When I need to noodle (never heard it called that before lol) I go half way through and knock a wedge in the top cut, it normally splits pretty ease. Saves fuel, saves your back, saves the saw.
Fiskars splitting axe is the way to go. Very good edge retention and pops rounds apart. I burn 2 cord a year all hand split, great exercise. Keep up the hard work.
That there is a sweet load of red oak. I was down your way on Monday, and was looking for your roadside score. Could have took a load home. Lol, just kidding. I was at the outdoor show at the farm complex. Keep on scrounging, brother!!! I can't wait until the snow melts, so I can get loads onto my property.
Hey Scheib that is another really nice load of oak brother. Screw that axe man I would have to go lay down in the truck for a 1/2 hour to recover. Noodle the rounds every time.
Light bar, Lite beer. It all works out. I was on a big red oak this morning and tried to roll it and the hook wouldn't bite into the bark due to the size. While it wasn't as big as what you have there, it was big. Anyway, I took the hook and put it in the saw kerf and it bit right in. A little trick that might help someday.
It's time to build you a hoist for the truck hitch Scheib, they don't cost that much, they save your back plus a shitload of time, chains and bars. I built one a few years ago, it's a must have in the firewood world when you're gathering at random places with only man power. I have a short vid of my design on my channel.
Another day another load, right on Scheib. I can never split wood worth a crap with an ax lol. I like to use a 6 pound maul and a wedge if needed. Noodling is more fun anyway. Take Care Brother !!!
I literally just did this myself last weekend!! BIG NASTY standing dead oak at my parents place that had to come down. 43" at the base and boy did it make a "THUD" when it hit the ground. All cut up into manageable rounds, split into 1/6th's so I could stack it. Lots of wood in that one tree. Feels good though.
Yes you are cuting in to Timber, nice wood.Yes i have a Stihl saw 0.38 MAGNUM,,Made in Germany 73cc .One of the kind,I file it will drop like (BUTTER) You have to hang on to it.Or the saw will draw to the other side of the log Hum.That is when it is cutting my ,Friend you have a good day,bye for now.😄
Nice oak score, especially because it's FREE.👍 Bark box has less restriction than stock muffler which reduces heat. Should help with saw longevity . Thanks for taking us along on your adventure road side logging 😁
Careful, I almost got a ticket from DCNR when I did some roadside logging. Granted I was taking dead ash off the side of road which was state land. “It belongs to the state” she said. This was NEPA between east stroudsburg and canadensis.
When you were whacking with the ax & it wouldn’t split, that’s my world. 🤣🤣 Also all those noodles you made, some kid could pick them up for their chicken nest.😎🐔 Enjoyed the videos of you getting those trees!!
Hi Scheib, good video. Nice oak….too good for firewood really, but I guess you don’t have options? Thought at one stage you might have to call on ‘Buckin’ for the axe work? I think you would have maybe done better with one of his ’bullets’ (axe). Nevertheless, excellent no nonsense video….keep up the good ‘road side’ work. Len (Devon🇬🇧)
The next saw I buy will be a 500i. I mostly cut firewood and my MS290 and MS250 will do about whatever I need, but when I have to cut big oak logs I need something more powerful.
I sure hope Stihl is giving you some type of compensation because you are sure putting that 500i through a work out and it is flawless. Can't wait for the next video. Keep up the good work.
That round was so wet, you never stood a chance. Let it sit for a few weeks though and it will start to check and become splitable. Especially with the blows you were throwing down. Noodling was the only option in your roadside situation. Your saw makes it look like I'm watching on 2x speed, lol.
I saw Chris from \in the woodyard split big rounds by starting to noodle around 1/4 or 1/3 of the way and then split it the rest of the way by hammering big wedges into the cut with a big maul. That seemed to go faster than just noodling (edit typos)
I’m a veteran and I’m here to tell ya military grade doesn’t always mean good 😜 like the military grade in ford pickups just means the heater only works in the summer. Kidding 😂
I’ve watched this and I have to ask, is it possible to drag a length of log down next to the road? That road doesn’t look too busy, you could use all that room to get the logs next to the road.I would rather not move all those rounds through the woods. ( I’m old and lazy. Lol) WOOOoOoo
Not sure if it’s worth it yet. This was my first time cutting rounds other than a few cookies. In my opinion you gain a bit but it is pretty loud. There is no tuning that I could find pretty sure it is all electronic with the fuel mixture and adjusts itself.
Scheib, another nice load out of that Roadside Loggin Oak! That was a massive tree. Lots of firewood. Great job noodling those down. It almost looks like 2 truck loads left. Anymore trees down in this area?
Hello boss do you have any sharpening you saw . Can't beat the STIHL I have one that I had for 20 yrs and still going.it's a 450.and I have a Husqvarna 450.Im from Canada.
Pants are from atlas46 very expensive they aren’t chainsaw pants or anything but I have had them for 10 years hold up really well. When I bought them they weren’t as expensive. www.atlas46.com/products.html#!/Concord-Work-Pants/p/55855076/category=12449578
Hi mate love watching you. Nice chainsaws, i fix chainsaws and service them also. Do you have any stickers i could have for my board please, thanks Derek.
Brother !!! You are the Stone Cold of Free fire wood !!!
When I need to noodle (never heard it called that before lol) I go half way through and knock a wedge in the top cut, it normally splits pretty ease. Saves fuel, saves your back, saves the saw.
Good point I just get carried away all the time 😂😂
Great job. Nothing like the smell of fresh cut wood. Enjoy your videos.
Fiskars splitting axe is the way to go. Very good edge retention and pops rounds apart. I burn 2 cord a year all hand split, great exercise. Keep up the hard work.

That saw is in good shape..I have to do the very same thing tomorrow...thankfully only a couple I couldn't get otherwise.
Great channel!!! It’s nice to see footage of all the struggles and adversities we all go through gathering wood 🪵 🙏💨
I prefer a Wedge and sledge. Something about splitting some by hand is very rewarding.

400 cm is what I had to settle for couldn't get a 500i anywhere in my area. Glad I settled it is an amazing saw love it 💯.
Nice job Scheib! Another great oak score for you. You are the roadside king
If I can do it Scheib can do it too..🤣🤣
Nice to see you swing (an axe) from time to time..😊👍
Nice looking wood. You can’t buy firewood as nice as that wood👍
Very true!
That saw sounds really good with the bark box on it . Another nice haul on the road side wood .
Another nice load of firewood. Cheers my friend
hi there i can remember when i was young . good job and work out john
Good stuff Scheib. Great footage of noodling. Nebraska WoodSTR
Thanks
I axe split smaller pieces, but stuff like that I use my fiskars 8lb maul and steel wedge. Nice score of wood.
Another day another load, right on Scheib. I can never split wood worth a crap with an ax lol. I like to use a 6 pound maul and a wedge if needed. Noodling is more fun anyway. Take Care Brother !!!
Great looking wood! Frozen rounds are no fun to split. Noodle 👍
Why do you think frozen splits harder? The colder the better.
Just got my 400c. Love it. Only other saw I’ve run was a 261 though.
You got a good aim with that ax, nice straight seam.
I literally just did this myself last weekend!! BIG NASTY standing dead oak at my parents place that had to come down. 43" at the base and boy did it make a "THUD" when it hit the ground. If it wasn't a challenge, it wouldn't be near as much fun
Another great day on the oak tree! 💯👍
The saw makes a great splitter to
Great videos. Looks like satisfying work.
Man the tree that keeps in giving! Another good haul for the roadside Warrior!!👍🏻👍🏻🍺

That saw is awesome.
Love the spaghetti squash sawdust when ya noodle

Paddy here that was impressive , nicely done I must say
Careful, I almost got a ticket from DCNR when I did some roadside logging. Granted I was taking dead ash off the side of road which was state land. “It belongs to the state” she said. This was NEPA between east stroudsburg and canadensis.
This land is owned by a water company I have permission and shouldn’t have a problem.
When you were whacking with the ax & it wouldn’t split, that’s my world. 🤣🤣 Also all those noodles you made, some kid could pick them up for their chicken nest.😎🐔 Enjoyed the videos of you getting those trees!!
Man-kiiller rounds! Good job. U Da Man!
Some nice stuff there Scheib!

That is some good looking wood! I think I would have pulled the splitter to the tree. Good job.
If I had your splitter I may have with the box wedge 🤘🏻🤘🏻🍺🍺
@@OutsidewithScheib that stuff is definitely bundle grade!!!
Another great load!👍👍
The bark box gives an interesting sound. Seems higher pitched ever so slightly. Nice roadside logging score yet again!
Frozen is good, knotty is bad probably need 7-8 lb mall for them . . nice job Don . That bark box is a little loud for in town ? nice load!!
Another roadside logging score
I sure hope Stihl is giving you some type of compensation because you are sure putting that 500i through a work out and it is flawless. Can't wait for the next video. Keep up the good work.
Great point
Good cutting on roadside wood. Not sure if the light bar is worth the cost for firewood cutting. Have a Safe Day
I’m surprised you didnt break the axe handle on that frozen wood beating! Military grade for sure!!
The colder the better it splits. That’s pretty straight grain wood I use a fiskars x27 split chunks that size easily.
Heck, I have a 15# monster maul I could loan you. 😁
I would of brought my splitter along
This road gets very busy at times didn’t feel like splitting along a busy road
Looks like you got the drags off on your chain it got some bounce when starting to cut.
Yeah I like it a bit aggressive that was mostly me being to slow with the feed lol
That round was so wet, you never stood a chance. Let it sit for a few weeks though and it will start to check and become splitable. Especially with the blows you were throwing down. Noodling was the only option in your roadside situation. Your saw makes it look like I'm watching on 2x speed, lol.

WOOOoOoo
It depends on the time of day on this road it can be pretty busy at times. it is very possible to drag a log length closer to the road.
I would bring a trailer and a 2 man log carrier, yes 2 nd man, load up that log .
What’s a “2 man log carrier”? Never heard of one.
Timber carrier
Thank you Donald Slate!
doodle the noodle schieb get that stihl knife it'll walk rite thru it
An 8 lb. Mall would have been a better choices would have split alot easier.
Were the other 2 cut rounds still there from Trip #1… 🤞🏻?
Yep
I have a 500i is it worth putting on the bark box and is there any kind of tuning you have to do to the saw or just bolt it on and run it
Not sure if it’s worth it yet. This was my first time cutting rounds other than a few cookies. In my opinion you gain a bit but it is pretty loud. There is no tuning that I could find pretty sure it is all electronic with the fuel mixture and adjusts itself.

Plenty of trees just harder to get to.
@@OutsidewithScheib, gotcha! Got to be safe getting at them.
Nice ax work for a smoker, 😂😂
Hello boss do you have any sharpening you saw . Can't beat the STIHL I have one that I had for 20 yrs and still going.it's a 450.and I have a Husqvarna 450.Im from Canada.
You should get axe from bucket billy ray
So do you contact the landowner or just drive around looking for fallen trees?
Contact the land owner
did you get a new camera? details are looking great
I am using a GoPro 10 and 9
Just noticed something today......are you left handed ? You hold the saw same as I do
Put a chain around it & pull it down the hill a little
Bit more.
Do you hand file or machine sharpen your chains?
Hand file with the 2 in 1
What kind of pants are those that you are wearing? -thanks great video

@@OutsidewithScheib Thanks Scheib!
What type of wood is it. ..?
Red oak
Hey scheib great job as usual. Your lucky no one else decided to cut up the rest while you were away!! Are u finding any gains from the barkbox?
If anything it’s not much but even a little is good.
Where in the country are you located? Thanks
Pennsylvania
@@OutsidewithScheib thanks
Scheib is that oak rounds?
I’m pretty sure that is red oak!
Need a bigger bar
The 25 is big enough for me I don’t get to many that are bigger then that.
did you ever hear of a steel wedge and a sledge hammer, would have split that straight grained oak in seconds,
Nice score don.
Hi mate love watching you. Nice chainsaws, i fix chainsaws and service them also. Do you have any stickers i could have for my board please, thanks Derek.
Sure email me your address OutsideWithScheib@gmail.com
How much these pies weigh
that 500 i has more than enuf power it walks rite thru that oak
MAGA!
what a shame cutting that nice saw log into firewood
Try splitting off the sides first
That was not a splitting ax watch bucken Billy Ray he will show you a splitting ax I noodle them big ones to
them aint no small pieces maybe a few hundred pounds
