Also I'm really surprised the autorun concept was older than I first thought - was it this that inspired rayman jungle run and the following titles? Not sure we'll know, but it's still really intriguing...
The Murfy levels in Rayman Legends especially seem really similar, at least their original Wii U implementation. Things like cutting ropes to drop platforms, or not doing so to have Rayman take alternate routes definitely seem inspired by the RRR DS guardian mechanics.
I need this so much, this concept is extremely interesting, surely more than what we got. I wonder if someone will try to rebuild or make something out of this concept, it would be cool to play a "complete" version of this prototype.
First of all, I want to say it's incredible that you're still well active in the community and discovering new things! Secondly, more unknown Rayman 4 content surfaces! Those guardians of the parallel world seem to be equivalents to the Glade's own Guardians, at least the elements match! Thanks for showing us all of this information, it was an interesting ride!
Man just watching this felt like something out of my dreams. I've always wished Rayman had a new entry in the style of the 2nd game, and this story about the elemental guardians and the world where everything is the opposite is just so fascinating to see! I love the designs of the Guardians a lot, and it's a bit odd to see how the game ends up slowly being morphed into the Rabbids with that ending, although I absolutely did not see that twist ending coming. Also, wasn't the Rayman Mech in one of the concept arts for Phoenix Interactive's Rayman 4?
Yes! The RayGear definitely resembles the Phoenix R4 submarine a bit. It doesn't use the same design (rather takes more from R3's combat fatigues) but maybe it was an inspiration: raymanpc.com/wiki/script-en/images/d/dd/Rayman_Sub.jpg As for the story being slowly morphed into Rabbids, that is exactly what happened before they had so many Rabbids elements and so little left of the original story that it didn't make sense anymore and dropped it completely.
Here’s a funny tidbit in case no one else mentioned it, Vanfrey and Hodmer are play-on-words of the French expressions “vent frais” and “eau de mer”, respectively meaning “fresh wind” and “seawater”.
What the heck? these Rabbids are WAY cooler than the ones we have now. I can only wonder how the finished game could have looked had the devs not have changed the direction.
With the whole opposite worlds plot, maybe it could open up opportunities to explore what previous villains in the series would look like as good guys! It might be interesting to see the dynamic duo up against their opposite counterparts (maybe with the aid of the not-so bad guys like Razorbeard or André from the reversed world? Idk, just throwing out ideas) which could lead to backstories or development for the characters involved.
