Through the years is one of my all-time Kylie favorite songs. Impossible princess is a masterpiece of 90's music and one of the best in Kylie's discography.
@@deathssnumberonefanshe did good on this album but Kylie loves dance music and this album clearly comes from a place of anxiety and loneliness so it's not something she would do for every album especially if she's happy in her personal life. If she continued in this direction we could've gotten few good follow up albums, but usually when you create something so unique it is impossible to replicate well and this being so different from her other discography makes it that much more special.
This is a super interesting album an period in her career. It was one of self discovery and experiment, aided by the likes of Nick Cave and Stephen Sednaoui, who encouraged Kylie to look beyond her previous work and push herself. There was a version of the album that was scrapped and re-tooled into what we eventually got and in the UK the album was delayed and renamed to Kylie Minogue after the death of Princess Diana. Still her best album for so so many reasons. The Lyrics, production and her vocals. It truly is an avant-garde pop masterpiece that was a culmination of all things amazing about the mid and late 90’s with her own special stamp. ‘Say Hey’ is still my all time favourite track.
Its so goddamn good. I literally listen to this album in solace like a ritual every single night. And this is pretty much the only Kylie Minogue album I ever liked yet it happened to be one of the best albums I ever listened to.

Easily my fave Kylie album. Cowboy Style in its entirety still exhilarates me to this day. Seeing you vibe to Through The Years was a highlight for me to watch. That's always been my fave deep cut Kylie track and seeing someone discover it for the first time is so fun to see. Let's also give her some props for Too Far and Say Hey, which she wrote entirely by herself. Wonderful stuff.
This is my favourite Kylie albums, and my two all time favourites Kylie songs are Limbo & Dreams. Commercially this album didn't fare as well as the pop music, and she would not bare her soul on a full record as much again, until the Golden album. However this was still an important part of her career. It gave her a chance to shed her skin, and be seen as an artist, which gave her a new foundation for her pop music to be taken more seriously. Loved this review. Thank you 💙
She should’ve shedded her skin and kept it that way and kept releasing music like this. Impossible Princess for the past year has been the single only Kylie album I still listen to because I dont really relate to anything else she released.
This is easily my favorite Kylie Minogue album because I’m such a pessimist and ponder existence all the time. I don’t really care that she’s this type of pop diva. This is real, genuine Kylie Minogue here on this album.
I think to give some context to this sound... it came a couple years after Alanis' Jagged Little Pill. It also came around the time of new age sounds becoming popular... Enigma, Delerium, Enya. Even though this album is not as electronic, you can feel those type of vibes.
What an album. I was overwhelmed listening to it for the first time. It is so intense. I don´t listen to it very often because of that BUT it is my favorite album by her.
This álbum has that mid 90s vibe, kind of alternative rock like Republica, Garbage, Sneaker Pimps, don't u think? Even Kylie's styling for the álbum cover is very much like the leading single of Sneaker Pimps ❤
I knew you would love this Taylor. I always appreciate your insights into the production. . With this album, I can't help but be aware of the use of live percussion. . Impossible Princess is a one off. Despite almost ending her career, this album and its subsequent tour won Kylie long overdue credibility in the Australian music industry. . Unlike the UK, Impossible Princess produced 4 top 40 singles and double platinum accreditation on the ARIA (Australian Records Industry Association) charts.
Great reaction. You totally get it. Most didn’t when it was first released. But it has been reappraised by many who have since conceded they didn’t get it first time round. And give a listen to ‘Dreams’ live from the Showgirl Tour as it is spine tinglingly brilliant.
Say Hey will be studied in 1 or 2 centuries as we study Beethoven or Bach today. If that song were released today in 2024, it would still be advanced to the time, the 90's, not even we are currently able to understand everything that is happening in that song, it is simply another plane, another structure. Sorry, but it's my main Kylie song. 15 years since I discovered that song and no one has yet created something like it. Great rection bro 😎🤘🏻
I love this album so much. The lyrics are more poetic, the vocals are more expressive, the production is more adventurous. And I feel like her 2000's albums are good because she took that artistry to the pop music she was more used to and people wanted from her and that's what made it great.
My favourite Kylie album by far, even though I have been a fan from day 1. I still remember the small live gig for this release.🎉 An Outstanding piece of work that really didn’t get the appreciation it deserved.
Dreams is my favourite song too. Impossible Princess really does stand out in her discography but sadly it hasn’t been done since due to it being her least commercial album. The next album where she co wrote every track wasn’t for another 20 years with her “Golden” album which is my favourite.
This is such an amazing album and, as others have said criminally underrated. Sadly it was savaged by critics at the time, particularly in Britain which she considered home, for being "pretentious" and I believe she never or rarely ever performs songs from it to this day. I can't wait for you to get to the next one, Light Years, which you will find is yet another departure (as well as sort of return to her roots)!
She's been mentioning Impossible Princess in interviews for the Tension II and Tension Tour era that I am partially expecting at least one song from the album to show up on the tour, if not a small IP-medley of snippets.
Love your review , thanks for saying what all us Kylie fans are always trying point out , since dreams is your fav excellent choice :) check out the fever 2002 performance of I should be so lucky which mashes up the two songs , and also the show girl home coming tour version of dreams both excellent performances of it with slightly different production xxx
Impossible Princess is more abstract than Ray of Light. Also Becoming X by Sneaker Pimps almost like the same thing as impossible princess and that was in 96 I believe.
Man, if you want to hear really crazy production in a good way, you should listen to the albums of Moloko "Do You Like My Tight Sweater?" (1995) and "I Am Not a Doctor" (1998)! Аs a start ;) Thank you! Love and peace, guys!
By far her best and most authentic album. Just doing what she was into without a concern about pleasing demographics. I feel after the multiple albums of pop dance which was begged of her, she will go back to this eventually. She didnt leave PWL pop to just go back doing just pop in the end. She wrote off this sound too quickly because it wasnt commercially great for her which kinda showed a lack of adventure and refusal to sell out that madonna has when putting her stuff out.
You should react to the videos for Did it Again, Breathe and Where is the Feeling. The single release for Where is the Feeling is completely different from the album version! Vocals, music etc
Great album. Atmospheric and moody. Last time when Kylie's voice was effortless and organic. 'Light Years' is the start of new era where she is developing chipmunk sound so good luck man - you might find it annoying at certain songs as with years it got worst (which is a shame). At least we have a proof (KM94 and Impossible Princess) that Kylie actually can sound beautiful if she wants - unfortunately since 2000 she is doing more of the things that people expect her to do so here it is - very often good songs with irritating vocals. I am still curious to see your reaction.
Sadly you are right. The metallic drill sound of her vocals is so irritating in some parts of Tension 1 and 2. Feels like everything is AI filtered but not for Kylie’s favour
So hear what happens… When she released this album in 1997 she alienated a lot of fans… The album didn't sell well then. Its value was recognized 25 years later… Why? Because most of her fans limit her to being a pop disco artist. Like say either you sing pop or I won't support you or buy your albums. And that's unfair because it would have turned out differently as artist…I hope he releases another album like this one day. Although music has changed a lot since then. But this album could have been recorded today. Its sounds are timeless
So many of her fans care so much about her persona and image they won’t stop and listen and fully soak in the album. This album is a nightly ritual for me and it’s the only album by Kylie Minogue I still listen to.
i am wondering why you havent underlined the high similiarities to ray of light?! never heard a track of this album but it directly reminds me off ray of light era...
Most of Kylie’s fans are so on the surface and superficial they don’t get it. Albeit, I doubt many of her fans are pessimistic enough to bother with this album.
The fans love it though. It was the casuals who don't like this album, fans are the only ones who have pushed the narrative of how this is actually a great album so more people discover it. KMO and Let's Get to it are the albums fans usually don't like

Impossible Princess is more abstract than Ray of Light. Also Becoming X by Sneaker Pimps almost like the same thing as impossible princess and that was in 96 I believe.
Her most cohesive and best album by far.
Iconic ❤
Love this album ❤
❤❤❤ this reaction
I would love so so soooo much if you do a bjork’s discography reaction!! Thats a MUST listen experience. You wont regret it
Man, if you want to hear really crazy production in a good way, you should listen to the albums of Moloko "Do You Like My Tight Sweater?" (1995) and "I Am Not a Doctor" (1998)! Аs a start ;) Thank you! Love and peace, guys!
Yes we're getting serious now
By far her best and most authentic album.
Such a good album
finally light years next!!!
Jump is the best song on there and it got no comment at all?! 😂
One of my most favorite albums. I do skip cowboy style, I don’t need anyone, and sometimes limbo
I Always skip some kind of bliss and I don’t need anyone because they break the brooding mood. Fine songs though.
There are only a few of us who care about Kylie as an artist and don't just see her as a means of entertainment
Please react Preachers Daughter by Ethel Cain it's just a great album with a great story.
i am wondering why you havent underlined the high similiarities to ray of light?! never heard a track of this album but it directly reminds me off ray of light era...
The only thing I dislike about this album it's how the "fans" don't like it 😂
Most of Kylie’s fans are so on the surface and superficial they don’t get it. Albeit, I doubt many of her fans are pessimistic enough to bother with this album.
The fans love it though. It was the casuals who don't like this album, fans are the only ones who have pushed the narrative of how this is actually a great album so more people discover it.
KMO and Let's Get to it are the albums fans usually don't like
This album started my Kylie journey. Will be forever my favourite album
The slow speed of Breathe is the only thing I’d change about this album. The sped up single mix is so much better.
A totally misunderstood album. Kylies finest.
Please react to Tinashe quantum baby
97 album not 94
