- After many requests from our viewers. we are happy to finally present this video of the Mazda CX-5 2.5L Turbo AWD on our favorite hill climb road.
Despite having SUV tyres that are meant more for comfort and long-life, the CX-5 performed in a very satisfactory manner. Lots of tyre-screeching, especially when traffic forced us to be off-line, but the CX-5 performed surprisingly well.
This is despite a transmission and engine that is tuned for durability and efficient fuel consumption. We will be doing a fuel consumption run as a follow-up, so please stay tuned.

Finally. Driven this beast once. The speed jump was significant that it throws me back into the seat but a bit floaty at corner. Quite a sleeper also. I look forward to own this

Nice 👍👍👍 got 2023 AWD 2.5T, it’s fun to ride (for what we get under the hood), and throttle is just on demand 😁. With a distance drove thru ECE / LPT for (3.5hrs), never feel tiring. Thanks for the video uncle, very informative 👍
Uncle really floors it, nearly every sharp corner you can hear the tyre squeaky sound.

I own the 2.2D AWD and the power is almost equal to the 2.5 AWD. Fuel consumption is on the high side, even for a diesel engine. You get slightly better consumption on highways but then with all that power, you wouldn't want to drive at the speed limit. The autonomous braking works like a gem and has saved me from backing into another vehicle in tight parking spots as well as stop-go traffic numerous times.
Hows the refinement between the 2 models?

I've got the chance to drive the CX5 not long ago (Although it was the base spec 2.0 non turbo and FWD). Still, the car handles so well, you kinda forget that you're in a SUV.

In Australia the 2.5 litre turbo CX-5 comes with paddle shifters. Good fun on the back roads for an SUV.
Car made the master cry out with pleasure, while the wheel squeal! I have a regular AWD 2020 CX-5 and it's hard to get the tire to squeal; great job!!!!!

Mr Khong, my hat off to you sir, great review on the performance aspect of this car, for me i was just curious about high speed stability and cornering ability and you have delivered the best video on these aspects, of course I won't be driving it that hard but it doesn't drive like regular Suvs and fits into a "performance suv" classification which is hard to find at this price point unless you have $$$ for European 🇪🇺 cars.

For those who have older models of CX-5, you can get sport mode by pedal to the metal x2 and it will go into sport mode.

6:02 should be brake the inner wheel, which send more torque to outer wheel, same as other torque vectoring that base on brake. This helps the car to rotate along its yaw axis.

we had one, CX-5 2.5t AWD since 2021, its awesome! very powerful SUV in its class… tested the X70 before purchase this CX-5, the X70 Just nowhere near this CX-5 2.5t

Mr. Khong great driving skills you have. How does this compared to the VW tiguan 2.0 4motion R-Line? Which is faster and better in handling?
When it comes to SUV, they are all heavy and will not handle as well as a car. Both these SUVs are very close to each other in power amd handling, so it comes down to preferences.
@@YSKhongDriving VW Tiguan R-Line seem to have lesser torque compared to CX-5 turbo but it has additional gear shift. Confuse and tough choice.
Any CX5 owner got complain from family members (eg: pregnant wife or elders) saying that the CX5 suspension is quite hard and bouncy ?
Is there any idea to help this situation ?
Then go buy a Mazda 6. A suv suspension is generally stiffer than a car, except for the A45 versus GLA45
Would you say this handles better than the forester?
I could hear the tires squealing while driving through the sharp corners which wasn’t the case with the forester!

This 2.5 turbo is a lot more powerful, so the CX5 was going a lot faster.

@13:41 the gearbox refused to comply with Uncle Khong’s command and even switched back to Drive despite 3 attempts at shifting down, almost like a kid throwing a tantrum lol! But I saw what you did there: Powering out of the corner in 2nd-gear helps with grip and trajectory ! So wonderfully watching the master at work… Lots of action and always its in the details where we can learn from.
@14:30 : Why did you thank the white-civic for cutting into your lane! Lol.. IDiot did not check his blind spot.. But I guess your experience helps you anticipate people’s driving behaviours.
@14:51 : That’s the GVC+ (helping to tuck the tail in to corner more sharply) : so was that why you self-corrected the steering by cantering it mid-corner for a split-second : because the car over-compensated the steering. In that case without it, wouldn’t the steering input by the driver be smoother without GVC+ ? I guess for safety and once you get used to this aid, it makes for a safer experience than without it..

Hi Mr. Khong, which one rides better and have more fun. This CX5 turbo or CX 30.
The CX30 is more engaging, as it is lighter and smaller. The CX5 has more space. Remembering of course that these are family vehicles. If you want more engaging drive, go for the Mazda3 or 6.
uncle, when compare this with the bmw x3 xdrive3.0, wihich one is better and nicer to drive? in terms of performance, comfort and maintenance?
The X3 is more luxurious and also costs more.

I have not tried any, but a guideline for tyres is always buy the most expensive one you can afford. For SUC usage, just make sure the load bearing capabilities are kept in mind.

2.5 turbo makes more power. Both have AWD options. One has CVT, the other has a 6AT. Take your pick.

After watching uncle driving this SUV up genting, I prefer to drive my sedan, sorry no SUV! Despite how good uncle said for cornering, the camera vibration tells the story.
