@@ProtectusCZshe said that in her interview for NME magazine, just search for Kylie Minogue NME...
Minogue, however, teased that the album after ‘Tension II’ will be a “fresh start” for her. It’s one that might see the singer move in the direction of her much-maligned 1997 record ‘Impossible Princess’, which saw a commercial resurgence earlier this decade when it was released on vinyl for the first time in 2022.
“I feel like it’ll be time for something - maybe not as singular as [‘Impossible Princess’] - but to bring some of that back in,” Minogue told NME, revealing that she “already had a few songwriting days in the studio with my closest [collaborators] for whatever’s to come”.

It's a very underrated album; I dare to say it's Kylie’s Ray of Light, though it was released in 1997. It was heavily criticized at the time, but now it's considered a cult album. With this album, I'd say Kylie leveled up in production, detail, image, and became a complete artist. This marked the beginning of iconic albums (Light Years, wow!). Steve Anderson was on production, and from this album on, he became one of her go-to producers.
Your comments are incredibleI hadn’t thought about the hidden message in Say Hey, one of my favorite songs. Thank you for this immersion into the world of Kylie; I hope you become a fan in the end.🎉

@@AlexeBriand2002according to your opinion, thanks. Ray of light was a far more commercial, electro sound than IP, and very restrained by Madonna’s standards to that time. It had some absolute standout tracks (some of my personal favourites of Madonna actually), mostly the ones with the music written and production by William Orbit, and his sound was the signature on that album, but the Leonard and Knowles tracks are a lot lazier and more phoned-in. It’s a big contrast. IP was the opposite for Kylie, it was an explorative rebuttal of her usual, very commercial style of music. The mass market in the UK HATED it, because while it was very diverse, well written and beautifully produced, it wasn’t what was expected of Kylie. Interestingly, it had a much better reception in her home country, for some reason.

If she continued in this direction we could've gotten few good follow up albums, but usually when you create something so unique it is impossible to replicate well and this being so different from her other discography makes it that much more special.

This is a super interesting album an period in her career. It was one of self discovery and experiment, aided by the likes of Nick Cave and Stephen Sednaoui, who encouraged Kylie to look beyond her previous work and push herself. There was a version of the album that was scrapped and re-tooled into what we eventually got and in the UK the album was delayed and renamed to Kylie Minogue after the death of Princess Diana. On release it had a critical hammering in the UK and radio stations derided and refused to play her music any longer and the album was seen as essentially ending her career. However in Australia, it was a much bigger hit and the Intimate And Live tour was a huge success that led to a critical re-appraisal which then eventually led to her decision to go back to pop.
The reception and underperformance whilst disappointing does not detract from the album. It is dark, experimental and full of self reflection and thought and proves Kylie is more than sparkles and glitter and I'm glad in the years since it has been rightly re-appraised as one of her best and most seminal works.

A record I think of as a twin album of hers, released around the same time, is Seal's "Human Beings". Very dark, spacey, beautiful and perfect from beginning to end. I recommend you listening to it - you'll find some jewels in there :)

If that song were released today in 2024, it would still be advanced to the time, the 90's, not even we are currently able to understand everything that is happening in that song, it is simply another plane, another structure. People always comment on how this album is close to Madonna's Ray of Light, but I actually think Impossible Princess is closer to U2's POP.

Impossible Princess is more abstract than Ray of Light. Also Becoming X by Sneaker Pimps almost like the same thing as impossible princess and that was in 96 I believe.

Man, if you want to hear really crazy production in a good way, you should listen to the albums of Moloko "Do You Like My Tight Sweater?" (1995) and "I Am Not a Doctor" (1998)! Аs a start ;) Thank you! Love and peace, guys!

By far her best and most authentic album. Just doing what she was into without a concern about pleasing demographics. I feel after the multiple albums of pop dance which was begged of her, she will go back to this eventually. She didnt leave PWL pop to just go back doing just pop in the end. She wrote off this sound too quickly because it wasnt commercially great for her which kinda showed a lack of adventure and refusal to sell out that madonna has when putting her stuff out.

You should react to the videos for Did it Again, Breathe and Where is the Feeling. The single release for Where is the Feeling is completely different from the album version! Vocals, music etc

Great album. Atmospheric and moody. Last time when Kylie's voice was effortless and organic.
'Light Years' is the start of new era where she is developing chipmunk sound so good luck man - you might find it annoying at certain songs as with years it got worst (which is a shame).
At least we have a proof (KM94 and Impossible Princess) that Kylie actually can sound beautiful if she wants - unfortunately since 2000 she is doing more of the things that people expect her to do so here it is - very often good songs with irritating vocals. I am still curious to see your reaction.

Sadly you are right. The metallic drill sound of her vocals is so irritating in some parts of Tension 1 and 2. Feels like everything is AI filtered but not for Kylie’s favour

I Always skip some kind of bliss and I don’t need anyone because they break the brooding mood. Fine songs though.

So hear what happens… When she released this album in 1997 she alienated a lot of fans… The album didn't sell well then. Its value was recognized 25 years later… Why? Because most of her fans limit her to being a pop disco artist. Like say either you sing pop or I won't support you or buy your albums. And that's unfair because it would have turned out differently as artist…I hope he releases another album like this one day. Although music has changed a lot since then. But this album could have been recorded today. Its sounds are timeless

So many of her fans care so much about her persona and image they won’t stop and listen and fully soak in the album. This album is a nightly ritual for me and it’s the only album by Kylie Minogue I still listen to.

Most of Kylie’s fans are so on the surface and superficial they don’t get it. Albeit, I doubt many of her fans are pessimistic enough to bother with this album.

The fans love it though. It was the casuals who don't like this album, fans are the only ones who have pushed the narrative of how this is actually a great album so more people discover it.
KMO and Let's Get to it are the albums fans usually don't like
