gets pushed further and further into the future. I swear I'll get to it at some point this year!
January was a big month for me! I not only finished Pokémon Scarlet right at the beginning of the month, but after leaving it 80% done for over four years, picked back up and finished Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu.
Not too long after that, I finished Castlevania Aria of Sorrow on GBA, which I had also been playing on-and-off for a few months!
I also started on Final Fantasy VI on my SNES Classic Mini console, which is part of my "Big Five" games I want to finish in 2023 (the other four being Breath of Fire III, Grandia, Xenogears and Legend of Legaia), all five of which were big influential games from my childhood that for one reason or another I never finished (mostly not owning them at the time).
As for February, it's mostly been FFVI, which I'm closing in on the end of, and I even did some side quests I've never completed before!

Welcome Back 😄, I've kept myself quite busy in January played: Blue Fire, Kao TK round 2, Lunistice, TinyKin, Star Ocean The Divine Force, Fire emblem Engage and finally Hi-fi Rush.
February plans were mainly HL and kirby but man late February is stacked
FE Engage is fantastic. I have around 80 hours into it. However, a frustrating thing is that even in Normal mode, it's possible to make an easy mistake because of the weapon triangle and have a unit wiped out. Consequently, battles take much more planning and thought. In contrast with FE3H, I could more freely choose units and complete a map in several minutes.
I'm definitely doing a Maddening run next, but I think I'll have to be extraordinarily careful. I hope I can understand the various systems and characters enough to be successful. Right now, I don't have a great understanding of how to most effectively mix a particular character with their optimal class and ring, apart from some obviously superior things like Canter or Speedtaker.
Bottom line is that Engage is a great game gameplay-wise. But it takes time and effort to "git gud."

If you played any fe game before three houses it is nothing complex, three houses is honestly one of the easiest games in the entire franchise

ENGAGE ENGAGE ENGAGE! I'm going to be taking a trip in May and I plan on taking my 3DS with me and dive into Echoes or I might replay Awakening. Also, with the exception of Genealogy, most people think FE games weren't super great before the GBA games (looking at you, Shadow Dragon games).
I think instead of Dragon Quest Treasures they should have made a new installment in the Dragon Warrior Monsters series. I loved those games way back on the Gambeboy Color.
I don't remember much what J/RPGs I've played in January, but I did started both Fantasy Life on 3DS and I Am Setsuna on PS4 this month.
With the mention of Void Terrarium 2, I kinda wanna go back into playing those niche NISA JRPGs that are NOT Disgaea (lol) like the first Void Terrarium and The Witch and the Hundred Knight while also digging into the other genre they delve into from time to time like The 25th Ward and Yomawari Lost in the Dark.
With the approaching end of the 3DS and WiiU eShop in late March, I'm trying to get as many JRPGs that I missed like the mainline and spinoff Pokémon games as well as FE Fates' Revelation route (aka the ONLY LEGIT way to get it that's still available and affordable lol)
My 3DS is my preferred portable system for my commutes and during lunch breaks, so a quick session here and serves as an alternative to my other hobby of mine: manga reading.
Glad you are back. I cannot remember what I was playing in January. I do remember I played all of Crisis Core FF and got all the mission done. What I have played in February was mostly what I played at the end of January. So, that includes One Piece Odyssey, Persona 4 Golden and Diofield Chronicle. I also played Forspoken which probably doesn't count as a JRPG despite its links to FFXV. Similarly, I played the fantastic Chained Echoes which is one of the best games I have played recently. My hard copy of Ryza 3 is already ordered.
Well done on the missions! I was surprised how hard some were :3 a lot of fun though :)

Well I just found my new favourite channel! Love RPGs so much and great to hear about a nice variety! Never tried a fire emblem game but have a few on ds/3ds and switch due to my husband really liking them! Definitely need to give them a try!
nice to see (hear), that you are still number one in Gaming Channels - when it comes to words per minute (no, seriously, measure it!)! helps, that you obviously don't feel the necessisty to breathe. who needs pauses, right? 😁
I still get a headache from time to time, but it slowly gets better 😉
I mean I breathe, I just cut them out for easier listening!
The speaking rate makes Shorts easier at least 😅 I hope it doesn’t give you a headache though! Haha :3
I've been trying to get a game for each letter(based on what they start with) up to 100% in 2023, so most of what I did in 2023 was cleanup. The first few games I played weren't for my alphabet challenge. according to my Backloggery Memory Card, I finished(as in, beat the main story) Hand of Fate 2 on January 2nd. finished the story in Slave Princess Sarah(which isn't something you can 100% since it doesn't have achievements). Beat the main story of Ryse: Son of Rome. After that is when my challenge started
I played the DLC of Glass Masquerade to get the last achievement for the game.
I finished Mark of the Ninja Remastered which I STARTED in 2022, but now I 100%ed it.
I tried to do Little Nightmares, but I later learned I screwed up on one of the achievements and there's actually DLC that I don't have that has achievements, so I didn't 100% that.
I 100%ed Hell Yeah! Wrath of the Dead Rabbit from a new save file.
I played Yakuza Kiwami 2 on LEGEND difficulty since that was the last achievement I needed to 100% it(and there's an equivalent to a "platinum" for getting all the other achievements)
I 100%ed Acting Lessons from a new save file.
I got 100% of the achievements in Beach Bounce.
Thats all thats on my backloggery. MAYBE there's some shit I played in between but I generally don't add progress on games that I didn't beat at least the main story of. With those and 7 and the ones from February so far, I have got 13 letters of the alphabet up to 100% achievements with A, B, C, D, G, H, K, L, M, R, W, Y and Z done.
I love the alphabet idea! Since video games have such unique titles, I’m sure you won’t have trouble finding one for each. Looking forward to hearing how you complete it :))
@@JRPGJungle I have 1455 games on Steam, but even then, some of the letters are in the single digits. I only owned 7 games that start with Z, two of which I had already 100%ed which was fortunate that Zeliria Sanctuary was easy. 12 start with Y, 10 start with X. 3(two of which are the same game, just one is the Director's Cut) start with Q. Meanwhile I probably have like 100-200 games that start with S. Star Wars, Shantae, Sakura(the series), Senran Kagura, Shadowrun, Sid Meier's games, Sonic being a few IPs that bloat up that number.
With releases starting to really pick up come late Feb/March onward, like you said, finding time to manage playing all these have been rather difficult, not a JRPG but in January to Feb i finished through all of The Witcher 3 + Expansions again, a phenomenal experience even after 2 initial playthroughs, and i'm currently planning to pick up Like a Dragon Ishin, Octopath Traveler 2 and Metroid Prime remaster!

@@JRPGJungle Thank you Tara lol, it's a gigantic RPG for sure but it's stellar writing, pacing, world, lore, characters and ability to invoke such genuine emotions, it captivated me, truly one of the best RPG experiences i've ever had to date and nothing comes close to finding an experience like that again!
January I spent playing Trails from Zero and Neptunia Sisters vs Sisters. With Azure and Ryza coming soon I don’t really want to commit to anything long term so playing the old Ys games (currently up to Felghana) and watching anime like Cold Steel, Nier, Blue Reflection and Granblue Fantasy.
january was also all about FE engage on my end while eyeing the switch release of persona 3 and 4 , I finished 3 in february (llast week) and I started 4 but i'm also just vibing playing breath of the wild for the 1st time and somehow blind outside of the funny clips on twitters sometimes ahead of tears of the kingdom, also i'm getting a new PC in 2 weeks so i'll finally be able to play the review copy of sophie 2 I got last year and Ryza 3 when that comes out!
I played Fire Emblem Engage and completed the intro. I went back to Dragon Ball Kakarot and finished the game along with the content on the first Season Pass.
This month will be hectic since I'm playing Hogwarts Legacy right now, I will play Like a Dragon Isshin, hopefully finish Sushi Strikers on the 3DS, and continue playing Theatrhythm.
I made a list of 15 games this month I wanted to complete before the years over and I got done star ocean 5 and 6. Now I'm doing somnium files 2 and House of Fata Morgana probably til early March, and then back to jrpgs with Ryza 2, wild arms 3, and rogue galaxy.
I was dabbling in all of the fire emblems up to 6, and now I'm just probably going to wait on engage til who knows when since I played so much leading up to it, lol.
My JAN JRPG : One Piece Odyssey , Fire Emblem Engage
I'm playing fire emblem fates right now (birthright first but will continue with conquest and the other eventually) and I'm obsessed!! I absolutely love it. I'm loving it almost as much as three houses. I feel like people don't discuss it enough (but I guess it's an older game now)

Wanted to throw an idea at you if you are interested. I’ve noticed that you never really go so far out of your way to say that you didn’t like JRPG. Instead opting to say that something happened during the gameplay that you didn’t care for or that you played 5 to 10 mins of it before you moved on to something else. It’s kind of tough to tell which ones you were disappointed about or didn’t overall care for. So I have an idea that can help all of us out here. Maybe create a video of top 5 or 10 JRPGs in 2022 that you didn’t care for and explain why. It would be a great video to tie up lose ends as to why a full review was never made and separate the ones out where there is no chance you are coming back to them to ones you really truly didn’t have time for. Just an idea. For example I was hoping for a review of Relayer that never came among others.
Older fire emblem are so slow. That's a shame.

Oh boy, I would definetly like to try Fire Emblem: Engage, but I just can´t with the main Characters design, it just takes me out of the game, I don't know what they were thinking.

Great question haha I’m not totally sure yet tbh. I feel like Three Houses had more I was willing to give it to and giving it to Claude was an easy decision, whereas for Engage I’d be happy to see the events for everyone but there’s no specific person that comes to mind. Perhaps Diamant because I liked his speeches? Or Alcryst because he’s shy? Or Rosado because he reminds me to wash my face? I’m not sure haha
