Thank you for commenting! Since this video has been getting a lot of comments regarding Sonny Vaccaro I thought it would be apt to clarify the issue.
The movie Air is slightly Hollywoodized by taking creative liberties for dramatic effect, portraying a rift between key figures. Even Ben Affleck who directed the movie said at its premiere “This is not a documentary” and that “This is not meant to be the absolute, perfect history of who did what and who said what.”
The truth is that Michael Jordan, Phil Knight, George Raveling, Sonny Vaccaro and Peter Moore all have different accounts of what happened and who was responsible for the deal. Not even Jordan himself credits Sonny and thinks the person who convinced him most was George Raveling, who ironically has just one scene in the movie. Jordan believes the second most influential person in the deal was Rob Strasser.
Phil Knight credits Rob Strasser and Peter Moore as the pivotal figures. While Sonny Vaccaro credits himself as the MVP of the deal. And Peter Moore mentions both Rob Strasser and Sonny Vaccaro as the people who made the deal happen.
      Making this a disputed history.
The situation is understandably complicated, said Moore, “Especially considering the egos involved and that each one has their version or interpretation of the same event.’’
Either way, Jordan has made billions from Air Jordans and the deal is considered one of the most influential deals in sports history.

It was the Nike Airships that were actually first banned by the NBA, NOT the AJ1 highs

It was always about the shoes. Always evolving then dipping back to the past. Never afraid to color up where others would say that doesn't work. Always kept full product lines with styles for everyone young and old. The brand never really fell out of favor. For 40 years that's amazing. Yep....always about them jordans.....

Not true at all. Everyone knew who Michael Jordan was when he signed with Nike. He was college player of the year, was the best player in the 84' olympics, and then was drafted third overall in the 84' draft.

From the movie AIR it was Sonny who made it happen. I’ve heard a lot on how Nike got Jordon to sign through his MOTHER!!! It was always Sonny’s IDEA!!

The movie isn’t completely accurate. Even Somny said in recent interviews that he didn’t go to Michael’s parents home like in the movie. That conversation with Michael’s mom happened over the phone. Also Michael said it was George Raveling who pushed him to sign with Nike, not Sonny.
