Riders on the storm
Riders on the storm
Into this house we're born
Into this world we're thrown
Like a dog without a bone
An actor out alone
Riders on the storm
There's a killer on the road
His brain is squirmin' like a toad
Take a long holiday
Let your children play
If ya give this man a ride
Sweet family will die
Killer on the road, yeah
Girl ya gotta love your man
Girl ya gotta love your man
Take him by the hand
Make him understand
The world on you depends
Our life will never end
Gotta love your man, yeah
Wow!
Riders on the storm
Riders on the storm
Into this house we're born
Into this world we're thrown
Like a dog without a bone
An actor out alone
Riders on the storm
Riders on the storm
Riders on the storm
Riders on the storm
Riders on the storm
Riders on the storm
"Riders On The Storm" was the last song recorded by the members of The Doors, according to Ray, as well as Jim´s last recorded song to be released (recorded December 1970 - January 1971 - released in June ´71).
According to Robby, it was inspired by the song "(Ghost) Riders in the Sky: A Cowboy Legend." The song is played in the E Dorian mode, and incorporates real sound effects of thunder and rain, along with Ray´s Fender Rhodes electric piano playing, which emulates the sound of rain. The song was recorded at the Doors Workshop in December 1970 with the assistance of Bruce Botnick, their longtime engineer, who was co-producing the recording sessions. Jim recorded his main vocals and then whispered the lyrics over them to create the echo effect. The single was released in 1971, shortly before Jim´s death, entering the Hot 100 on 3 July 1971, the day that Jim died.
The Doors' former producer, Paul Rothchild left prior to the sessions as he did not like the album, or the song, calling it "cocktail music". Their engineer Bruce Botnick was selected to produce the album instead.
The band's drummer John Densmore wrote a 1990 book called Riders on the Storm, detailing the story of his life and his time with the group.
Ray Manzarek and guitarist Roy Rogers covered this song as an instrumental duet on their 2008 album "Ballads Before the Rain".
In November 2009, the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame under the category Rock (track).
it was March, 1971 in San Francisco. it was night time, and I was looking at the street lights, listening to this song, while smoking panama Red. I graduated in June 1971, and Joined the marines! I lived 1950's, 1960's, 1970's, 1980's, 1990's, and feel lucky to be still strong and alive. what memories! hard to believe. what a different world in San Francisco back in the day.
@jack.... the kids these days have no idea...I'm with you about memories... man oh man did we have fun!!!!
@ Donna... we sure did have fun. All bad news these days, and when I drive through the city, most looking down at their phones, not paying attention or wanting interaction with people. we lived in the best and last great times in this country. the kids have no idea what they missed. take care!
In 1981 I quit my first job and drove my second car to California, met a girl, fell in love, the rest is history.
+Handy Capo You still in California? I was in California in 72 and boy was there lots of magical adventures. Got back to Ohio in 73 and some how got stuck in Washington and been here since.
still in California, Pacifica calif. was special back then. my sister lives in Ohio. I have all original stuff on Charles mansion.
Way back in the late 1970's i was an engineer on the UK offshore radio station Radio Caroline,it was magical when this was being played and there was a force 9 gale blowing outside, the ship would rock in more ways than one!
+Peter Piper i can imaging that feeling
+Peter Piper Used to listen to Radio Caroline a lot...wow.
You're a lucky man!
+Peter Piper Was living in Ipswich, Suffolk at the time only listened to Radio Caroline and Radio North Sea International...
+Peter Piper Pretty damn cool!
I will never forget seeing them live at Madison Square Gardens. Just out of the Army. 1968. Best concert I ever saw... and I went to Woodstock
That's sweet.
must have been nice to be home
Back in 70's.... was a good life, good music, simple life... Now we have hybrid society.. Golden Good Old Days!
Depends on the color of your skin.
The last song Jim ever sang. What a way to go... RIP Jim.
Legends never die
Based on the song Ghost Riders in the Sky maybe he is one.
My favourite doors track.
Shocking waste of life
@jrb designer alliance Whaaa..?? Are you on drugs? Gezz this RUclips...
Both my parents left the East and met each other on the West coast in 66. They heard things were "happening" out there. The music, the parties, the cars, the political atmosphere. Same for me in the 80's. We had to find the "party" or the "concert" or the roller staking rink or the fire in the woods where everyone was drinking. Long trips out the lake in the summer were amazing. Today, my children have instant social communication on demand. They have in-home entertainment. They have everything at their fingertips except the real tangible feeling of discovering people face to face. It's sad that today we know everything, but have experienced nothing.
+Bob Donovan well said!
I am from the younger generation (18) and I see your point but not every younger person is this way. Even with this vast amount of information at our fingertips there's nothing like actually getting out there on your own. I am from central Florida actually much like Mr Morrison and just recently moved out to Colorado on my own after exploring much of our country by car for weeks before. And you're absolutely correct actually being face to face with it is so much different. And things are happening. Anyways I don't know I'm ranting at you peace
Bernie has now lost to Hillary, which means now only Trump carries that torch.
Things tend to repeat themselves. It's all happening over and over again. The fire never dies, it just passes from torch to torch. It is up to all of us to spread that light and heat and ignite new torches, like the Olympic runners. The flame is the symbol of eternal, undying wisdom and the eternal soul which is immortal.
Why don´t you teach them, why don*t you show them?! Stop complaining! It is not their responsibility that they don´t no how.....
2020 and this masterpiece still goes hard! Jim Morrison lives for ever!!
😍
and 2021 and so forth!!!
Jim Morrison was also a member of the Hell's Angels
@@scoop8525👌
Nearly 2024 and I agree
Fun fact, the highway footage here is from a movie he made called “HWY: An American Pastoral” just in case your interested
Thx, I'll see if I can find it. Really enjoyed the inside shots. My '67 FB GT 350A was that green and looked much like this. Drove that everywhere, about 170,000 miles of pure fun. Sold it for more than I paid for it new. So glad to see folks still enjoy them. Mine was not a hanger queen, drove it hard and everywhere or anyplace, even camping off road. Those folding back seats and trunk door allowed taking naps in it for those extra long trips..... 👍
Ahhh the good ol day's
Did not know that. Was Morrison involved with the movie? You know he was a cinematography major at UCLA.
Looks like that last few inches of film were driving up to Cal Poly Pomona, where I went to engineering school, on I-10 going west from Pomona into LA. Coincidentally enough, I had a '67 Mustang (in '80 and '81) with a pony interior like the Shelby had.
@Legion 57 I used to work with Morrison's cousin and asked him if this story is true. He said as far as he knows it is, that the family knows that Morrison believed it. His life was too short.
Always interested
This video with this music makes me feel the freedom.
this will never die
so true.
we all need more of it, a whole lot more
Jim Live in this songs!... We can feel his spirit in his music!..
Darkzz Lord Isn't that the damn truth!
Ray Manzarek doesnt get enough credit but he was incredible on the keys. Just epic.
Virtual Road Trip He was the driving force i think... he prompted Jim to begin singing and really pushed the dynamics of the songs. Also took over singing for Jim on nights he imbibed too much. Jim was awesome! Ray was the man tho...i think he held everything together
Completely Agree...
Also when you watch any interviews or cameos. Ray is the one with full fire in his eyes. it seems like he had the most musical knowledge and was the composer while everyone else contributing was along for the ride:)
He said in interviews that he was influenced by Chopin and that classical training just shines through..
Virtual Road Trip True. I play the piano and people often thing piano is only for classical music but i think of it like this: if you remove the piano from a song it will be much different. Thats why i appreciate it
Incredibly nostalgic ride through hot Southern California with most cherished and loved music legend Jim Morrison. Xoxo

1971-2021 50 Years but not forgotten. RIP Jim.
1971-2021 what do you mean by that?
He lived for 50 years, kicking off his musical career by delivering this materpiece when he was a toddler.
Ray Manzarek totally carried this song off.....playing the bass line on his left hand and the melody on his right hand.....RIP Ray...
he was so underrated!
Jerry Scheff played guitar bass on LA Woman. Ray did not play keyboard bass on any of the songs on the last original four The Doors' album.
+Alex Riley All of them were underrated, Robby played with his fingers, he didn't use a pic, John was awesome on drums. These guys were so in touch with each other when Jim would go off in lala land or collapse on the floor the guys kept playing until they could get Jim going again. This is one of the most amazing and underrated groups of all time.
Cheryl Shannon yea i know i love the doors whats your favorite album
I couldn't agree more! I'm a fan mostly since the 90's!!
Morrison - a demi god, iconic legend forever, created his legacy all by the tender age of 27, then gone. Thanks for the memories, Jim.

There is probably a very interesting real story behind Jim.....his Dad was in the Military and was involved in the false flag event that started the Vietnam War.......I am pretty sure Jim knew things others did not....heard lots of stories of how Jim liked to do lots of drugs and I mean lots of drugs....Ray Mazerak told a story once when they were on tour in Amsterdam and they were walking the streets and people came up to Jim and gave him all kinds of drugs, he said Jim took it all right on the spot, he got so wasted he couldn't do the concert and Ray had to do all the singing.....
I Love This Song !! 🤩👍
This is just one of the best songs of all time. A classic in 100 years, a classic now and 50+ years ago

I was fortunate enough to be going to SF State when the Doors came to the Fillmore. Late 60s. What a show. The organ notes seem to float on the SF fog or the smoke from a lit joint as we approached the auditorium and the mic stand seemed to be all that kept Jim upright. Still a fabulous show. One that I remember well and I am now 77.
Did you see the band love or the charlatans?

watching the car and Jim's characteristics you realize from where the creator of John Wick built his character.
😂😂
..There’s a killer on the road...
jim morrison and the doors are the greatest, hands down! no one to this day can make music like they did..Classics
rleos72 Bob Dylan shits on both combined
B M Ⓜ️ Only thing Jim has over Bob is his voice, and that's debatable in the stand point of the type of song they sing. Dylan is a better Songwriter than anybody by far, he's the closest thing to a poet in the music industry and some people even think he's one of the best poet's period, so that's the advantage he has over anybody. But it's to each there own some people just think some songs sound better for example I hate how the Beatles sound but I know that people love them.
This world "classics" sounds a little bit heavy for someone who remember this song when it first came out.
Hideo Kojima the eagles shit on bob dylan
cole leg Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuah?! I know you're not serious. Actually I know you haven't listen to Bob Dylan ever or heard his skipping words of rhyme through his tambourine in time.
wow. is there any other musical artist that has the power to take you back in time more than the doors? im only 25 but any time i listen to the doors i feel like i know what it was like to grow up in the 60`s-70`s
joseph barovich Believe me, it was a special time!
ahmmm actually pink floyd does it a lot better, imo, i love the doors but i feel pink floyd has a more musical art to it, lyric wise they were phenomenal
joseph barovich you were probably there. brings up lost emotions from a past experience. I feel the same way
joseph barovich Yeah, this song takes me back to 60's mood too. Luckily, I'm child of late x generation, so I wouldn't ever change my 90's for 60's :D
joseph barovich The Rolling Stones
This guy was the standard of songwriting. Musicians today still can't measure up to him.
Jim was such a handsome man. Had I seen him on the street in passing- I would be looking over my shoulder for a second look- and that's the god's honest truth! A very talented and legendary musician and his music will live on.
the most fascinating version of this song i've ever seen --God bless and may man be grateful.
i have no idea why you hate me or wht i said or did. i listen to all types of ppl not all i agree with but tht is wht it's about to learn to grow. however i offended you i am sry but i am more sry for your hate and being such a coward as to post such things as you have posted yet not discuss it w/me.
***** who's the loser effing with you? Did he remove his post or did you for him?p
Tom Major i removed no post--this was a time back now. for some reason out of the blue i got called names and such troll nonsense. i was trying to find out who what and why is why i put the post without a direct response. i wanted to see if i would get another response and haven't. thanks.
