Catching Stripers, Spots and Hybrid Bass on Carters Lake in Winter

- Me and my Good Friend Patrick, Went to Carters Lake on a Cold Windy day, and the Fishing was good. We Trolled Umbrella Rigs in pockets due to the wind was so bad it was white capping out on the main lake.

When you are trolling umbrellas, how do you know how much line to let out to get to the desired depth? Also, what is a good rod and reel setup for what you're doing?
Phil it all depends on the type of line on the reel and the lb test. Fluorocarbon will run deeper than mono at the same length let out behind the boat. I am running 40lb mono here and running about 80 feet of line. Gets me about 20 feet deep. I will let out around 100 to 120 to get down close to 30. It depends on where I am graphing them as to where I run them. I may also run one at 80 and one at 100 ft out. If I am looking for them. When I get a chance I will do a short video of my rod and reel set up for what I am doing for you as well. Hope that helps out. If you got any more questions shoot them my way.

Great video!!! This has inspired me to start trolling Umbrella rigs. Would it be possible for you to tell me where you were when you caught those fish? I fish carters a lot, but I am not familiar with the good spots for stripper. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for the comment, i will hit about every pocket with a creek coming into it. Really the key Is using side scan for me stripers cover so much ground they can be in the pockets then out on main lake in short time. I cruise with my side scan until I find pods of bait then I will start trolling or putting lines out if I happen to be live bait fishing.
