1:39 Hey guys, I appreciate that you like my boxes enough to use them in so many of the DYK vids, I really do! but can you please give my website a credit in your "Sources" section of the description? I've spent 22 years scanning all of the boxes on my website and the credit would really help me pay for the server fees to host the 50GB of scans. Thanks! -Matt / VGO The boxes in question on this particular video: 1:39 (The box on the left says "SpooNMan" which is my old nickname, or SPooNMan...oops typo!...and the one on the right just says my current one. Thanks again!
Hopefully for the 3rd game they'll finally remember that having more than 1 animal buddy in DKC was pretty good 20 years ago and would be pretty good today.
Manuel Alberto Romero An unknown project, that apparently features music from the guy that composed for the Deux ex series, so it will probably feature a sci-fi setting. And no, it isn't Metroid Prime 4, Nintendo has confirmed that much.
The soundtrack for Tropical Freeze is probably the best I've heard from David Wise and for a platformer. It's been an OST I've returned to over the last few years and it's amazing. Go out and support this incredible game.
Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze + Returns & Knuckles + Bowser’s Minions Deluxe Game of the Year Edition featuring Dante from the devil may cry series: New Funky Mode!
The price stinks but for real... this game is worth it. Some of the best platforming and music you'll ever find in a game. I think the soundtrack for Tropical Freeze eclipses DKC2's OST. Yes, DKC2's soundtrack is a classic... But I don't think David Wise rested on his laurels for ANY of the tracks in Tropical Freeze. "Good enough" obviously wasn't in David's work ethic for this soundtrack. He went all out and it shows!
Caleb Jaaniste I wouldn't say its overrated, out of the original trilogy DKC2 had the most melodically created themes in the series. Don't get it twisted i still think tropical freeze's soundtrack is the best in the franchise but one thing that tropical freeze cant beat is the nostalgia that comes with DKC2's soundtrack, its been over 20 years since that game's release and people have built memories towards that soundtrack that when people listen to certain songs it goes deeper than just sounding good, it reminds them of their childhood. Compared to Tropical freeze being 4 years old the tracks are still fairly new so people won't be as open minded to let go of their childhood tracks like that. I would say after Tropical freeze, DKC2 follows after it. IMO DKCTF is david wise's best work.
Yoknuckles2 If I'm going to be honest, a lot of the music I listened to when I was 5-10 years old, whilst nostalgic, is also not really that interesting to me anymore, as if after all these years I'm bored of it, or the nostalgia isn't working its magic. So I guess you could see why I don't put these old soundtracks on such a high pedestal.
Caleb Jaaniste Sure that's fair, but then down the line wouldn't that same effect cause you to lose interest in tropical freeze's soundtrack. Also people still praise country 2 soundtrack very highly and that's after 20 years so i wouldn't expect them to get bored of it anytime soon, so i'm sure you could also understand why people still feel nostalgic towards it.
I really want a returns HD port on the switch. Surprised Nintendo didn't make a collection of both tropical freeze and returns on the switch for release
Seeing this shows how much of a collaborative and special process the creation of Donkey Kong on WiiU was, even right down the music. You can truly feel it when you play it. In my humble opinion, it’s also one of the best looking side scrolling platform games I’ve seen in recent years, from the colorful well designed stages, to the small background details and excellent character models. It makes me wish more people could’ve played it.
Sucks that Retro could’ve experimented with more animal buddies, there were only 3 Rambi levels in Tropical Freeze. Hopefully a new Retro Studios DKC game is announced during e3
I'd really like a TRUE Returns where player one can be someone other than Donkey Kong (Funky Mode is a step in the right direction), we get a variety of animal buddies instead of just Rambi showing up once or twice to say "Hey what did I miss", and of course WHERE THE FUCK IS KING K. ROOL!?!?!
Why do people want K. Roll back so badly? It’d honestly feel kinda cheap if he came back now as a main villain, kinda like the studio was just taking a cheap nostalgia shot to avoid having to come up with a new villain. I’d be down for him showing up as like a minor antagonist in a single world, but fine without him there.
David Wise's work in Tropical Freeze is perhaps his best ever. The meager music selection from the Donkey Kong series in Smash Wii U was an absolute crime.
Retro preferred to use other characters as antagonists. Now in the history of games, there is a theory that the Kremlings were slowly dying through the games until Barrel Blast. After that game begins Country Returns and Tropical Freeze.
Did you know, King K. Rool was going to be a boss in Returns however he never got past the concept art stage? Apparently he was going to be one of the bosses that would either be for the ruins, jungle, or forest.
When I saw this but couldn't see who it was I was like "It HAD to be you, it HAD to be you", I wasn't disappointed. It's cool that ProJared got to comment on this too, since I knew he watched the Donkey Kong Country cartoon. Funnily enough before this video the UK trailer for Tropical Freeze for the Switch played before your video started. :D
same!! i think it's a lot harder than this one and more fun as well. I recently uploaded some gameplay of the wii game in my channel if you want to check it out :)
Did you know? Miyamoto is the reason K. Rool and the Kremlings didn't come back in Returns. Retro asked him "What are we gonna do about K. Rool?" and he responded "Does he really need to come back?". He pretty much encouraged them to make new enemies and said "and no crocodiles this time!". It's pretty sad, but what can you do? I do hope King K. Rool comes back in the mainline DKC games again. I really do miss him and his Kremling krew...
I think its fine to change it up every once in a while, but K. Rool is DK's main villain. I'd feel upset if Bowser stopped showing up in new 2D Mario games, King Dedede wasn't in the newer Kirby games or if Eggman wasn't in the new Sonic games. I grew up with the original DKC games, DK64 and even King of Swing/Jungle Climber. I've always seen him and the Kremlings as the equivalents of Mario's goomba's/koopa's. It's sad that he's been gone this long. Plus, you can still change it up while having some of the same villains. K. Rool changes up his persona all the time. You could have just given the Kremlings a Tiki and Vikings look. You could have even created new types of Kremlings.
The game IS TOTALLY worth 60 bucks, but Nintendo was greedy for changing the price. It’s the best 2d platformer ever with some of the best music ever. Just a shame that people won’t play it because Nintendo was dumb with the price change.
Nabinani 777 well look at the bio shock collection of 3 games. They were remasters of ps3 games, for the ps4, and it is only 15-20 bucks. They weren’t even ports. They were remasters. So having a port cost triple the price as on the Wii U just hurts
Yeah, that's why I won't buy it again. If they had added more content to justify the price. I would have considered it. But hey, if Nintendo wants to be completely stupid. And lose potential sales on this game. That's fine by me.
I think DKC: Tropical Freeze is worth the price: You know how in the mario series there’s always a few levels from each game that were super fun and creative for example, the bone coaster? Yeah well in tropical freeze pretty much most levels feel like they have their own gimmick and it is so fun
man after i spent weeks with ocarina of time and finally beat Ganon.. i was really thinking of what to play now, i just started tropical freeze on my wii u and i am so happy!
I kinda agree actually that Persona 4 is ridiculously overrated. Storyline has a ton of flaws that no one seems to notice. Plus a load of broken morals that don't actually make any sense when you get down to it.
Oh yeah, it's overrated as fuck, but just because something's overrated doesn't mean it's crappy. There's almost always a big reason why people love it so much, which is why I try not to be too rough on the subject of Banjo Kazooie and it's horrible note implementation. . ;)
2:20 miyamoto really doesn’t sound like he even knows what video games are anymore. He added the blow mechanic which everyone hated, and he screwed over paper mario, and several other things. Wtf?
Caliduchey i personally think it is the george lucas effect. Where miyamoto first always got a lot of feedback improving his own ideas.that got him to this god like status within nintendo, and now people take his ideas without giving their own feedback. At least that is what i feel like
Silverware Warrior yea I understand that, but some of his stuff isn’t experimental, it’s more stripping down on ideas. “Only have toads in paper mario”, and that failed, so he made the sequel also only have toads..he doesn’t learn it seems. and he wanted to only include recycled donkey Kong country music into returns. Seems weird he wants everything to be basic and reused and nothing like how he used to make games. All original and unique
I have to admit I agree the blowing didn't fit in the game at all, it just slowed you down. However, I wouldn't really say the guy who invented Super Mario, Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong, F-Zero and Star Fox doesn't know what video games are. I'm just guessing here, but the problem might be some of his ideas are too exerimental to work. I mean, look at Pikmin for example, it's pretty outlandish, but it works.
happy 7th anniversary donkey kong tropical freeze!!! favorite nintendo game of 2014(along with super smash bros. & especially bayonetta 2 which i love just as much as this game.:3) with fun challenging gameplay, awesome music and a charming personality 2d mario should take notes from.(be cool if in the next game king k rool was brought back as the man behind the events of the retro games since he was going to show up in returns in tribal gear likely behind the tikis.)
I've heard that allegedly Tropical Freeze's announcement was met with criticism since people wanted Retro to go back to Metroid. Given that certain people have left the studio, it might be a good thing that they now have new found success.
In case anyone's wondering, the Kenji Yamamoto mentioned at 4:41 is not the same guy who fucked up the score to DBZ Kai. He just coincidentally has the same name and profession.
I actually missed seeing the Kremling enemies in the new Donkey Kong games, and I was kind of let down by the Tiki enemies in "Donkey Kong Country Returns" because they were kinda dull and not very unique IMO. :(
Orlando Garcia Nope. Know little about him, and I agree that he's not the best commentator. But his detractors, from what I've seen, don't even give proper criticism and just insult.
... odd. the one part i didn't really like about returns was the blowing mechanic, and how it slowed down the flow and pacing. miyamoto keeps dropping.... bombs?
“Banjo Kazooie for good measure” I mean it’s a phenomenal Rare game and easily one of my favorites but wouldn’t it have made more sense if they played DK64
They really should've bundled 'Returns' w/ the TF port - I mean, Platinum was willing to do it and that would've completely justified the 60 price point.
1:39 Hey guys, I appreciate that you like my boxes enough to use them in so many of the DYK vids, I really do! but can you please give my website a credit in your "Sources" section of the description?

If they make a new DKC game, they ABSOLUTELY need to bring back the Kremlings and King K Rool!
sameee i love these games
Couldn’t agree with you anymore
Agreed! I think the kremlings fit the vibe/look/humor much better
Bless Retro. Hoping they make one more DK game to finish the trilogy.
What have they been doing?
Metroid Prime 4
Nice Guy *valve remembers numbers go past two*
Hopefully for the 3rd game they'll finally remember that having more than 1 animal buddy in DKC was pretty good 20 years ago and would be pretty good today.

Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze + Returns & Knuckles + Bowser’s Minions Deluxe Game of the Year Edition featuring Dante from the devil may cry series: New Funky Mode!
😂😂😂😂😂✌
Now costing twenty dollars more!
The price stinks but for real... this game is worth it.
Some of the best platforming and music you'll ever find in a game. I think the soundtrack for Tropical Freeze eclipses DKC2's OST. Yes, DKC2's soundtrack is a classic...

i completely agree! Especially for those that have the Wii U copy already... but i still bought it, especially for my channel xD
DKC2's soundtrack is overrated. I say the other SNES games are just as good in terms of music. And Tropical Freeze is better than any of them.
Caleb Jaaniste I wouldn't say its overrated, out of the original trilogy DKC2 had the most melodically created themes in the series. I really want a returns HD port on the switch. Surprised Nintendo didn't make a collection of both tropical freeze and returns on the switch for release
That would have justified the 60$ price tag
and they already ported the game to 3DS, do you need to port a game that's not even 10 years old twice?
Spaghetti Yeti yeah, guess you're right. Nintendo would never port a game twice. So what's releasing on the switch next again?
Spaghetti Yeti
Yes, if you own a switch and not a 3ds or you'd like to play it on your TV.
just emulate it on PC in HD
Seeing this shows how much of a collaborative and special process the creation of Donkey Kong on WiiU was, even right down the music. You can truly feel it when you play it. Retro is modern day Rare
I just wish they could make their own new ip
Here 3 years later and still feeling it…
Sucks that Retro could’ve experimented with more animal buddies, there were only 3 Rambi levels in Tropical Freeze. Hopefully a new Retro Studios DKC game is announced during e3
Their post-it note reminding them about animal buddies must have fallen off the fridge.
I'm actually glad they didn't, because Tropical Freeze was amazing enough without them. And now this gives more incentive to make a 3rd DKC game.
ROOL!?!?!

Did you know? Banana Slamma.
David Wise's work in Tropical Freeze is perhaps his best ever. The meager music selection from the Donkey Kong series in Smash Wii U was an absolute crime.
picking up the game tomorrow and this comment is exciting
"Myamoto was heavily involved with Returns."
That explains the required waggle.
"Hey Miyamoto, we're planning a 3DS version, you wanna make a touch screen gimmick?" "No, uhh, just give the game regular controls."
Who cares there repsonsive and work fine
Uh oh, found the Paper mario fan.
Igorowan paper Mario fans are the best
I wish there was a fact about why the Kremlings, main antagonists of the original Donkey Kong Country games, don't make an appearance.
Retro preferred to use other characters as antagonists. Now in the history of games, there is a theory that the Kremlings were slowly dying through the games until Barrel Blast. After that game begins Country Returns and Tropical Freeze.
May the Funk be with you.
TheCartoonGamer8000 2Funky7Me
Same here, dude
Did you just say nEw FuNkY mOdE?!
Ouch man!
TheCartoonGamer8000 Thanks for the episode!
Y'all should play the music you talk about.
Tropical Freeze is fantastic, and David Wise is a genius, if they made another game with the base of that one is going to be a masterpiece.
Donkey Kong Country... every game in the series is a masterpiece.
As long as you're not including DK64 in that then you're bang-on.
The absolute amazement of getting Wise to work on the Aquatic Ambience remix.
That song is just too good.
AshnSilvercorp fr when I was in the water I was just swimming in circles enjoying the soundtrack
Jungle Beat was way underrated. That's a fantastic game right there!
Am I the only one who thinks this guy sounds like Adachi from P4?
I hope Retro makes King K. Rool the villain in the next game to cap off the modern trilogy
Both games are amazing and that wish Returns got an HD version that came with the Tropical Freeze re-release.
Did you know, King K. Rool was going to be a boss in Returns however he never got past the concept art stage? Apparently he was going to be one of the bosses that would either be for the ruins, jungle, or forest.
honestly david wise was the reason why i bought tropical freeze for the WiiU
Same here!! :O
4:10 That fur detail was great.
5:48 I actually never knew that.
I watched an ad before this video for the LEGO movie 2 and ended up watching the whole LEGO movie 1, the ad was 104 minutes
"This suggestion confused the team at first" They were right to be, it was a really bad idea.
Ahh my Jungle Beat and Returns connection didn't seem as crazy as it seems.
Here is to a new installment for e3 or later!
DK Country Returns is probably the main reason I'll never get rid of my Nintendo Wii.
same!! i think it's a lot harder than this one and more fun as well. I recently uploaded some gameplay of the wii game in my channel if you want to check it out :)

That gunship cameo blew my mind.

It’s the best 2d platformer ever with some of the best music ever. Just a shame that people won’t play it because Nintendo was dumb with the price change.
Caliduchey I am curious. Why is everyone so fixated on it? It must had happened to other remastered or games in other ports.
Nabinani 777 well look at the bio shock collection of 3 games. They were remasters of ps3 games, for the ps4, and it is only 15-20 bucks. They weren’t even ports. They were remasters. So having a port cost triple the price as on the Wii U just hurts
Plus all they did was add an easy mode
Caliduchey I see. It does sound like a scam.
Yeah, that's why I won't buy it again. If they had added more content to justify the price. I would have considered it. But hey, if Nintendo wants to be completely stupid. And lose potential sales on this game. That's fine by me.
The playing of the ds animation could also be a reference to conker who would play a gameboy after a few minutes
King K. Rool for Smash!
Wi11iamson Dixie Kong for Smash!
hehehehe :)
You came from the future huh?
Smash ultimate came out and king k rool is playable
done.
I think DKC: Tropical Freeze is worth the price:
You know how in the mario series there’s always a few levels from each game that were super fun and creative for example, the bone coaster? Yeah well in tropical freeze pretty much most levels feel like they have their own gimmick and it is so fun
He's back :l
Colby Tortorici he's bald
He’s black.
He is bigger faster and stronger too
Rotten Dragon he’s the first member of the dk crew!
Tropical Freeze is the best 2D platformer I've ever played. I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who hasn't given it a try.
Wow, I actually read that comic back when it came out. A neighbour of mine had the magazine.
DK, Donkey Kong!
He's the leader of the bunch,
You know him well,
Now he's finally back,
To kick some tail!
his coconut gun,
can fire in spurts,
if he shoots ya,
its gonna hurt!
Huh!
DK Donkey Kong!
For all of Miyamoto's good ideas, blowing was not one of them. No wonder it got changed in the sequel.
man after i spent weeks with ocarina of time and finally beat Ganon.. i was really thinking of what to play now, i just started tropical freeze on my wii u and i am so happy!
Cartoongamer is the only narrator I have to mute the video, and put on the closed captioning for.
this is the kind of things i love about nintendo, this game is so beautiful, and full of joy and happiness, is awesome..
Wait. DK Jungle Beat had a very nice lookin' DK with fur and stuff, how was it not possible in Returns?
Is this Adachi voicing this one???
You mean that horrible villain from that crappy, overrated video game with those stupid self-righteous teenagers?
+deadcake Sorry to hear that you have shit tastes~
Adachi was the best thing about Persona 4, fuck you.
There's almost always a big reason why people love it so much, which is why I try not to be too rough on the subject of Banjo Kazooie and it's horrible note implementation. . ;)
DK Returns + Tropical Freeze should've actually been a thing on the Switch. Sadly we only have Tropical Freeze.
7:13 i like how unwilling he sounds to mention the dkc animated show
I've got the Curse of the Crystal Coconut on VHS, and I cherish it
Fame!
Fortune!
Promise?
Fatal
I can’t go
I really wish there was a DK Land remake.
With his return, here's hoping King K. Rool is in the next DK game.
You 2000's kids these days doesn't know how gud we have a Donkey Kong cartoon with the worst catchphrase of all time.
BANANA SLAMMA!!
What are you talking about? Of course I know how good DKC tv is!! (Grammar is fun)
that show was so hilariously bad & the songs were awesome & catchy
2:20 miyamoto really doesn’t sound like he even knows what video games are anymore. He added the blow mechanic which everyone hated, and he screwed over paper mario, and several other things. Wtf?
Caliduchey i personally think it is the george lucas effect. Where miyamoto first always got a lot of feedback improving his own ideas.that got him to this god like status within nintendo, and now people take his ideas without giving their own feedback. At least that is what i feel like
Caliduchey Miyamoto has a tendency to want to experiment, for better or worse. But it was thanks to his innovations he put Nintendo on the map.
Silverware Warrior feels like he is going backwards when everyone wants him to go forwards
I got this game and Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition for $45 each and no tax and free shipping.
happy 7th anniversary donkey kong tropical freeze!!!
favorite nintendo game of 2014(along with super smash bros.
Oh hey a new DYKG!
*Clicks video and hears CartoonGamer*
Yeah I'll just leave.
Snorlave he's bad
вєηנαмιℓℓιση better off without you.
OW THE EDGE
Walk off an edgy comeback? I already did :)
Oh a deleted reply out of butthurt, that's hilarious.
I always wanted a port of DKCR from wii to switch but that probably won’t happen. Hopefully Nintendo just makes a new DK game for switch.
Yay! Returns is my favorite in the series
I've heard that allegedly Tropical Freeze's announcement was met with criticism since people wanted Retro to go back to Metroid. Given that certain people have left the studio, it might be a good thing that they now have new found success.
No hate intended but you sound like a 90's 4kids dub. It's pretty awesome
Banana Slamma!!! I can’t believe that they referenced THAT. That’s awesome. I hope they come back for a DKC 3.
Same but then again, the cartoon was popular in Japan and Europe and this wasn't the first nod to the cartoon.
Part of my childhood was DKCR.
Part of my childhood was DKC
How fucking old are you?
ThatBrawl MarioMain older then time itself.
youths these days!
Tropical Freeze is a cool game, but I'm not paying full retail price again just for one character.
They should've done what Bayonetta 2 did where you get a downloadable code for Bayonetta 1. I'd love to pay full price for both DKC:R games combined
I kinda want to see that more Metroid inspired dkc returns art
Goddamn Retro better be making a third game!! These games are phenomenal.
Retro Studios should bring back the rest of the DK Crew.
Would have loved Country Returns to be packed in with Tropical Freeze.
3:39
Hey! It's that one flower from super Mario Galaxy...
The Donkey Kong franchise deserves more
7:10 You can tell he was trying really hard not to laugh
happy 40th anniversary donkey kong!!! :3
I literally only know that parrot as "the guy who makes the 'banana slamma' reference."
Konkey Dong is the best unlockable character ever, thanks big N.
I love Jungle Beat, super underrated
I has a DK country tropical freeze for an ad
who else felt annoyed by the gameplay just skipping some of the kong letters?
I wish it was a bundle of both Returns and Tropical Freeze on Switch but oh well still bought Tropical
Love the artwork in the thumbnail.
Did not even read the full title and I knew it was gonna be TheCartoonGamer. Gotta love calling it. Keep it up man!
I swear they need to make games have that cozy 2D/3D model style
4:40 Wait, the same Kenji Yamamoto that composed the music for the Dragon Ball Z Budokai series?! 😀😀😀😀
Oh no it's the 4kids dub-sounding guy
theMoporter At least give him some damn constructive criticism if you're going to insult him.
NoirCore boy you sure defend him a lot. I bet you'd blow him if given the chance
Orlando Garcia Nope. Know little about him, and I agree that he's not the best commentator. But his detractors, from what I've seen, don't even give proper criticism and just insult.
