    THIS!!!! This is the theory I had rattling around in my head. The Illusive Man as the Benefactor makes sense. And Reyes Vidal seems much more of a player in a much grander scheme than what they gave him in perceived screen time in Andromeda. And he is my favorite character in Andromeda as well even though he is master manipulator. They seemed to give him the most personality in the game for someone who seemed to be a minor character. I am hoping we see more of him in Mass Effect 4. Otherwise he was a wasted asset.

      I have a good feeling whoever we play in the next Mass Effect will undoubtedly come into contact with Reyes. Why he’s not a crew mate but Liam is I’ll never understand. Thanks for watching! 🤙🏼🔥

      However, it does not add up when you recall from Wilson's journal that the Illusive Man spent 4 billion credits funding Project Lazarus to bring Shepard back. Cerberus doesn't have infinite resources.

    It may be unrelated, but it’s something I haven’t seen anyone else bring up. Inside the Kett facility on Voeld, during the mission to rescue the Moshae, inside one of the side rooms is a data pad that is addressed to someone that is referred to as the ‘benefactor’.

    Cerberus doesn’t really match up with the benefactor. Mainly because the benefactor pushed for other species than humans to be included in the Initiative. Of course, TIM was never opposed to using other species to humanity’s benefit so it could be said that maybe he would have pushed for other species to go in the hopes that they’d become servants of humanity down the road. However, the benefactor seems more interested to SAVING the species from the Reapers, which TIM wouldn’t be concerned with really at all especially not enough to use a significant portion of Cerberus’ resources in order to ensure all species got on board such with Ark Keelah Si’Yah. Cora as a Cerberus sleeper agent also doesn’t make any sense if you read the books leading up to Andromeda. She’s just not the Cerberus type. Finally, the nail in the coffin is that Ryder can meet Cerberus agents on Kadara performing experiments and they don’t seem even slightly aware of any Cerberus involvement in the Initiative beyond their own bootleg operation.
    The SB is a better candidate but doesn’t fit well within the timeline, plus Alec Ryder had already communicated with the Broker before so if the Broker was the Benefactor, then why would Alec not have been able to tell? In all likelihood, the Benefactor was supposed to be an all new entity in the universe divorced from any of the Milky Way’s lore. Reyes as they hitman makes sense completely , though.

    • @EndymionTv

      Yeah that’s why it’s a theory it’s good to spark discussion regardless. I still think TiM is our benefactor, unless it’s just someone random we’ve never met before, that could be a thing too.
      Reyes makes too much sense to be the hit man, he fits the Bill perfectly

    I am more inclined to believe that the illusive man is the benefactor because if Liara as the shadow broker had been the benefactor she wouldn't have had Jien Garson murdered she would have no reason too also when playing as Ryder you learn that something spooked the benefactor in the milky way and so they upped the number of settlers being sent to Andromeda if Liara was the benefactor learning of the reapers wouldn't be as spooky or scary because she had been through the battle of the citadel with Shepard. However there is another that had just as much funds and just as much reason than the illusive man and might even have more reason to be spooked by the reapers and that is Aria Tlok from Omega she also would've had reason to have Jien Garson killed

    • @SeverusHunt

      1. The Benefactor began sponsoring the Initiative before the events of ME1. So it's not Liara;
      2. Before the release of Andromeda, the developers themselves said that Cerberus is not related to the Andromeda Initiative;
      3. This is not Aria. She is selfish. All she cares about is Omega and her. Well, she cares about her family.
      By the way. If Aria was a Benefactor, she would fly away

    I doubt it being Liara T‘Soni at least as the Shaddow Broker as the Initiative left the Milky Way right at the time as Shepard awakes after being dead. While Liara obviously had connections to Shadow Broker and Cerberus as she helped with Shepards resurrection, she didn’t have the resources of the Shadow Broker before we help her in liar of the Shadow Broker become the new Shadow Broker…
    In my opinion the illusive man or one of Ceberus financiers would not be unlikely…

    I love your theories. There is one thing that has been niggling at me - Leviathan. They can control the other species with their disco balls and are crazy powerful. I find it plausible they created their own network between the species and decided to "preserve" life believing it will be yet another cycle of absolute destruction. I doubt there is any altruism in their plan, but they are just too powerful and egotistical to fade away. IMO. My own crazy theory! 🤣

    Reyes has a good chance of being the hitman seeing as how he wasn't killed no matter what we choose, but according to a comic/nook on the Nexus Uprising that came out around the same time as the game released, there's a good hint to who the hitman is. It's not Reyes but Dr. Lexi of all people.

    Reyes Vidal as Jien Garson's murderer seems to be fairly obvious to me. However, TIM or the Shadow Broker have too much against them to be the Benefactor in my opinion. I am sure they knew about the Andromeda Initiative. However I feel that TIM might have tried to hijack or derail the Andromeda Initiative (possibly using Reyes Vidal and/or Cora Harper) and the Shadow broker faction under Liara might have helped the Initiative.
    I have to propose another possibility for the Benefactor: An Artificial Intelligence, maybe even the Reapers themselves. We see the destruction they cause, but essentially, what the Reapers try to do is to preserve organic life and conscience in a simulation, a bit like the Virtual aliens. Perhaps they even thought that Synthesis would end the cycle -fulfilling their purpose- and they might have indoctrinated or manipulated Alec Ryder to make him obsessively research the way of integrating organic and synthetic life symbiotically, finding a way for Synthesis that would be more attractive to organics than forcing it through the Crucible. Perhaps the Andromeda Initiative was a Reaper experiment, using a small, selected sample from the species of the current Cycle and SAMs as some sort of Reaper "seeds". They might have even negotiated with the Kett to get samples, as Ryder can discover some intriguing conversations between the Kett and the Benefactor ("I'll show you mine if you'll show me yours" or something like that).

      There is something else.
      Initially, the Initiative was largely human, but Benefactor insisted that representatives of alien races be added to the Initiative.

    Rhys is the benefactor and the hitman but he's more he is a cloned younger version of the illusive man and as for the illusive man back in milky way being indoctrinated that could be his way of trying to create a hybrid system with the reapers as one of the endings of mass effect 3 is exactly that it would also explain the ending of the man on the snowy planet talking to the child which could be Voeld. Let us not forget the naming traditions in mass effect a which Ryder is another convention that is quite unique the Shepard as he is called at the end of ME3 is a constant reminded of well not to get to biblical but Jesus is the Shepard of his lost sheep/lambs the milky way the Ryder is another nod to a religious icon known as the pathfinder a another nod to beings such as Noah and Abraham now in the entire series yes the reapers are what comes to wipe the slate clean however they employed the geth in which one of them is known as legion 2 more nods to biblical references the name conventions aside these are just titles not name as they are treated as such in the game which makes the adversary (use for continuation and continuity) is infact the man in the shadows or the illusive man evidence of this are his experiments in ME1 trying to create an artificial legion there's the word again using rachni as well as human and indoctrinated rachni humans and reaper indoctrinated humans i believe the reapers are the source of the "benefactors" resources considering they have had countless cycles to build and distribute influence and wealth as noted by javik stating that they were among us and we didn't even known till it was too late much like the cerberus soldiers and further cause of the concept of creating legions now for the andromedia link regardless of cause of the extinction of the Jaardan if the Jaardan are truely dead and not just hiding they could have given advancement not be a synthetic or natural life form but a hybrid race who have observed the milky way for eons and seen the reapers come and go and is why they create the angaraans in order to help end the cycle but an earlier iteration of the same experiments was the cause of the existent of the kett if you look at how the geth and kett are alike its quite scary they can not reproduce but instead manufacture them selves form other races like the borg(i know left field reference but follow along) and when they asked if they had a soul the Jaardan didn't answer like the Quarians but unlike the Quarians instead of shot first ask later approach they gave them a task to survive and if they were to survive and thrive they would have there answer Causing them to to be come highly and deeply spiritual and eventually coming to see themselves as the one true race and started to wipe out or even absorb there creators thus there reverence for Jaardan Tech and there religious fervor for themselves but seeing as they were not hybrids but a complete synthetic organic race could not interface properly with Jardaan tech and here comes a hybrid of a human the pathfinder a hybrid that echos nt one of but a very key inflection point of ME1-3 ending so why is Rhys the clone of illusive man well as we have seen in the citadel dlc for ME3 cloning isn't an issue the illusive man once said if there is a chance of advancement i will surely hunt it down so creating a clone of himself and placing him in the Andromeda initiative isn't so far fetched as you stated and as with miranda and fake shepard power bases work in pairs and Rhys new second would have been cora if she had become pathfinder but i believe Ryder SR knew of this selected hsi sun to save the system allowing the hybrid to be a ryder not a pawn of the illusive man aka rhys as indoctrination ahs been floating in ME for a while after ME2 while shepard was trying to save a colony but eventually killed a mass effect relay because of the reapers i believe SAM from MEA is one such flawed AI and the illusive man loves LOVES AI and look at EDI and his attempt to indoctrination plus up and until that point as seen in MEA and ME2 the milky way and andromeda only theorized quantum entanglement communications until Cerberus made it happen another link so that is my evidence and support for the fact that the illusive man rhys are clones of each other just one older one younger and how it is all linked thanks solely by the geth
