- Before Rayman Origins, I didn't exactly play a whole lot of Rayman games. In fact, I really only played them over at my friend's house once and a while when we hung out. Fast forward years later, though, in 2011 when Rayman Origins was released. Those beautiful graphics and amazing gameplay couldn't keep anyone away! But even though this game is indeed incredible, did you know it was going to be even better? After all, it was going to have a very deep plot that spanned back to the original Rayman.

You pronounced "Lums" correctly! It really is pronounced (Luh-ms)! The characters themselves pronounce it that way in the previous Rayman games!

They didn't make Rayman 2 to cash in, no they made an entirely different new game with a whole new story and character randomly to get comfortable with it before pushing their big mascot into a 3d game. Where is that care today?! They don't test risks or make new games at all

These things are completely unrelated in this context.
This engine allows 60fps because the animations aren't spritesheets, they are actually moving and rotating parts.

I remember just being pissed when I found out about all the cut content. I mean, it's obvious when you look at the stuff still in the game that the plot actually is there...SOMEWHAT, but it's not explained or even mentioned at all. It's something you have to hack the game to even really know about. It was bad enough waiting through all those trailers only for NONE of the actual Origin stuff to be a part of the game, but then that final-story stuff was found and it was just "What the bloody fuck?!". Why? Why the hell would they get rid of ALL of that?!

Yea, they did the same thing with Legends for some dumb reason.
I believe this part wasn't supposed to be the final level but the whole storyline of the game got removed for some odd reason.
It's not about the destination, it's about the journey. Have fun playing the game, challenging yourself and your friends instead of being concerned about the story. They wanted this to be inherently fun, and not forced fun. Even if this comment is as old as my cat, just had to put that out there.

If you play the game and you don't know what happens next, it creates suspense and emotions, making it better (at least for me) but if someone saw that clip before buying the game, they would be most likely very disappointed, because what's the point of doing something if you already know what will happen?
Same thing happened with Doom Eternal, where they released a trailer that showed part of the final boss’s intro cutscene at the end.

I'll be honest: Rayman Origins is a decent game in my book, but if the original story and most other cut content were in the final game, I would've liked the game even more.

Really is such a shame they cut all of that story. I remember being really stoked to see Mr. Dark return.
But despite that, anyone still reading this, if you haven't played Rayman Origins, DO IT! It's an absolute delight to play regardless.
A brilliant game which not many people seem to talk about, Rayman Legends is even better.
I would've never heard of this game if not for Nintendo Power, an amazing magazine that has since ceased production :( Thanks to the cover feature for this game, I got this masterpiece for Christmas and Legends two years later.

it's dissapointing that we lost such a ravelling story from origins! imo, if they had been able to keep the script and story intact the way it was, Rayman could have finally turned back not only to his original platformer roots, but it could have re-sparked the love of the stories that followed Rayman in both rayman 2 and rayman 3. how i wish they could have kept the story more intact. as it is, rayman origins is just a rebirth of the platformer, and a recreation of a once awesome character into a wacky, goofy, lazy hero.... kindof a bummer.

I was a bit let down when the trailer hinted to a backstory, but we got nothing of that in the final game. The gameplay and music is perfect, but it would be great to have some story as well. Even just adding them as readable files in the game would've been enough. But thanks for sharing this info, knew nothing about it, despite being really hyped up when this game was announced.
It's weird because the game IS good but it still feels like a hollow shell of what it could've been.

It's a shame all this got cut. I was pretty damn excited seeing that shadow of what I also assumed to be Mr.Dark in the background. I was disappointed getting up to the last guy and just seeing it was a regular Teensie that looked like him. Usually things get cut due to time restraints, but it looked all laid out and ready to go from here. My guess is that they felt the plot might have been a bit too dense for younger children, who I'd like to think would be the target audience of this game besides long time Rayman fans. Now don't get me wrong, Origins is a FANTASTIC game, but it could have been even better if they'd just stuck with what they had. Kind of like what happened to Rayman 4/Raving Rabbids...only that pissed me off so much more as a kid when I found out it was completely different than what Nintendo Power showed...

Why does everyone still keep blaming the Rabbids for "ruining the Rayman series?" You got what you wanted- The Rabbids no longer appear in the Rayman series and have been separated into their own series (Rayman Adventures doesn't count because those were just cameos), and Rayman returns with new games that are selling much better than the Rabbids series (as of 2014, the Rayman series sold $25 million units, while the Rabbids sold $14 million), and the newer Rabbid games didn't sell as well as the older ones.

Finally someone who realizes this! Just let us Rabbids fans be happy! (I am a fan of both franchises but I think that Rabbids are overhated just for being related to the Rayman brand rather than from being kind of annoying).
It's like how people said skylanders ruined spyro, but after the 3 game they stopped including spyro ( well they did have a mini, but that doesn't really count) and he was an npc in imaginators

I've noticed many people forgot about Rayman 2 and its villian, Razorbeard and the robot pirates.
Would be a good oportunity to bring him back, although they used to scare me as a kid so I doubt kids today would cope with it. Being most scary games are toned down from the 90's, if remade or still ongoing.
The Robo-Pirates did a swell job at being an encroaching force bringing ruin to Rayman's world. When the game starts out we are immediately greeted by dark skies in which floats a mechanical pirate ship. We are told then shown it's full of enslaved denizens of Rayman's world under the command of. Even with his short stature the characters and world are strongly affected by his commands. Rayman's world is largely under control and near the end of the game the slaves the pirates taken by pirates has grown massively. As much as Rayman may bother Razorbeard his army still marches and does a lot of damage. When Rayman gets too close, Razorbeard
finds the best machine to kill the boy with and faces him.
Compare all of that with, The Magician/Ales Mansay. What little of a plan he does have is repeatedly being countered without him having much of an impact on the world and has to create a new plan. In Origins The Magician just had a group of lackeys and some machines. Then when Rayman reaches him he runs off. No last stand Razorbeard's Grolgoth. In Legends he never faces Rayman himself and still doesn't present himself as a threat to the world.
My cousin only knows about Rayman Origins and legends until I got the Dreamcast and show them Rayman 2 him only being 14 and his sister 8 said they weren't ready for the darkness of rayman 2

I remember reading about the original idea for the game's plot in Game Informer, back before the game came out; it made me really excited for it (along with the fact that it was going to be a platformer)! The game still turned out great, but I was always disappointed that they scrapped most of the "Origins" from "Rayman Origins".

Wow. My favorite game have gotten so much story cuted. It's still amazing and I would never forget about it.
So much waisted potential this game COULD of had. Don't get me wrong, this game was cleverly crafted in some of the most finest in platforming mechanics of it's genre, but it could have been soooooooooooooooo much more. It probably doesn't help that Ubisoft is kind of digging a convuluted grave with some of their choices in recent years.
What Ubisoft needs to do (and what Michael Anvel (creator of Rayman)) need to do is make a third game and implimemt all these features, so much could be added, and so much can be improved, like how about adding a different character besides ANOTHER Teensie, like why not Li the Fairy, she's awesome

This story (not the in-game story) kind reminds me of the story of Epic Mickey 2, so much potential wasted, but both wound up being good games regardless
So essentially instead of expanding on the Rayman Universe, they simply rebooted him again and presented it in a way like this is the first time we've seen this character. Delightful :/

It's not like the Rayman games were completely consistent with their worlds, lore, and tone anyway.
They seemed to redo Rayman every game.
+Christopher Hubac Rayman has really only been quasi-rebooted about twice (Rayman 2, Origins). Rayman 2, 3, and Raving Rabbids are similiar enough to fit in the same world. Rayman 1 and Origins are the odd ones out and one can be chalked up as first installment weirdness while Origins was intentionally designed to be closer to early Rayman.
Could you do a beta of a Tales game or Xeno game? No one has ever done those before on the internet.
By Tales game I mean like Tales of Symphonia, Abyss, Zesteria, Phantasia etc.

I played the beta at Ubisoft Monptellier long time ago, I remember when you died you turned into a ghost. My dad is Frédéric Condolo btw. He told they got inspired of Kirby Epic Yarn as well. He programmed entirely the app and the algorythm to make 2D models come to life in 3D.
So if they changed the whole story for this game, they could do the same for Paper Mario: Color Splash??

Big Momma is in the final game, just as the very final boss as a reward for beating the marathon-like chest stages. You can also fight her in Rayman Legends, but without the Land of The Livid Dead stage surrounding her lava bath.
