As a Quo fan since 72 this is as bad as it gets along with Previous album ITAN ‘ Back to Back ‘ Thirsty work’ Perfect remedy and famous in the last century. There’s more but I think I’ve made my point!!

Yeah I can understand where you are coming from, though in saying that, I think it is very unfair to lump any of their original albums in with Thirsty Work, it really is the absolute low point of their catalogue, I can still recall the crushing disappointment when I put that in my CD player on release day.

@@VantagePointrocks Thirsty Work and Perfect Remedy (in my view) are the weakest albums in their catalogue. In my view, they pushed the soft-rock/country thing too far and alienated a lot of their fan-base.

There's nothin' left, there's nothin' right ! That could have been the name of the album. I always liked it when Quo took that 12 bar thing and did something different with it even if it was AOR or over- produced 1980s music. It is more interesting than banging out the same album again and again that they have been falsely accused of over the years to a certain degree.

Yes if you actually listen to their albums then it is quickly obvious that all their songs don't sound the same. But definitely for me, doing something a bit different with their music worked on this album.

Quo albums fall into two categories absolutely brilliant or absolutely shite

Not one of my favourite Quo albums but not necessarily one of their worst.
It's very definitely "of its time" - the promotion & artwork with the pointy-headstock Charvel guitars on the front cover, the very 80's production, the emphasis on polished AOR/soft-rock (with lots of synths & drum machines) and quite a lot of input (some would say too much) from outside songwriters. Burning Bridges is a bit of a marmite, love-it-or-hate it type of song, but it was a massive hit for Quo and remains a live favourite (back in the days of standing at gigs, I even once saw it trigger a bout of crowd-surfing when it appeared during an encore 🤣🤣🤣 )
Having said that, there are positives and enjoyable aspects to it. The title track is quite good (despite the production having not aged well.) There are some flashes of the older, hard-rock stylings (particularly later on in the album.) Cream of the Crop is quite good (and it featured in the live set during the accompanying tour.) Magic is a good track as well (it was used as the B-side to the re-released version of RAOTW.)
As a player myself, I also have to tip my hat to Pip Williams and his guitar work on this album (he played quite a lot of additional guitar on Quo albums from the 70's through to the late 80's.) A number of the solos & additional lead parts on the AC album are recognisably him (as opposed to Rossi) he has a very distinctive lead guitar style and he's on great form here.

No it isn't a great, "Quo," album, but there are some good songs on there, that are definitely of the time period.

Yeah, an album that a lot of people don't think too highly of! But I do really like quite a lot of it, and still give it a spin often.

You are too positive about this album, it is a real turd !
The only 3 songs that are listenable are Ain't Complaining, Who Gets the Love and Burning Bridges. These are the singles, so that can't be a coincidence !
One For the Money is horrific, my ears start to bleed when I listen to this ! Possibly the worst song Quo ever did !
But everyone is entitled to their opinion !
But this album has NOTHING in common with the outpot from QUO in the 70's !

Well I'm afraid that from the moment I first bought the vinyl many years ago and played it, I've always loved the majority of this album. Definitely not the greatest Quo album out there, but in my opinion far from their worst.

At the time in 1988, it was a real stinker because until then there wasn't a real bad album from Quo (1982 and B2B were okay), even the Army album was listenable (too smooth for my taste and too much synth) , but Ain't Complaining was for me as a teenager a real embarrassment ! This was not the Quo which I loved ! In later years they made even worse albums, especially the Cover albums !
