  • In this video I paint polymer clay first then bake it! It's a test in order to help me decide which direction my 3rd LIVE Streaming will go. Speaking of live streaming, that's coming later TODAY! So stay close by my wonderful Friends. ♥
My conclusion is this: Yes you can paint polymer clay before baking it! (at least Super Sculpey), if not all Brands.
Thanks for checking out this short little update video I hope you had fun!
    See you soon!

Depending on the techniques you use to paint, there may be some that would work better after baking. With dry brushing, you'd often use a fairly coarse brush, which may leave unwanted textures in unbaked clay, and if you intend to antique any part of it, the act of wiping the paint off, may remove textures that you'd like to keep.
A suggestion might be to partially pre-bake the current piece, for maybe 5-7 minutes. This would harden the surface enough that painting techniques won't damage the surface, while still allowing you to use TLS, add more details like the cartilage and tongue, as well as continue adding texture overall.
Another suggestion, if you don't want to partially bake it, try giving it 5 minutes or so, under a hot hair dryer, I often do this to parts of pieces I don't want to risk nicking, while I finish smaller details!
Lastly, schedule your livestream as soon as you know when you'd like to do it, if people know in advance they can plan, and set a reminder, so they don't miss it.
(I hope you don't think I'm trying to tell you what to do, I just really want you to get the best results, I won't be offended AT ALL, if you tell me to pound sand!)

lol pound sand? what does that even mean? xD No you're cool I like advice, I can't think of everything. I was thinking about borrowing a air storage tank and use that to run my airbrush... it'd be soft gentle air sounds then and I think doable. If I don't motivate myself enough to get this air tank, than I'l just have to show you legendary finesse while using fine nylons brushes hehe.. All kidding aside, I don't think I can run a hairdryer LIVE, I'm to self conscience about loud sounds for that. Heck I've always turned down the sounds of drills and things in my videos but cant do that here xD
It'll go ok tho... cause at worst we can improvise all together live, as far as scheduling I'll try to do at least 1 hour in advance if not better but there's currently a confusion to the bell notifications system (which I'll be pointing out in a video soon!) I just learned about it recently but it can be fixed by adding instructions as part of my intro, in all new videos. Google made it harder by adding a extra step, but I'll work just as hard to convince people that the added effort, is well worth it! Oh, and I'm pretty random. But one day I "hope" to have a weekly upload/stream schedule too.. I so need it

Very cool! I don't (and haven't) ever painted on my clay but this is good to know just in case. I probably never would paint on clay because I have learned it can be done well... and it can be done badly. I would probably do it badly. :P When you mentioned oil and water don't mix I started thinking again about superfluids and how weird they behave. I watched a video about that from SciShow the other day. - Heidi

Looks like the acrylic works great😊 I’ve seen people use pan pastels for painting raw clay as well, I’ve wanted to try that just never got around to doing it, I might try it😊 I like how it looks soft on the clay, hope that made since lol
I’ll download the stream after it’s done tonight or tomorrow night, depending on when you stream 😄

You just reminded me that I have pastels but when I went to check they are oil.. oooh well. Great idea tho, I might pick some up! Thanks for the continued support I wish you did't have to wait so long for downloading :/ but at least you can still watch! :D

I need to ask you a question if that's okay. I've been working on a project of upcycling an old wooden tray and I want to make some embellishments out of Liquid Fimo polymer clay which I'll pour into a mould and bake. And I'm wondering if I can paint over the embellishments once they're baked and cooled. Also, can I use Acrylic Paint for this? Thank you, and best wishes from Amanda Jones in Australia

Would you then recommend a glaze over the acrylic?

Baking acrylic paint is meant to make it more durable and longer lasting. Eliminates the need to use a sealer or clear coat on your project.

Just so u know, I didn't take off on you at the end, RUclips put me in timeout! Not sure of the exact rules but basically, if you talk too much in a livestream, they limit your comments to every 2 minutes or something!
BTW- the comments I deleted weren't anything awful, just not nice, first person apologized and stayed, second one was more of a jerk, they left! I usually give people a couple of chances by deleting comments instead of putting them in timeout, or blocking them, luckily we haven't seen any real nasties yet! Most everyone is super nice, g'night, friend!
