Shabbat shalom, David. I hope and pray that you and your family are well. Thank you for another excellent, edifying and very clear teaching. Good to see you back on the screen. Once again, an exceptional use of very good biblical and scholarly resources. My own personal theological library has certainly increased in size and quality since I started watching your videos. I hope your studies are going well brother. Sabbath blessings. Am Y'Israel Chai. David (UK)

I'm a believer who believes in keeping God's moral laws including the weekly sabbath, and dietary law however I will have to fully disagree with you about the sacrificial law. Sacrificing animals are no longer necessary, and even when the Jewish people start doing it again we should not. There are many other laws that we don't have to keep today like circumcision, or what clothing you where whether it's cotton, or linen, or polyester. Jesus was that perfect, holy, spotless lamb who died once for all for the remission of our sins. Only his blood was able to truly redeem us, and draw us near to God by washing our sins away. Only through his blood are we forgiven of our sins, and saved. As for keeping God's commandments. We do so by walking in the Spirit, and truly being led of the Spirit. Not in our own strength, or understanding. We lean fully on Christ, and are led by him. Of course if you're led of the Spirit you will start turning away from sin, from the desires, and works of the flesh, and you'll do what is good. It's hard to explain, but if you're truly born again, and are led of the Spirit, doing what's good, loving, obeying God's commandments will start to come naturally, and it won't be burdensome to you in anyway. We keep his MORAL laws so there are extra laws there that do not pertain to us today. What is expected of us can be found all throughout the new testament. So if we want to know what parts of the old testament pertain to us, all we have to do is study the new, and find what's brought up in the new testament from the old testament. Just draw near to the Lord, focus on your relationship with him, study his word, and he will lead you to do what he wants you to.

The Leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees has infiltrated the Christian Church. Very sad.....Jesus didn't just die for human beings, Jesus also died for the animals. John 11:10 "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays his life down for the sheep."

I have been wrestling with antinomianism and pronomianism for a while. While I lean towards wanting to follow the whole law of God as a way to express my love for him, Solberg makes convincing points to me. I was hoping for some clarity from David's video but it was hard to follow in some places. I wish he would have expounded the Scriptures more in his own words rather than quoting lofty language in others' books.

The distinction between the Ten Commandments and the other laws of Moses lies in their origin, purpose, nature, inscription, significance in Christianilty, location in the sanctuary:
      1. Origin:
      - Ten Commandments: Also known as the Decalogue, these were given directly by God to Moses on Mount Sinai and were inscribed on two stone tablets by God himself. (Exodus 20:1-17; Deuteronomy 5:4-21,10:1-4).
      - Other Laws of Moses: These include the ceremonial, civil, and moral laws that God gave to the Israelites through Moses, detailed primarily in the books of Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.
      2. Purpose:
      - Ten Commandments: These are fundamental moral principles intended to guide the ethical and spiritual conduct of all people. They are seen as universal and timeless. (Matthew 5:17-48)
      - Other Laws of Moses: These laws include detailed regulations for worship (ceremonial laws), guidelines for social justice and community living (civil laws), and additional moral directives. They were specifically given to the nation of Israel to govern their religious, social, and political life.
      3. Nature:
      - Ten Commandments: These commandments are concise and comprehensive, addressing broad principles of morality and worship. (Exodus 20:1-17)
      - Other Laws of Moses: These laws are more detailed and specific, covering a wide range of topics from community hygiene to procedures for sacrifices and festivals.
      4. Inscription:
      - Ten Commandments: Written by the finger of God on stone tablets, symbolizing their universality, permanence and divine authority (Exodus 31:18; Deuteronomy 9:10).
      - Other Laws of Moses: Written by Moses in a book (the Torah), indicating their role in guiding the daily life and worship of the Israelites (Deuteronomy 31:9).
      5. Significance in Christianity:
      - Ten Commandments: Still relevant and applicable, forming a basis for Christian ethics. Written in the heart and mind in the new Covenant. (Matthew 5:17-48, James 2:8-10, Hebrews 8:10)
      - Other Laws of Moses: The ceremonial and civil laws were fulfilled by Jesus Christ and are no longer binding on Christians (Colossians 2:14-17; Hebrews 10:1-10).
      6. Location in the sanctuary:
-Ten Commandments: Placed inside the Ark of the Covenant (Deuteronomy10:2,5)
-Other Laws of Moses: Placed by the side of the Ark of the Covenant (Deuteronomy 31:24-26)
This distinction highlights the unique role of the Ten Commandments as a perpetual foundational moral code, while the other laws of Moses served to govern the specific covenant relationship between God and the nation of Israel.

I am looking for knowledge and understanding. Researching both sides of the issues. Leaning heavily to the WAY. You have been helpful. If we will be keeping ALL of the commandments, including the sin offerings what was the point of him being the ultimate sacrifice?

When I read the bible the first time, I came out with more questions than answers. But the second time - really asking God for direction - I understood things so differently. I would encourage you to stay away from "both sides". Just read the bible. You already caught a dangerous viewpoint - why continue the sacrifices if Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice?. Become well versed in the bible and seek Him alone, and in time you will be clear as to whether a teaching (like the Hebrew Roots movement) is counterfeit or not.

Enjoyed your message! (Joh 5:46-47 KJV) 46 For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me.
47 But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?
Unless I missed how Paul teached , he used Moses and the prophets to teach Messiah Yeshua and we should do the same.
(Act 28:23-24 KJV) 23 And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening.
24 And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not.

At 18:10, by putting your faith in Jesus and obeying His, truly divine, not-of-the-world, teaching and NOT obeying the man-made teachings of the "circumcision party" that is of-the-world (Jn 8:23, 30-32), you free yourself from yoke of slavery found in man-made doctrines and traditions and become someone who is IN the world but NOT of the world (Mt 15:1-9, Mk 7:1-13, Jn 15:19, 17:14-16, 17:17)!! What a wonderful feeling!
Here is a nice passage connecting being "not of the world" and being "born again" (Jn 3:3) or "begotten from above", "BORN OF GOD"
    1John 4:4-8
"4You, little children, are from God and have overcome them, because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world. 5They are OF THE WORLD. That is why they speak from the world’s perspective, and the world listens to them. 6WE ARE FROM GOD. Whoever KNOWS God listens to us; whoever is NOT FROM GOD does not listen to us. That is how we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of deception.
    Love Comes from God
7Beloved, let us love one another, because love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been **BORN OF GOD** and KNOWS God. 8Whoever does not love does not KNOW God, because God is love."

Hey David, stumbled upon your channel because I’m doing pseudepigriphal research and saw your video on Book of Jubilees. That is a great resource.
I tend to disagree with this video in a lot of respects, but I hope you can hear I’m doing this in a spirit of care rather than anger.
    (1) Here’s my first point: Christ came to fulfill the Torah (Law), the Nevi’im (Prophets) and the Ketuvim (Wisdom/Writings). This is part of why I’m not a premillenialist… I believe the OT prophets are fulfilled. Are there still prophecies to be fulfilled? Yes. But those are generally pretty specific to the coming eschaton when Christ comes in judgment.
Without touching much eschatology, because that could become a long discussion the same is in essence done with the Torah in my estimation.
We have Galatians 4 & 5 where a part of the the Torah (circumcision) is described as being of “no benefit” to Christ. In essence, to accept or not accept circumcision is inconsequential when one is cleansed in Christ. Partly because Genesis 17’s command to be circumcised was to look forward to the “seed” that would come through Abraham. To say you must be circumcised is to say Jesus is the Messiah, but we still need the seal that points ahead to the Promised Land (which was already given) and to the Promised Seed of Abraham (which has already come). It’s requiring a sign of an expectation that has already come. It doesn’t make sense to command the sign that’s already been fulfilled.
    (2) Luke/Acts: you mentioned at one point that you believe Gentiles should hold parts of the Torah, which include dietary restrictions. Acts 10 tells Peter, in essence, “go ahead and eat Peter, I have now made unclean animals, clean animals.” In short, this is God revealing to Peter, who ironically is confronted by Paul in Galatians 3 for similar behavior, that He has now cleansed unclean animals for consumption. How?
What once was consumed only by unclean Gentiles, is now made clean due to Gentiles now being made clean through Christ.
    (3) I hope you’ve made it this far and still are at least hearing me out. I actually become a little bothered with Reformed folk (which technically I am) who say, “well we obey the 10 commandments, nothing else. That’s the moral law.” It doesn’t make any sense given their systematic approach to Scripture.
Likewise, I think there are holes in the theology of this video. To be Pro-nomian is to miss the point of Paul. In fact, I’d say this type of theology is a poor understanding of what Paul finds in Christ and His ministry.
Galatians 5:16-26 explains what’s contrary to the new covenant law of Christ, which is not the covenant given at Mt. Sinai. Paul comes to this passage knowing Jews will says, “Paul, if we can’t rely on Mt. Sinai for righteousness, where can we find righteousness?” His response is simple and unbelievably amazing. The law is evident for Spirit indwelt believers: the prohibitions are disorderly sexual conduct, envy, strife, etc. in essence, the New Testament prohibitions are what the OT tried to reveal in the heart. The OT just stopped the outlash of a poor disposition in the heart. I want to sleep with my neighbors wife, well I can’t because I’ll be stoned. The NT says, God change my desire for a disorderly sexual relationship, lest I be judged by my Savior.
I surely am not antinomian, but pronomian is a misunderstanding too. I believe the Law is good for edification just like all of Scripture is, but the 613 commandments are not binding. For a believer struggling with this 2 Corinthians 3 is such a great passage for greater understanding. We really don’t need types and shadows of the archetypal Messiah. Yahweh came down as Yeshua so that we no longer would need the shadow, but have the physical reality, and on the day of Pentecost in Jersusalem would be given His Spirit in power to proclaim His name boldly.
Hope this finds you well. I hope at least you’ll consider some of what I have to say if you dedicate time to read this. If not, it was useful for me to dedicate some time to think through issues such as these for myself and my walk with Christ.

    • @DavidWilberBlog
      @DavidWilberBlog  11 месяцев назад

The author's whole argument in this section is that the Messiah's heavenly priesthood, like Melchizedek's priesthood, stands outside the Torah's requirements that priests be sons of Aaron (Heb 7:16). Thus, the specific "commandment" that is "set aside" in 7:18 is the commandment requiring that priests be physical sons of Aaron. In the case of Jesus, this law is set aside because Jesus serves in the heavenly realm where this commandment does not apply to him. The commandment that priests be sons of Aaron applies only to those priests who serve on earth (Heb. 8:4). Note that this command has not been "set aside" for earthly priests.
Also consider this from Moffitt ("Weak and Useless," 99-100): "when the author of Hebrews argues that the Law never made anything perfect, he is claiming that the Law was never able permanently to move God’s people from their present condition into the fullness of God’s presence. The Law, to put the point differently, never fully solved or dealt with the problem of death. In fact, the problem of death is in some sense hardwired into the very logic of the Law, particularly in the ritual purity codes and the genealogical stipulations regarding priestly service. This further means that the Law never purified people to the point that their subjection to mortality was no longer a problem that prevented them from entering the fullness of God’s presence. This, I suggest, is what the author means when he says that the Law’s regulations regarding genealogy and priesthood are 'weak and useless.' What the Law in its weakness could not do, however, the author of Hebrews argues the Son has accomplished by rising again and ascending into the heavens as the great high priest."

Exodus 31:14 “Therefore you are to keep the Sabbath, for it is holy to you. Everyone who profanes it must be put to death; for whoever does any work on it, that person shall be cut off from among his people. 15 For six days work may be done, but on the seventh day there is a Sabbath of complete rest [Exodus 20:8-11; Leviticus 23:1-3], holy to the Lord; whoever does any work on the Sabbath day must be put to death.“ (NASB)
Exodus 35:1 Then Moses assembled all the congregation of the sons of Israel, and said to them, “These are the things that the Lord has commanded you to do: 2 “For six days work may be done, but on the seventh day you shall have a holy day, a Sabbath of complete rest to the Lord [Exodus 20:8-11; Leviticus 23:1-3]; whoever does any work on it shall be put to death.“ (NASB)
Numbers 15:32 Now while the sons of Israel were in the wilderness [Heb. midbar], they found a man gathering wood on the Sabbath day [Exodus 20:8-11; Leviticus 23:1-3]. 33 And those who found him gathering wood brought him to Moses and Aaron, and to all the congregation; 34 and they placed him in custody, because it had not been decided what should be done to him. 35 Then the Lord said to Moses, “The man must be put to death [Exodus 31:14-15; Exodus 35:1-2; Deuteronomy 27:26; Matthew 5:18]; all the congregation shall stone him with stones outside the camp.” 36 So all the congregation [Heb. edah] brought him outside the camp and stoned him to death with stones, just as the Lord had commanded Moses. (NASB)
Hebrews 3:17 And with whom was He angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose dead bodies fell in the wilderness [Heb. midbar]? 18 And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest [Psalm 95:11], but to those who were disobedient? (NASB)
Deuteronomy 27:26 “ ‘Cursed is anyone who does not fulfill the words of this Law by doing them.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’ “ (NASB)
Matthew 5:18 “For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away [Revelation 21], not the smallest letter or stroke of a letter shall pass from the Law, until all is accomplished!“ (NASB)
It's the ministry of death (Exodus 31:14-15; Exodus 35:1-2; Numbers 15:32-36; Deuteronomy 27:26; Matthew 5:18), engraved in letters on stones (2 Corinthians 3).
The one who has ears, let him hear.

People forget the reason we have the 'Golden Rule is because they were trying to trick Jesus into saying the Laws weren't important and which ones they could skip and still make it into heaven..
But Jesus knew what they were doing and told them to follow the 'Golden Rule' - "Love thy neighbour as you Love GOD and Love thyself" and the rest will fall into place.

Yes. All those things. His Law is truth.
"Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, And Your law is truth."
    Psalms 119:142
For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ."
    John 1:17
"But now apart from the Law the righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe; for there is no distinction; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins PREVIOUSLY committed; for the demonstration, I say, of His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. Where then is boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? Of works? No, but BY A LAW OF FAITH. For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law. Or is God the God of Jews only? Is He not the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also, since indeed God who will justify the CIRCUMCISED BY FAITH and the UNCIRCUMCISED THROUGH FAITH is one.
Do we then nullify the Law through faith? May it never be! On the contrary, WE ESTABLISH THE LAW."
    Romans 3:21‭-‬31
"Was any man called when he was already circumcised? He is not to become uncircumcised. Has anyone been called in uncircumcision? He is not to be circumcised. Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but WHAT MATTERS IS THE KEEPING OF THE COMMANDMENTS OF GOD. Each man must remain in that condition in which he was called."
    1 Corinthians 7:18‭-‬20
"If anyone advocates a different doctrine and does not agree with sound words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, and with the doctrine conforming to godliness, he is conceited and understands nothing; but he has a morbid interest in controversial questions and disputes about words, out of which arise envy, strife, abusive language, evil suspicions, and constant friction between men of depraved mind and deprived of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. BUT GODLINESS ACTUALLY IS A MEANS OF GREAT GAIN WHEN ACCOMPANIED BY CONTENTMENT. For we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it either. If we have food and covering, with these we shall be content."
    1 Timothy 6:3‭-‬8
Thank You Lord our God who came in the flesh in the name of Jesus!

So how do you suppose your sins are atoned for currently? If an animal sacrifice is required to atone for your sins, your sins that lead to spiritual death are not atoned for regardless of whether a temple exists or not. The absence of a temple obviously cannot save you.
I think you needs to rethink that idea.

    • @DavidWilberBlog
      @DavidWilberBlog  7 месяцев назад

Nobody’s sins have ever been truly atoned for via animal sacrifice, just as nobody has ever been saved through getting baptized. These are symbols that point to the reality accomplished in Christ.

    • @genotriana3882
      @genotriana3882 7 месяцев назад

That is correct and made clear with the new covenant. Most symbolic celebrations in the OT were replaced in the new covenant. Jesus did not command anyone to practice sacrifice for sin, dietary laws, or strict sabbath practices for the new covenant.

@@genotriana3882 I disagree. As I demonstrated in the video, the earliest Christians continued to practice the ritual commands in the Torah. And they were not diminishing the value of the Messiah's work by doing so. Neither are modern Messianic Jews and Christians who observe things like the Sabbath and food laws today. I'd invite you to watch my many videos on the topic to learn why Christians are rejecting the antinomian and supersessionist assumptions of people like Solberg. Better yet, get my book, "Remember the Sabbath." Blessings!

The New Testament doctrine of justification is accompanied with Paul’s union with Christ theology and the doctrine of the Holy Spirit. How can you reconcile that with cleanliness requirements? Do I only have the HS in me when I am clean per the OT?

    • @DavidWilberBlog
      @DavidWilberBlog  7 месяцев назад

@@genotriana3882 There's nothing to reconcile because there is no conflict? The apostles had the Holy Spirit, and they observed the Torah's purity laws when they participated in Temple rites (e.g., Acts 21:26). They also had the Holy Spirit when they were not participating in temple rites and engaging in the ritual washings associated with the temple cult. The apostles saw no conflict between the Torah and Holy Spirit, and neither should we. A great book on this is by the Christian scholar Dr. Matthew Thiessen called "Jesus and the Forces of Death." I'd also recommend Michael Barber's new book on the Historical Jesus and the Temple. Of course, my book, "Remember the Sabbath," is good too. ;)

It seems that the author of Hebrews' entire argument assumes that Jesus is NOT from the line of Aaron. That's why he says Jesus would not be a priest if he were on earth (Heb 8:4) and why he locates Jesus's priesthood in heaven, where the Torah's laws of priestly descent do not apply.

From Christ the mediator of the new covenant:
“Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:19)

Yes, the law of Moses is incompatible with the gospel. The law of Yah on the other hand, goes hand and hand. The Son of Man literally quotes the 10 commandments and when talking about divorce he distinctly says that "Matthew 19:8 He said to them, "Because of your hardness of heart Moses allowed you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. Matthew 19:8 Jesus replied, “Moses permitted divorce only as a concession to your hard hearts, but it was not what God had originally intended." Which clearly shows that the law of Moshe is different than the law of Yah. Just like Yah intended on destroying them at Sinai but Moshe begged and pleaded to save the remnant. Just like Abraham pleaded for those in Soddom and Gomorrah. The bottom line is in Matthew 22:36-40 Yahusha made it quite clear the 10 commandments are what matters because the truth is if you actually follow those 10 commandments you can't break any other law. The biggest mistake mainstream Christianity makes is not understanding what Yahusha was saying in that moment. They call it love, which it is but what is love? Love is following the commandments of the Father. One of the biggest issues with the full blown Torahism is so many of those laws or commandments were given with two specific caveats. One is most of them are followed by the phrase "when you possess the land I have given to you or your fathers" and the other issue is the temple is necessary for most of the other laws. Even though it says often "you will remember this for all your generations forever and ever doesn't necessarily mean literally forever as we know it. It often means forever, as long as you live or as long as the temple is here or as long as you possess the lands. Jonah was in the belly of the fish forever but was he really? Then the question becomes do we kill serious sinners, hang them on a tree until night fall then take them down before the next to so as not to desecrate the land? Obviously not but that's a commandment or law in the OT. The Torah offers many values and I would never intentionally oppose it's teachings but at the same time and I supposed to wipe put every Amalekite I see today? The rent and twain of the temple veil at the sacrifice changes a lot. If you honor the 10 commandments you can't violate any other rule. You can honor the feast days but you can never do them properly without the house of Yah.

In the New Testament sometimes "Christ" is used as a Title but most of the time it's used as a Name.
    "Jesus Christ" is Firstname Lastname.
It reminds me of how Elohim from Genesis 1 is a title but Yahweh Elohim from Genesis 2 is a name (in the Old Testament).
