Thank you so much for these videos! I just found your channel today, and oh my word...this is teaching me already. I am the only caregiver for my husband who suffered a cardiac arrest and subsequent strokes in a few areas of the brain, with anoxic injury, they said due to how long he was without oxygen before they got him back. Most of the doctors wanted to put him down, quite literally, but he had a neurosurgeon already who came when I called and fought for him. He told me he has multiple patients with worse injury who are participating in life but it takes 3-4 years. Neil indicated he wanted to fight, to try, so that is what we are doing. We are 6 months out, and he has had a half dozen instances in the last month where a few words suddenly are there, then gone. He has said my name, said "mom', asked me" what last happen"... Then the words are gone. I had to fire the last ST because she wouldn't accept he can swallow and all she did weekly was come stick a lemon swab in his throat, say he didn't swallow, and leave. He was just shutting down when she came. New one, first appt he followed all commands, swallowed multiple times, and she was asking "why did the other one say he couldn't do any of this and isn't progressing?!" she has scheduled his swallow study, and gave me a chart to start working on figuring out what letters he recognizes. I am doing my best but am tired and feel inadequate... Just hearing this today, you gave me a place to start. Sorry for writing so much, but you are making a difference. I'll be on your website this week. He is bedridden, total assistance, but progressing bit by bit.
