This video will forever exist. It is a clear perspective of Virgil Abloh’s thought process…it’s complex yet simple. To be able to articulate to this magnitude is an example of his creativity and genius. He stood at the intersection of culture, art, streetwear and high fashion. He will be missed.
What a person. In his last years he fought through and gave everyone the tools to create. He left behind a great archive of information for designers to learn from, information that otherwise would've been pretty rare to see readily available. Virgil is showing there is a path for people in an industry that sometimes feels so hopeless. What a legacy. RIP
His “chasing the dreams of your boyhood” philosophy is inspirational. It is exactly how I feel about my art. I never want to let go of my boyish curiosity for life and art.
You will always be loved and remembered for sharing your own visions and creativity with the world while inspiring so many others to do the same. Thank you Virgil, rest in peace.🖤
how cool is that every time he speaks new ideas are coming to my head, for a painting for a picture for a performance for a tshirt, this guy is the modern Virgil Abloh to our generation, he makes me want to just be me and no one else. You’ll never die V.
This breaks my heart, In times when creativity beauty and freedom are so needed, a soul that leads the way in such endeavors is taken away from us. RIP V :(
Too many people are quick to judge because they heard someone say something bad about Virgil and not enough people put in the time to learn about his creative process and how articulate and thoughtful his work really is! 👑™️
it's alway invite pro and contra, fans and hatter. but no matter people judge him with loud sound. they are not get anything. why off white so popular? because many people get his art and his creative. On instagram they have 10M follower. virgil of course success, off white sucess. no underatted or overrated, the fact always speak the truth. i'm fans of virgil abloh. he genius.
What an amazing person, can you imagine sitting here speaking such deep convresation knowing you are about to die. I love you Virgil, you will be missed and your spirit will live thru, you have motivated and inspired so many people in such a short time. One love
virgil abloh is 1 of those dudes u hate from afar cuz all the corny ppl where his stuff. but u grow to like him when u actually sit down and get to know him
His view of the Tourist + the Purist translates to every part of this (post)post modernism era of culture. It's those who lean towards the purist are usually those quick to look past his praises and call it hype - and miss out on the positives they could take away.
@TUbIuyola his message, dedication to putting on the youth, and the massive portfolio of work…yes I am very serious. Virgil alone shaped the entire fashion industry to what it is today. He broke down so many walls that go way beyond the physical clothes he made. I don’t even know why I’m replying to this though. If you know, you know. Not interested in debating, that’s just how I feel
truly genius. one of few people who personified and manifested the message of "living in the and."when he goes into the idea of never having to decide its truly showing that everything is connected and only bound by the viewers perception. beautifully rare mind thank you for your work sir.
He is a really great speaker. Very intellectual and has a lot of depth and knowledge on art, fashion and music history. Only thing he lost me on was comparing Playboi Carti to Miles Davis.
Yeah, I agree. I was thrown off when he said that. Now I have to look into Playboi Carti and see if I feel the same thing. Such a huge compliment to Playboi. Virgil is a man in his own league that will continue to inspire.
You could hear his voice changing in this interview and I wonder if it was indicative of his sickness. I am really sorry he suffered while trying to work and give out creativity to the world. He was a man of intense intellect and curiosity. RIP Virgil.
I was just so goddamn sad, when I read of this man’s passing. I was introduced when I enjoyed the video on YT where Yeezy described his complex feeling around Virgil getting that LV job of his dreams. I spent A$400 on Hype or whatever, on a $20 white IKEA clock with “vanishing” stamped on it, from that Virgil collection. It beautifully encapsulates time is fleeting, every second counts, like the loss of this visionary man. I also collected a wallet (stamped cards/money etc), carefully like the valuable artefact it is. I will keep collecting a few, I think - within my means. He probably knew of his illness and it’s severity when he said how streetwear would die…. and repeating the word die, and being replaced by the next generation.
What is the interconectiveness between you and your friends that you guys feel on a regular day about the existing world and how you can formulate that into your project to the point that the presiding generation doesn't even realise how off-base it can be.
Interesting thing about Virgil is that he always thought that street fashion was absent and he brought it into fashion and culture… actually street fashion came into fashion when the rock and punk movements rock the social life in UK and US and lot of designer like Vivienne Westwood became leaders to connect street with La Mode . Punk fashion was street fashion …it was so cool that designers put it on runway. Same happens with rap and hip hop…simply now they are in the high fashion houses such as LV (traditional conservative bourgeoisie )…After this celebrity issue …he thought that Disco was cool for its time and that s it when time is out …Goodbye disco no longer artistic…. but someone should give lifetime artistic credits to Jay Z because he is Artist and what he si doing will stay forever? Everything passes ...everything !!! In my opinion he is hard and heavy for conversations but cool and creative as designer!
That’s exactly what he means. That’s how The world works he’s using that perception and countering it with his 3% rule, meaning you see a water bottle and you expect it to have water but what if he puts wine into it? you see that as something new, he’s saying that’s his design process countering the norms by using things we already have in the world and breaking the mold or what you might consider normal. That’s why he says bringing architecture to the art world. Shaping the design process and ideology. Same thing with bringing that diversity to the art world.
Was it meant biblically? “Wine was also used as a symbol of blessing and judgement throughout the Bible.” “ A wineskin is an ancient type of [bottle] made of leathered animal skin, usually from goats or sheep, used to store or transport wine.” Further “ Mark 2:22 NKJV “”And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; or else the new wine bursts the wineskins, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But new wine must be put into new wineskins.”” “Neither do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins…” (Matthew 9:17 NIV).” “To live is to suffer, to survive is finding meaning in the suffering” Rest Well Virgil Abloh🕊👑 ☮️
I've been a critic of Virgil, but this interview really pulled the curtain back. I think he is hard to listen to because I used to think he was just spewing rhetoric for the sake of tickling one's ear. But for some reason, I heard past the words in this interview to see that there was something special there and I just wasn't listening.
Virgil inspired me and I appreciate everything he had to contribute to fashion, black culture, and the world! His legacy will live on forever!
FAX!!
Let’s just say culture. If we keep separating everything by race we’ll never grow as the one human race that we all are

"Creativity in the childlike sense." We have an enormous body of work left for us all. Thank you Virgil. Rest in peace.
Crazy to think that he was battling cancer during this time... RIP LEGEND
He wasn't..I believe he was murdered
One of the best decisions I made this year was going to this. So much information and inspiration from this experience.

He is a really great speaker. Very intellectual and has a lot of depth and knowledge on art, fashion and music history. Only thing he lost me on was comparing Playboi Carti to Miles Davis.
There is something very freeform about Cartis style and in a way I can see the correlation
Same here Miles was in a box by himself .
Yeah, I agree. I was thrown off when he said that. Now I have to look into Playboi Carti and see if I feel the same thing. Such a huge compliment to Playboi. Virgil is a man in his own league that will continue to inspire.

“You can put wine in a water bottle...but what does that mean?”
you gonna get tipsy
That‘s one of the key statements in this keynote for sure. Just mindblowing imo
Nobody would even get that if u showed them that in person
