soooo in the novel Hugo devotes entire paragraphs to Valjean's strong, almost beast-like, physique. Therefore, I approve this acting and casting choice. 👍
No, he doesn't ( describe him like a beast). At least, not a big, huge and mean one. He sais he was medium ( average) size. And age...let s not forget he was 46 when got out.
He sings from 1:44 to 1:57 with one single breath. He could have breathed at 1:53 like the others Valjean but he didn't. This man doesn't cease to impress me.
Check out "Can't Live, "Without You" by the one and only Harry Nilsson if you wanna hear one long breath. I adore Ramin, but mate, Harry does something I've never heard and most singers need 2-3 breaths to do, and he does it without any effort....sublime.

Ramin is my favorite Valjean, and I've seen a few. The latest I saw was Alfie Boe and while he was amazing, I felt like I had seen it a million times before. Ramin brings that unhinged/passionate aspect of Valjean
Ramin is an amazing actor, but one Veljean I would have loved to have the privilege to meet is Kyle. You will not be forgotten Kyle, why did you have to be taken from us at such an early age? you deserved twice the life you got.

Ok. No. He spent 20 years busting rocks as part of his sentence. That tends to build some muscle. Thats why Javert was suspitious of him. Because only a man who had done a hard sentence like that could've been as strong as the mayor.
Not all of us are rich enough to go to west end or Broadway when our favorite performers are playing our favorite roles. Also, bootlegs allow people who don’t live near theaters to expand their theatrical knowledge. I agree though, wish broadway would film more.

I don't really know what I think, be I love Ramin, but I only started to get into theatre a few years ago as I am only 13, so I missed my chance to see my favourite actor in my favourite role. I wish there was more videos of him as Jean Valjean, and I quite often wonder if I had the chance to watch him would I record, so I could watch him whenever I wanted, or would I not. Most of the time I decide that I wouldn't, because Ramin is my idol, and I would hate to think that he wouldn't like me. At 1:16 he does a little smile toward the camera and says "can such things be?" But no bad feelings towards whoever posted this. Thanks for letting us see a bit of Ramin as Valjean.
Seeing him live as Valjean was one of the most incredible experiences of my life! Not my first Valjean, but definitely my favourite! And I have seen many Valjeans, including Alifie Boe. Ramin becomes the character, I believe every word!
I love the foreshadowing to javert’s suicide in this song. Great way to show the fundamental difference between the two characters and their ideologies.

There's stage acting and then there's movie acting. We've never actually seen Hugh in a role similar to JVJ on stage, so we don't really know that either.
I saw the behind the scenes of Les Mes the movie and they were talking about how the singing they filmed was raw material.
