    Should give this a go in more low-light situation. Would love to see this and how it handles noise.

      i am with you! first step for me was seeing if it was even worth using this setup, next step is testing some anamorphic stuff, then i am totally all in on doing low light testing

      @@ReachFilms that would be exciting. I’m looking for someone who’s done some tests with the Blazar 35mm (the deals look so good right now). Will be tuning in when you do.

    Here' a cool idea I'd love to see you try: you could adapt the micro 4/3 .64x adapter to Sony using the 30-dollar Fotodiox adapter... it wouldn't have any electronic connection, but it would be kind of awesome to get that much light and FOV on the raw mode for the fx30!

    • @ReachFilms
      @ReachFilms  10 месяцев назад

      I like where your heads at! I don’t have a x64 adapter anymore, but if I find someone who has it I would be interested to try for sure

  • @DomoArigathanks

    Man I’m trying to decide if I should make the move on this sppedbooster and sacrifice the AF… the frame opening up the crop is probably the biggest selling point for me, even above the stop of light.

    • @ReachFilms
      @ReachFilms  10 месяцев назад +1

      i know right??? i think for the most part i canalize without the AF because projects i would use this for i wouldn't need it anyways, next step is testing my anamorphic adapter with this setup

    I assisted on a shoot this weekend and the DP did something similar. The footage was better than my Sony body and native lens. Kind of frustrated because I bought a bunch of e mount lenses and to even use this approach I would need canon lenses. SMDH.

    Hey Geoff thanks for the super helpful video! I'm currently sweating trying to choose between fx30+speedbooster or fx3 - I wonder how close the FX30 w SB gets in terms of field of view to the FF FX3, wish I could see that - Is it a big difference do you recon? Many thanks!

    • @ReachFilms
      @ReachFilms  10 месяцев назад

      Hey! So the difference is super 35 so it would be the normal non raw fx30 field of view vs the fx3

    Great stuff. BTW, I tried the locking cine version of the M43 to EF .64 Speedbooster a few years ago and the locking mechanism wasn't compatible with lenses with a rubber gasket. Based on that experience, if people plan to use photo lenses with weather sealing, I'd recommend getting the regular version like you have

    Good video Geoff. Will using a Metabones speedbooster, or the Sigma one, can I use full-frame lenses and get similar looking results despite the Super35 /APS-c sensor of the FX30?

    • @ReachFilms
      @ReachFilms  6 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks!! I don’t think the sigma has a speedbooster, but yes if you film in the normal raw modes you will get the “full frame” look on the fx30 when using the speedbooster

    • @BSN_100
      @BSN_100 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@ReachFilms Thanks for the quick reply. From your experience how much of a hit does the autofocus take when using the Metabones speedbooster? I'm saving up to get an FX30 later this month, and my only real worry is the low-light performance. Having an extra stop of light from a speedboster would help out with that I imagine.

    • @norgerichard
      @norgerichard 5 месяцев назад

      The speedbooster makes your camera a low light beast.. But the autofocus is slow..
      When I first bought it, the autofocus did not work.. After firmware updates, it does work now, but it is slow.

    Bro I have a doubt, my camera is full frame but I have APSC lenses, obviously when I activate the crop it is multiplied by 1.5 what I want to know, if I put the speedbooster to my fullframe with an apsc lens is closer to the focal length of the lens example (18-35apsc in full frame is a 27-52mm) with the SB would be closer to the 18, is it true? I need to get out of these doubts. And thank you very much

    • @ReachFilms
      @ReachFilms  8 дней назад

      I would only use a speedbooster in that situation if you are using a camera with a crop or mode smaller than apsc with apsc lenses

    This may be a dumb question but I use mostly e-mount lens for my FX30 and I was wondering if a speed booster is needed for native lens or is just to adapt lens to e-mount?

    • @ReachFilms

      its only for adapted lenses, so unfortunately native lenses can't use this method

    Please don’t tell me you had this stunning model and you only shot her looking back at the camera? Step outside your comfort zone and mix it up.

    • @ReachFilms
      @ReachFilms  8 месяцев назад

      Unfortunately, for the whole RAW video set up it isn’t good for run & gun filming as being able to just use the camera with a lens. You have a lot more going on with the set up so in order to do the tests especially weight wise. I had to be as efficient as possible because it still took longer than you think.

    • @BusStopBourbon
      @BusStopBourbon 8 месяцев назад

      @@ReachFilms Sounds like excuses. My FS7 MkII with kit is around 15 lbs. It actually makes for a smooth steady shot. Again, get outside your comfort zone. Experiment and more people will tune in. ✌🏼

    • @ReachFilms
      @ReachFilms  8 месяцев назад

      @@BusStopBourbonbro I show the setup, the fs7 can be operated handheld, this setup can’t really . Nothing to do with comfort zone. Again look at the camera setup in the video to understand what I’m talking about. If I had a shoulder rig setup and a different way to mount the monitor? Maybe, but you made a comment and I’m being brutally honest. This video was not supposed to be some sexy ad it’s straight up supposed to be a test with the image quality of using raw and a speedbooster or not. You are looking for a completely different video

  • @MindzEyz
    @MindzEyz 10 месяцев назад +3

    Hopefully constructive criticism is ok. This video is almost unwatchable for me because of the jittering. When I see this, it's normally because of 24fps. I don't know if you used 24p, but it's a super common biproduct of that. People tout 24p as king, but it literally makes me queazy on RUclips. I really wish folks would stop listening to that advice. It's only cinematic at the cinema. on a 60, 120, or 240hz display, it's just missing frames and becomes janky. I swear this is no criticism to you or your content. Please look into shooting in divisions of 30 and do some tests to see if you can see what I mean. There really isn't anything wrong with smoothness. If you aren't even using 24, and maybe cranking the shutter please forgive. I just want you to know that it is noticeable. God bless. Note: I have gigabit internet and a very fast set of computers both Mac and PC, and a couple of high framerate TV's in which to view content and it's the same on all, here and away from home. Again Thanks for all you do.

    • @ReachFilms
      @ReachFilms  10 месяцев назад +5

      Hey! Yeah man as long as you are respectful (which you totally are) write what you want! The main thing is, most people who use this raw video mode are not making videos for RUclips, so to film it in 30p doesn’t really help as they (and I) will be filming in 24p for client/commercial/doc work. So although in some cases on RUclips it looks weird since it favors 30p, it’s not genuine to show content that would be captured in 24p, and film 30p instead just for RUclips. Again RUclipsrs are not really going to film on this kind of setup as it’s the law of diminishing returns

    • @MindzEyz
      @MindzEyz 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@ReachFilms that is a very good point. I did not consider that. Recognizing the final resting place for the content must be a consideration. Thanks for pointing that out.

    • @MindzEyz
      @MindzEyz 10 месяцев назад +1

      @eddieriosyt It's ok. Some people are very sensitive to framerates. Believe me when I say you don't want to see it, because once you do, it ruins a ton of otherwise beautiful content. Gerald Undone has a very detailed video explaining the phenomenon. Big studios have calculators that they use to minimize the effect because the effect is common. It's definitely a thing. The author of this video knows that I mean no disrespect.
