- Hey Guys, the little Lion, the Peugeot 2008 is here in Malaysia, and like all curious journalists, we had to just take this 1.2 liter B-Segment SUV up our favorite mountain to see just how it fares.
Despite its little engine, the 2008 is quite a fun vehicle, and I must say it is quite pleasing to the eyes, bot on the outside and inside as well.
It the very well appointed, and has ADAS features including BSM, Lane Departure and Lane keep, Auto High Beam, and AEB, which includes pedestrian detection. A good package, at RM125,888 but only until 30 June 2022, after which SST will kick in.

That noisy modded Toyota bit was funny 😂hell lot of noise, overtaking a whole string of cars, really stepping on the throttle because the exhaust pitch keeps going up.. but the Peugeot 2008 is following right behind without any drama and without breaking a sweat!
Tested drive 2008 a week ago, steering is smaller compare to x50 but the handling are so good. Feel so compact also less noise, unlike the x50 has lot of noise from the A pillar side.
Experience is greater than horsepower and displacement. Loved how hw overtook the bmws and audis.

The traction control in the 2008 reactivates over 50km/h, pretty sure YS was at no point under that speed.

Got my Peugeot 2008 2021 Onyx blacj in may 2021. Never regret it, ofcourse there are cars with more HP, but you know for a fact you drive the best looking car!

Mr Khong, set your GoPro to allow more light into the camera then the video will be brighten. Same function as smart phone under pro mode.
On a bright day we get burn out.

Test drove both the X50 flagship and 2008. Felt that in terms of ride comfort and handling goes to 2008. Also somehow the 6 speed on the 2008 felt more responsive. What's your opinion uncle?

@@FiqVlog I'm 187cm, and got your typical dad bod. To put it simply, X50 has slightly more legroom, while the Peugeot got slightly more headroom.

i thought there was something wrong with the speedometer from 00:50 onwards...until I go 'ahhhhh'....and figured out what it was.......I also own prev generation 2008...and Pugs dashboard tend to place little emphasis on 'privacy'.... :D

Hello Ray, both are excellent choices: the CX3 with the 2.0 liter engine is more powerful, while the 1.5 is less. Both are about the same size.

Another fantastic drive with a very nice car. Uncle YS. Just to share a comment to brighten your comments section, long, long time ago, whenever I go out for dating girls, I always borrowed my brother's Peugeot because it was super comfortable, spacious, stable and easy to drive. Hahaha
Hahaha, so did you eventually marry the one? Good memories. I loved the 403, one of the first cars I drove. It was a 3 speed column shift and diesel. One of the best handling cars of that time. With Michelin tyres.

Even with the blurred speed... I can see the safety warning blinking on the 3D cluster. Nice. Also it doesn't beep like crazy. Nice. Sadly the panoramic roof is gone.
That was the traction control light, hahaha. Only found out how to turn it off later.

Hi. Initially plan for 3008, but the lack of Autonomous Emergency Braking is a deal breaker, especially for a car thats nearly rm160k. On other side, 2008 have all the features, but its quite compact and just felt like a car and not suv when driving. And for this price of 2008, i rather get the corolla cross. Still haven't made my mind though 😅😅

Hahaha, I know how you feel. Yes the 508 is a lovely car, but I think it will be a while. No news as yet, but that does not mean it won't come. After all the entire plant to service ASEAN is here in Malaysia.

On my old peugeot 308, the traction control enables itself above 50kmh and cant be disabled unless u go under that speed. Maybe this new 2008 has the same Traction Control setup as well
I found out later how to disable. Press and let go, and I slowed down. Slower cars tend to activate earlier, so I try to switch them off, unless it is raining.

Good video. Just a question and not sure if it’s a fair comparison but price notwithstanding, would you choose the 2008 or the VW Tiguan 1.4 Allspace?
The 2008 is a B segment suv, and is a 5 seater. The Tiguan is C segment and is 7 seater. Both drive well. Size would be the determining factor. So it depends if you need a 7 seater or not. The Tiguan has a more powerful engine, and perhaps the 2008 has a better power to weight ratio.

It means this is a lovely car that delivers more than promised, lol.
Only racing Otais like YS Khong can overtake a Porsche in a non-sport cars :) By the way, I love the Corolla KE70 too. Had it once until 1995, and I regret replacing it with a Proton Saga Megavalve. The latter may be newer but the KE70 was a superior ride.

It was an old model, and he was driving to keep the car in good condition, and so he was not going fast.

Hi Uncle Khong, between Peugeot 2008 and latest Mazda CX-3 which would you choose? Difficulty deciding
The Mazda is a well proven vehicle, and both are in the same size category. The CX3 is more agile, I would think.

The maintenance cost and reliability is a big concern from past histories. Furthermore the competencies of the service personnel despite the change of the distributors.
With the new distributor we are confident it will improve.
@@YSKhongDriving we hope for the best. Atleast the reliability for god sake despite the cost wise will never reduce. Selling price maybe be reasonable but the maintenance is exorbitant and reliability is much worse. Their staffs from service staff till customer service are just hopeless. Selling point is a Continental cars for a Japanese price and hardly live to the expectations due to the reliability issues. Warranty wise, they will find loop holes to make their customer’s life miserable till many doesn’t dare to touch Peugeot and VW.
They have lost their market share badly.
Hopefully the new distributor revamp the entire thing in order to gain new customers as the customers which are gone due to bad experiences will never come back.

About 9 lit/100 km, quite good.
Not that petrol consumption friendly...for 9ltr/100kms.

Should be a lot better, since there is a new distributor.
No Paddle Shift, No Brake Hold, No Power Back Door and No Electric Seat Adjuster. I think the price is too expensive since many features is downgrade.

Already enquired Peugeot HQ, if bring in full spec (GT), price close to 160k.
They're running a business, not a charity.

@@poemu6781 160 K for a Peugeot 2008 GT ? I prefer VW Tiguan Allspace 1.4 for the more or less the same money. It has bigger power, 4 cyl machine, dual clutch dsg transmission, 7 seat bigger cabin, etc. Benchmarking and comparison with others offering is a smart move, not seeking for a charity 🤭😊
@@jonatansterling397 exactly the reason why they didn't bring in the full specced 2008. They haven't yet garnered enough goodwill and prestige (locally) to be competing in that price range.
Using your logic, why would anyone buy a Tiguan when there's a Proton X70?
Also, the Tiguan (148hp/250nm) has slightly less power than 2008 GT (155hp/240nm)

Honda civic / triton is my choice for 125k
But two buyers already complained in showroom for Civic FE. One buyer complained about loose parts for rear air cond parts. Another buyer also complain about car body.
Some rattling on the center console too, i think honda quality has becoming lesser over the year.
