Welcome to World of IWC. Today we're discussing the proper use, care and maintenance of the IWC Pilot's Watch Mark XVIII Reference 3270-01. This is an automatic winding timepiece that can nevertheless be wound from a stop by taking the crown out from its fully screwed in position to the first position. In this position the watch can be wound by turning the crown clockwise. The seconds hand will start to advance and at this point the watch can be worn. It will energize itself in the course of natural kinetic action on the wrist.
It's also important to note, that as an automatic winding timepiece, this Mark XVIII cannot be accidentally over wound so wind the watch, if you please, until the full forty-two hour power reserve is energized. Then allow the automatic winding system to take over. When setting the watch, it's important to note two special functions of the movement. The first is the hacking seconds function. By pulling the crown to extremity, a hacking lever stops the balance halting the advance of the seconds, allowing precise synchronization to a known accurate reference time.
In the second setting position, the watch also features a quick set date function, such that the date can be rapidly cycled to correct if the watch runs down or encounters an irregular length month. It's important to note, that because the date change mechanism is engaged automatically overnight for an extended period to jump the date disc, the watch should never have its date set manually between the hours of nine P.M. and three A.M. This is the period during which the date change is engaged and manually adjusting the date change during this period can damage the timepiece.
It's also important to note, as a matter of water resistance and physical security, always screw the crown down until it is flush with the case to insure that it's safe against abrasion and impact as well as compromise by water and moisture. The timepiece does feature a screwed in case back and a screwed in crown that endow it with six ATM or sixty meter water resistance. Now, IWC explicitly recommends six ATM for water sports or swimming so this watch is safe for submergence during the course of conventional waterborne activity. However, it's important to make several precautions anytime the watch is exposed to water.
First, be aware that leather straps, being a porous, natural material, are not water resistant or waterproof in any fashion. They have a tendency to absorb moisture and degrade in an accelerated fashion if exposed. It's important to put the watch on a bracelet or a textile strap, available from IWC, should you choose to use the watch in water. Furthermore, it's important to note that the functions of the watch, accessed through the crown, should never be used when the timepiece is submerged or wet as this will cause the bypassing of the seals and the introduction of water into the interior of the watch.
If condensation or any sign of water is ever seen within the dial of the watch, immediately take the watch to an authorized dealer of IWC or a factory boutique for remedial attention less cosmetic and mechanical damage set in. It's also important to note that the watch should always be cleaned after exposure to chlorine or saltwater. Finally, water resistance is not a static and permanent feature of the watch. It needs to be tested on an annual basis to ensure factory rated hermeticity is preserved. This can be done at any IWC authorized retailer or factory boutique.
Finally, it's important to note that the automatic caliber 30110 in this watch requires periodic service. This is only performed by the IWC boutiques and authorized dealers that have access to trained personnel, specialized equipment and original IWC factory parts to maintain the functional and monetary integrity of your watch. It's always important to service with an authorized service center approximately every two to five years, depending on the use of the watch, whether the watch is visibly keeping time and, of course, functional and cosmetic integrity can be serviced in tandem at any of these authorized outlets.
To learn more about maintaining this watch and using its functions, all factory manuals for recent IWC watches are available on the company's homepage IWC.com. For step by step instructions call into our website, Govbergwatches.com and a sales associate will walk you through every function, care and maintenance precautions of this IWC Mark XVIII.

@@AshishKumar567 Extending my studies and feeling like I deserved something more special I ended up with the 5002 Big Pilot! When shopping for the Mark the store insisted I try a Big pilot 5009 and it fit my 20,5 cm wrist great! For this reason, I HAD to have a Big pilot, and in my opinion, the 5002 is simply the best looking Big pilot and just such a classic!

Im in the market for a new watch myself at the moment, Yet I’m changing my mind weekly,
But whatever takes my fancy at any given moment, its more than likely that Tim has done an extensive
review on it. By far the best reviewer on RUclips, Sorry Ariel.

what an overpriced piece of junk, 3.5k for a low grade sellita movement and leather strap, 40mm case what a stupid size? only to accommodate cheap oversized movement. They call it IWC but there is nothing IWC

Wolf of Wall Street there is. The hands, the dial, the case back. Also it's not a Selita it's a modified 2824 top grade that keeps time plus 1 a day. You don't know shit.. also you can buy this pre owned from Goveberg for 2600-2700 ... you just don't know shit as I said

I agree - IWC price tag is a joke. Stowa offer a better looking watch for a 1/4 of the price. The face on this IWC is all wrong. Laco or Stowa gets you the best bang for buck and also do a better looking Flieger.

I also love the people that say “oh it’s ugly and blah makes a better looking watch”.... sure MAYBE FOR YOU... looks are subjective history and quality is NOT
