I agree with you on the BP batteries making it a small piece of kit. The image quality makes it such a sexy beast at the price point.
if the KX used smaller batteries i would have given it at least some consideration. the small v mount batteries dont last long on KX so they dont help me personally
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, man. Love to see the OG Komodo without any rigging. Keep rocking
Thank you!!!
Thanks for the update! I just picked one up and feel the same way. For me it's the ergonomics that are a huge selling point. One idea for another video - I'm curious what you're doing for audio on professional gigs.
Time code!! But yes you make a great point I should make a video on it
Red had your camera for a month and didn't tell you they were missing a part to work on it is pretty bad customer service. That would turn me off from Red right there. When I had the BMPCC4K and called them to get technical help, I didn't wait on the phone for more than a few seconds before I was connected to someone. And they helped me out pretty fast at that point. Customer service is a huge factor to me. Hopefully, they've hired more support to back up the needs of Komodo X users since it appears to be selling really well.
It could be better now, but honestly, with the Nikon acquisition is will probably definitely get better
Ha…. Red is dead now…. Komodo kicking ass now…as low as $3,300…. Enjoy them Nikons lmao…. Red trash
@@rMr.big13 well just because borrowlenses sold for $3300 doesn’t mean that’s the used price. Those Komodo’s had crazy hours and you are not going to be able to easily transfer the ownership on them
@@ReachFilms doesn’t matter the fact is they’re still going cheap and they get it cheaper cheaper by the minute nobody wants them anymore specially, since this so-called Nikon acquisition
Nice dude!
Yeah I've been super tempted to pull the trigger on a used Komodo for the same reasons, I just don't need the slo-mo.
But that stormtrooper looks sickkkk, do you miss it a bit?
I may be the small majority, but no I don’t I rather have the black model any day. On set it’s cool because people know exactly what it is, but I don’t always want to just use it on set as I discuss in the video
OG Komodo packs so much value right now, especially when buying it used. Thanks for the video Geoff!
Thank you Josh!! In more than one way ;)
Where have good used ones ?
@@eyemaxmax7419 Facebook marketplace is the best place for deals but you need to be cautious and preferably buy from the original owner so you can transfer the ownership at some point at red.com
How would you compare this to the blackmagic 12k?
Better image quality and ergonomics where the 12k has better frame rate options
How's the face tracking af nowdays? Have they improved it?
On the OG Komodo it’s the same as when they introduced it a bit back
any advice how to set up the phone with the Komodo. I have it working on my iPad but for some reason even after resetting the wireless connection on my phone it never will connect.
I’ve noticed the older the phone the more issues I have, maybe delete the app and reinstall it
@@ReachFilms Its last years iPhone the 14 its not old. Deleted the app tried on my girlfriends phone as well same phone. No go for either but on my iPad it works right away.
@@schumif1champ there may be some kind of interference where you are
@@ReachFilms Not that I know of have a standard wifi router but other then that nothing I know of. I will try connecting today away from the house and report back.
I know everyone has their take on the Nikon situation but I think it’ll only help RED as they have brought their product to an attainable level for lower end solo shooting pros. Nikon has so many resources to bolster the business of RED that will in the end make them a better camera system. Like if an MBA company bought out my documentary filmmaking company but let me run it and keep it and bolstered my business with their knowledge and resources. It would only make it better. Not everyone’s cup of tea but it could be great with the right partnership.
I agree!
Welcome back.
Thank you!!
great video. How did you go about selling? I think I want to sell my Komodo and other equipment
I sold it in the red Komodo users group on Facebook
@@ReachFilms Any recommendations for selling other gear? Best practices?
Hi Geoff, thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience, your videos are always interesting.
I am curious if you have try the new Black Magic Cinema Camera 6K Full Frame? It is FF and, I think, the IQ is slightly better than Komodo OG; and it comes with an excellent 5" monitor (1000 nits) and a high quality and flexible 12-bit codec (BRaw). Maybe your clients want RED R3D but in terms of IQ, the BMCC 6K FF ir very impressive for the price (you can get two BMCC 6K FF for the price of one Komodo ready to shoot). This non scientific comparison could illustrate what I am talking about: ruclips.net/video/4-ArHeOTv5g/видео.html
Thank you! I think the Blackmagic image quality is great! I do think a few things. The pocket 6k is slightly better but since it’s an EF mount it’s starting to be not as versatile. If Blackmagic came out with an L mount super 35 camera I would totally pick one up. I just really have no interest in picking up a third lens ecosystem since I’m in Sony E and in Canon RF right now. I do think the Blackmagic 6k FF has a lot of value though it’s just not for me
But why did you come back?
i break it down in the video, but the part you are probably asking for is certain gigs want the codec and dont care which camera if its 24/30
