If you'll buy Fortis-Damasko-Sinn-Oris or even Breitling first, you will always be thinking about IWC. But if you'll buy IWC first, it will be your only one watch for a very long time and you'll save a lot of money. So think twice.

Beautiful looking watch. It's a classic look with nice clean aesthetics. I have black and champagne dial watches so a white dial is something I'm looking for as my next purchase. This one is definitely on my list.Very professional review by the way.

Can't wait to try on the new Mark XX... should be a decent choice finally. I never liked IWC until recently

50mm lug to lug is excessive ! I think many people who usually wear 40mm watches quite comfortably, including me, will find this watch barely acceptable ! If at all? Pitty !

very hard to choose between black and white. both so beautiful. I have mark 16, but I want those too...

Just bought the black dial. Think the black strap is to dressy. Changing it out ASAP.

The parts are not the same. Servicing somewhere else may not be the best idea. See Bruce Williams video....

purchased mine used and my first action was to send it back to IWC for a full service. IWC changes so much of the ETA movement that it would have scared me to send anywhere else.

Nice review, very informative! I find the watch a little too plain for my personal tastes, but it's very nice nonetheless.

Nice review , however a 20mm lug is a deal breaker for me. 22 mm looks less skinny and is more versatile

The game has moved on and Tudor and omega offer chronometer certified watches at this price and lower. It needs a better more accurate movement with a longer power reserve.

    • @qwertyman9560
      @qwertyman9560 6 месяцев назад

The movement is perfectly accurate, IWC regulates and adjusts these watches to Chronometer standards and beyond, just is not certified. Longer power reserve does not equate accurate, in fact quite the opposite. It has problems with isochronism.

So expensive, maybe an Oris Big Crown would be a better choice?

    • @markc3719

I have an Oris Artix GT Chronograph, and can vouch that it definitely gives you more bang for the buck. Same movement and the finishing is top notch. However, while i am certainly no man that wants the attention of a Rolex or a gaudy Breitling, it does occasionally stink not having a brand with a little more cachet. So I was personally thinking of stepping up to a JLC or IWC for this reason.

3 grand for a mediocre looking watch and an eta movement? You'll get more for less at other brands. Even if you want a history rich aviation piece, you are better off with stowa

BlueCrowN stowa's quality is getting worse and worse

      Learn....
WatchTime, reports that "IWCs changes to the base movement were such that you could almost describe it as a total revision... Nearly all critical components along the path from the escapement to the mainspring are removed from the movement and replaced with corresponding components from IWCs own manufacture." In 2003, the GST Aquatimers movement was redesignated as IWC calibre 30110, due to significant changes in finishing, including changing from gold plating to nickel plating as traditionally used in many of IWCs classic movements.
This page has a reply from IWC:
IWC buys at ETA no complete movements. The movements are only bought in its components, never assembled. In addition, only the best possible version is purchased - the so-called Chronometer version. Some components of the original ETA calibre's are immediately eliminated and are never used by IWC. They are replaced by usually more expensive and better ones.
The main parts IWC replaces are:
      A. the mainspring
      B. the barrel
      C. the escape wheel
      D. the pallet fork
      E. the complete balance including the balance spring
The entire escapement is a good example. It is ordered separately with different, more exact technical IWC specifications and is only fitted into the calibre at the end of the assembly.

Stowa is a better looking watch also with a more balanced looking face to this IWC. The price for this watch is a joke.

Spoken like someone who has never had these watches side by side. Quality of the case and dial aren't even in the same league.

@@FatSamEIE agree, Iwc mark series are lovely watches, people need to stop knocking them before they see them in person. I don't own an Iwc but I've seen them and they are up there with Rolex and Omega, the quality and feel of the watch is fantastic.
