@@soraisthatguy CR7 is way more famous than ronaldo nazario lmao Had this been 2010 then yes, nazario would be "the ronaldo" but nowadays hes just a fat retired footballer, and whenever someone mentioned ronaldo everyone thinks of cr7 🤷♂️
Yes and I think that's the direction Nike is heading. Their new CEO John Donahoe was CEO of Ebay and ServiceNow before, so he comes from the tech industry. That's quite unusual for Nike, normally they promote from their own roster of talents and bet on managers with athletic background instead of hiring from outside.
That's just one part of the story. The second is Ronaldo (the Brazilian striker). I remember growing up in Europe as a kid in the 80's and 90's playing football. Wearing Nike's was not done. Nike wasn't a football brand and if you showed up with Nike's u was considered lame and dumb. It were cool sneaker u would wear to school under your Levi pants, not football shoes. Once Nike contracted Ronaldo this changed and this gave Nike a footstep into the biggest sport in the world, football.
If you enjoyed the first part of the video, I highly recommend the book "Shoe Dog: A Memoir by the Creator of Nike" by Phil Knight. It tells the story of the first years of Nike (Blue Ribbon). It is a great story and makes you realize how hard were those years and how they become a successful brand. Congratulations on the content of this channel. Great stuff as always.
Great video quality and content. One of the other reasons for Nike's original success is because they were one of the first companies to start using super cheap labour overseas. I know that when I had a couple pairs of Nikes when I was in high school (35 years ago), they were made in Indonesia.I know that I saw a program years and years ago that Nike was accused of going so far as to employ children in his factories. That practice may not have been illegal in Indonesia at the time, but it was shunned the rest of the world over. I stopped buying Nikes 30 years ago, after seeing that program.
@@AthleticInterest can you make a channel taking about a broader spectrum like Amazon and big businesses your videos are very interesting and very good at it I think you’d be much better than other channels
I really appreciate how the transitions for each of your videos are so distinct and top-notch! Kudos @athletic Interest! Love the inputs and breakdowns
I guess I`m a savage who uses sneakers cross category without giving it too much thought. I only separate into: Am I going to walk a lot and need it comfortable, or will I mostly be hanging out and want the most beautiful. The rest is matching color with outfit.
Another quality video, full deserved how quick your channel has exploded. This video idea is such a coincidence with a video I’ve just uploaded today 😅 great minds think alike... keep up the great work!
Not sure how I missed this video. Keep up the good work! One part you didn't cover is their hype beast models and or street wear. That's a massive driving factor in many ways for Nike. The limited drops, even manufacturing more but holding them back not selling them to create hype. People finding limited drops years later at outlets after they sold out and selling on stock X for over retail and so on.
That's soo dumb, I can't believe why people care about that. I want shoes that fit and look decent, and I want them once my old pair breaks. Why would I care about their scarcity or resale value?
This channel is highly professional and clearly the creators have a background in finance and research.. would be interested how it came into being, because usually channels don't start out like that lol
This is too much about “just Nike”. The documentary lacks the comparison with adidas, ASICS, New Balance, Puma, Reebok etc. Other companies had great innovations, big superstars and usually a much older tradition and experience. So, why or how could Nike become so dominant?
Conclusion: Nike makes that much money cause almost every fucking soul on this planet under the age of 25 thinks nike (and apple too) are the cool brands and stuff. I used to like nike shoes but now I hate them like they are sooooo overpriced for what they offer
It's funny how all of these brands start with being low cost and stuff but when they pickup they cost like an arm and a leg I prefer decathlon these days as it's cheaper like you can buy 4 pairs of shoes from them in the price of 1 from Nike Let's see how long it stays this way
The World Athletics really gave them free advertising with banning the shoes. Imagine someone tells you that you can't find that shoe or apparel your icon wore. You'd look for it and the company anyway possible. So of course Nike just got more popular

It's interesting the role that Asics played in the creation of Nike. Even today while obviously nowhere as large as Nike....Asics is still the 5th largest sports brand worldwide.
By the way - Vaporflys aren’t really banned in a significant way. They’re banned on the track, but Nike’s own track spike with the same revolutionary technology is not, and Vaporflys are still legal on roads where they would be actually used.
