I have the FX and am very impressed. In my opinion number of stars gives the image more depth. I haven’t had a problem with the image being to bright to fall asleep. The extra features on the Matataki are for me not necessarily, will just have headphones or stereo playing. However some people might prefer these features and the established selection of available discs of the Matataki. I was surprised how relaxing and helpful a star projector is for falling asleep.
Though the Homestar is more realistic in terms of being more like an urban night sky, I would like to know how the FX would perform similarly if you darken the output with a filter. These products would be great to have an option for brightness.
I think the Matataki looks more realistic to me, probably because I've only ever lived in big cities. The FX looks smeared to me. I like the shooting stars in the Matataki too.
So as I see: they are barely in the same league... ;-) Thanks for your reviews they helped me a lot! Finally I made my decision: I have just ordered the DS-FX. According to its capabilities it's clearly more than a bargain buy, the bundle is a kind of unmissable offer... :-) (I was really tempted by the DS-1 as well, but at the moment there is no way I can afford that... However a comparison video between the DS-FX and DS-1 would be very welcome. And can't wait for the coloured disks about the amazing nebulas for the FX as well. I would happily pre-order them even aware of the supposed long waiting time... Just to be among the first ones to have and give some trust and extra motivation for the hard but beautiful work.)
Can't the sega flux or Matataki use the ds discs? making it versatile since it can use the ds chrome and colored discs that are also larger in diameter than the ds-fx?
It's very subjective as it depends how sensitive to light you are,l. I'd say it'd be OK, but that's what the timer is for, enjoy the stars then have it auto shutoff.
Hi there - I am planning an 8th grade party that will be in the school gym. Do you think these will work in a large room like that? Thanks for your feedback!
Based on every high school movie I've seen I would think the room would have too much light for this to work well. These sorts of projectors really need it to be pitch black to be effective.

I am interested in the FX, is it possible to take the battery out? Because of moving - batteries are not allowed in the household goods.

THX I will buy both projectors
Would you say the FX is, however technically more accurate, "too bright" in way of having more stars, to fall asleep to? (Makes the room too bright)

I know you would ideally want to project onto a white ceiling, but would I be able to use these on a black ceiling?
You could try, however others have reported it isn't anywhere near as good.

Matataki
Or you could just go outside during a clear dark moonless nights and see real photons of stars....
What if u want to sleep inside in warmth and look at them or live in a city and dont want to move…

Most of us live in urban cities genius.
Then... go to a suburb location if you can
Yeah I get it, the light pollution is way off the charts.

Naah mate, too much light pollution. Plus, it's a nice gift for people who enjoy astronomy.
