I really enjoyed it, l am 70yrs old, and still learning from the great pickers, and old dogs can learn new tricks, from you young wippersnappers, lol, man you are one of the greats because you were open to learning from those who are better, instead like so many pickers are intimidated, you are like Tommy Emmanuel ferocious,, and fearless,, thank you,, Sincerely William Wisham!!!
Thank you very much for sharing your huge musical knowledge Joe; Not alone you are a fantastic guitarist and musician but also your teaching is pure gold !
Ah thanks again, Joe. Always have played acoustic lead. Can't stress the punchiness of a thicker pick enough. Love how you use a thicker string on your trebles, really cool man.
TONE- Wow how enjoyable. You are an inspiration even to us older guys with short, slower fingers. I will use your tips and hope to see you live sometime when you come to Ohio,.
Tone! Thanks for the great lesson!! I loved, "and I'm an expert - in my opinion!" I am going to have to add that phrase to my vernacular immediately. It will be the first time that I have practiced one of your lessons and sound somewhat close to you (LOL!)
Tone !!! ...... Great to see you Joe. Sure miss getting together at Copper Mountain Guitar Town ..... Hopefully, next year !!! Thanks for the tips ...... =)
Tone!! I’ve been fingerpicking before I knew what it was called. It made it easy to learn the Banjo. Thank You Joe Robinson, for a nice introductory video on the nuances of fingerpicking lead acoustically. I’ve followed your career since you won AGT. You’ve got a gift from God that you are sharing with the world. Thanks again.
Tone! Hey Joe. Another great video. I’ve been working steady on my scales and trying to play them with my fingers ala Mark Knoffler. Hand strength is definitely improving since his style when playing three notes on a string almost exclusively is done with hammer ons or pull offs. I’ve also been working on my finger roll drills and incorporating it into Freight Train as you suggested in your beginner Udemy course. Just having so much fun. I can’t believe how much my playing has improved thanks so much. Cheers!
TONE! I'm finding a like the thicker plectrums these days, both acoustic and electric. One trick I've recently picked up is to use the rounded edge for a warmer strike across the string(s), and the more pointed end for better definition and clarity of note(s). Thank you for sharing your thoughts and insights 🙏
Tone! Thanks Joe , fantastic teaching! I love it! You sure know how to pick that guitar! I’m signed up for a couple of your finger picking courses…really great job, I’m learning a lot! Cheers Rod
Tone! Thanks for your great lessons Joe! You’ve been such a inspiration during the pandemic! Cheers from Brazil! If you come to Brazil someday, let’s jam! Hehhe
Thanks for this. Suggestion for a future Saturday video: I’d love a bit of a tutorial on using a looper pedal. I know you were part of an advertisement for one a few years ago. I’d like to know what you think it’s good for, AND what do you think it’s bad for, and any technical suggestions or musical suggestions you might have for using a looper pedal. I know that’s kind of broad but I trust you’ll figure it out :-).
Years ago I remember Eric Clapton making very similar comments. Get a good tone out of an acoustic guitar with your fingers first before you touch an electric guitar with a million effects pedals. You cannot get the tone and feel from an effects pedal. It is very impressive that a player of Joe's calibre takes time to share his guitar wisdom.
Tone! Need to incorporate your left hand legato work in to my current legato work. Make it kind of like a daily legato bootcamp. My hammer-ons are decent, my pull-offs not so much.
I have always been struggling with my high e string on my Maton TE 808. Maybe i give the thicker e string a try. 13 Years and a hundreds concerts later that might be a good idea :) Thanks man. Marc
LOL I have threeBlue Chip picks ! One in my main acoustic guitar case and one in my studio acoustic. I also have one in my purse for when Im out and about 2mm all three Strings? For Bluegrass 13 to 54 but it hurts!
I'va been looking quickly for some tutorial on how to sound with sympathetic strings but I don't find anything. Sometimes when I play, I have that feeling, but I don't know how to do it on purpose. Any tip ?
Tone! 😆 I’ve been using Jazz lll Dunlop Ultex picks (the clear yellow ones) for a good while I think they sound great! (I hardly play with the pointy end, rather I play with either rounded side end of them) have you tried these Joe? Also you’ve inspired me to finally grab that Blue Chip pick I’ve been wanting hahaha. Thank you for the great tips Joe! Much love ❤️❤️❤️🤘

Hi Joe, I'm still unclear what sympathetic playing is. Is this when you strum closer to the bridge as opposed to the soundhole?

Great video, Sir! I, too, am working on my tone! :)
I would love to play a Maton guitar that has been set you for finger picking style!! But can’t find one in my area!

Solved it for me! Always felt too snappy to me until I strung the B and E strings up with mediums. I haven't tried 14s though
Cheers Marc! It's worth trying, i really like a slightly heavier high E.

O pen string harmonics !
