- After posting my poem, "It's Over, It's Over, We Cannot Resist" it got me thinking about a song I wrote back in August 1996. I was visiting a friend at his country home on a lake northwest of Montreal. While sitting on a bench looking down the lake I was overwhelmed by the beauty of nature. I wrote this song while sitting there.
We're rushing through life to get what we need
We're told by the God-screen our soul it will feed
It's thoroughly packaged for mass appeal
And if you don't have one then you ain't for real.
CHORUS:
Well, we're over produced and we're misunderstood
No time for the roses or a walk in the wood
Talk to a neighbour or see the night sky
Or ask the big question, "Why this, oh why?"
Attitude we're told is all that it takes
Kick ass, come first, don't make mistakes
The world is shrinking, not room for us all
And only the winners escape from the fall.
The capitalist system, it works for a while
It raises expectations, it creates it's own style
But now it is over, it will no longer do
Further exploitation is bad for me and you.

The 60s and 70s were a time when musicians dared to sing protest songs. Since then, they have become a rarity. We need more folks like this to try and open some eyes of the younger generation. Thanks for sharing. Cheers
Beautiful mate, adding it to my folk playlist for work, I've been playing this stuff over the loudspeaker of a night and people are loving it. Old fellas like you give young fellas like me faith- the important kind- faith in my fellow human beings.
Thanks for the feedback…
