I started drawing/sketching when I hit something beneath the desk with my feet. I looked to see what had I just hit and there it was... the SNES bundle with the first Donkey Kong game. Instant love!
I will get this regarless, Donkey Kong is my childhood, and I personally like it better than Mario, also because Donkey Kong got beef with Dashie so it's funny that they are both my favorite.
I bought donkey Kong tropical freeze for myself because I was like donkey Kong I’m 62 years old. I bought a Nintendo switch lite. I was a little frustrated at first, but my daughter has been showing me in your videos and helped me quite a bit love this game.
I never had a Wii U so I missed this one. After watching your before you buy I’m definitely picking this up. I work third shift security and the switch has been a lifesaver. Being able to play great platformers like this as well as stuff like Skyrim and doom in my downtime between patrols is awesome!!

Because the Wii U wasn't a success but the Switch is. Nintendo had to make arguments for people to buy a Wii U and 10$ cheaper game was a try to do so i think. Now the Switch sells like butter and Nintendo is cashing in the full price now. I bought it for 55€ wich was 5€ off, but i've also seen it sold elsewhere for 50€ locally in a twitter post of someone. It feels a bit odd to spend full price for a re-release on a new system, but it's still new to me, so why not spend it? Also i'm not getting Wolfenstein 2 anymore because of the half game dick move, so i have a little more budget now for games that came complete on one cartridge. Next up is Hyrule Warriors. :)
For $10 more than the original game, we should've gotten new levels like the 3DS Port of Returns. Love this game, but I don't think Funky is worth the extra $10. The higher resolution & better performance don't factor into the price because that's expected from a Switch Port. Even if the game was released at $20 with nothing new, better performance would still be expected because the Switch is more powerful. I think the real tragedy though is that there's no new music, at least I haven't seen anyone talk about any new songs/remixes. Not having Stickerbush Symphony play on the level called *bramble scramble that has a similar theme to the original DKC2 level* was a missed opportunity of the Wii U version. Don't think that changed here which is a shame because the song was already in the game, just change what music file is used and there you go. :P

$60 = No Buy I don't understand what's with Nintendo and Donkey Kong. They went all the way to the VGAs to only announce Cranky Kong as a playable character back then. Now they are adding Easy Mode Funky Kong and slapping a $60 when the Wii U game was $50. Do you see them adding Splatoon girl in MK8 and calling that a whole new mode? Or is playing as Luigi in Super Mario 3D World, Luigi Mode?... Nintendo is going *ahem* bananas.
i 200% this game, i think its probably the best 2D platformer of at least two generations, i absolutely love it. And i still think 60$ is excesive for this port
Muh, $60. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Porting isn't just copy and pasting. If you had a Wii U, this port isn't meant for you. This doesn't affect you. Nor is it ripping off ANYONE.
Absolutely love this game! I’ve never played it by myself, but with my older brother in multiplayer! It’s so fun and definitely a challenge!! Highly recommend 😄
The main issue for me with the game is that I got all the puzzle pieces and KONG letters, and my reward was unlocking a mode that makes you play the game all over again with less health. I didn't play that mode, though.
Fantastic game but yes the reward is a slap to face by the Developers but every DKC game is like that with no real reward for your hard work DKC1 nothing DKC2 a second short ending DKC3 same thing but DKCR and DKCTF is a lil better but terrible rewards collect all the puzzle pieces and you will unlock artwork and collect all the Kong letters and beat all the temples and the secret levels and then you will unlock hard mode so yes terrible rewards but at least they gave us something unlike the original DKC games 💯💯💯
I beat the main game in about 6 hours. Very fun but slipping around on the ice was incredibly frustrating. The bonus temple levels are insanely fun and hard. The only major problem I have is playing with two separated joycons there can sometimes be a bit of input lag, or you'll push a button and the action won't be performed.
My wife loves Donkey Kong on SNES, and is great at it, even better than me. She cannot play newer games, especially those in 3D. So, it is very exciting that she absolutely loves this game and plays it with me. It's very challenging for her but she's up to it. I'm glad I'm better than her at this one.
The last Donkey Kong game I played was on the NES lol. It's like having an old friend back. Works basically the same but looks really great. The background in levels can look REALLY good at times. It's nice to have something from my past back. Now let's imagine if they did a Breath of the Wild with Donkey Kong lol. That would be cool to see.
Donkey Kong Country: Bananas of the Wild... It's not hard to imagine what an open world DK could look and play like. He's bigger, faster and stronger than Link, wouldn't need any weapons to pummel his enemies, would be way more acrobatic and agile, climb faster, jump higher and further and gallop like a horse. Add in his Animal Buddies, swinging vines, zipline vines and barrel cannons for even more varied traversal and you got yourself an awesome playground to get around in.
Geeezz... I have my switch just for 3 months and my pile of shame is full with half played games i still have to finish like mario odyssey, zelda botw or even dragon quest builders. My wishlist isn't helping either, full with for example fe, xenoblade and, yes, donkey kong as well... welp!

I think you missed a key point to the Funky mode that I honestly love as a drunk perfectionist, not losing the KONG letters you get at the end is such a great thing for my frustration levels
Look at it this way, if you never played it don't see it as a port see it as a brand new game.If you have played it why would you buy a game you already have?
I mean you can say that, but it's also a game that barely got any attention in the first place cause of their poor marketing for the system, and to make up for the loss of that system I'd probably do the same damn thing as well. They also did it for Bayonetta 2 & Mario Kart, but MK is deluxe with all the dlc so...meh There's also nothing stopping ya from just waiting for price drop, since if you didn't own it already, not much going for buying it now if you had no interest in the 1st place And personally I'm not a fan of the DK games, I'm pretty trash at tight control platformers like DK or Super Meatboy
I have to say i agree with you, i would even say this is absolutely a must play for platformer fans. It is surprisingly challenging (especially with coop which is how I played it.) and a very fulfilling game.

I've been playing since the originals, personally i think that dkc 2 is the hardest, to play it normally and to 100% it. But if you are going to 200% this game, i.e completing hard mode after you unlock it, then yeah this is the hardest by far, that i think is closer to Contra levels of difficulty, one heart, no companions, no checkpoints. I also think that dkc 2 is the best one, but i admit that it could be nostalgia, since its one of my favorites and the first i played. But despite that i absolutely belive that this one is at least second place. And in my eyes, it is probably the best 2D platformer of the past two or three generations, it is that good.

I remember getting 100% on Donkey Kong Country 2 in early 1996 when I was only 6 at the time. Kinda hard to believe younger kids would have difficulty with the game and if they did isn't that just more of a reason to come back and play it for them? I know it was for me when I constantly would die in DKC2 two decades ago...

I bought this yesterday for my birthday. 60 € is a small price to pay for me, especially since I had previously convinced myself that I wouldn't ever be able to play this game since it was a single player game on WiiU; a console that I had no intention of buying because of the small library and also because two of my friends already had it with a lot of multiplayer games that I got to play regularly. So far I've played through the first two worlds and haven't regretted my purchase yet. I remember playing Returns for two months straight when I got that game in the past, so let's see whether or not I'll find completing everything in this game just as addicting.
This game is hard. If you haven’t been playing games since birth I don’t see you beating this game. At the very least they could have made earning lives easier.( yes the shop but they run out)
I have been playing DK since snes, and I must say i still get the same vibes from this. Personally I feel like this is a nudge towards honouring the really oldschool platformers, since you just have to get good it is as "easy" as that. They have added so much of the old games in here (riding the rhino, minecarts a.s.o), that it makes my heart melt. So I would definetly give this one a try, at least if you are one of those whom used to play them back when snes was the jam! Sorry for my bad English btw, it is not my native tongue.
I'm blown away I never played any of the new DK games. I love DKC, DKC2 and DKC3 and those are some of my favorite games of all time and this game is just as good if not better. Co-op takes the cake. Super nostalgic. Must have for any DK fan

I figured it would be a straight port with some improvements and there's fewer than I expected. The one time Wii U ownership and loyalty paid off.
I've been playing this series since the beginning, and the only one that I've never played is DK64: in my opinion, Tropical Freeze is the best entry of them all.
I bought Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze for my Wii U off of some lady for only $10. I could not see myself spending the full $60 for not much change but I could see why someone who doesn’t have a Wii U anymore (or never even had one) would go buy the new version. If you have your Wii U still get it for cheap on their! Fantastic game regardless, hope everyone enjoys it.
Being a die-hard DKC fan from the SNES era it would seem these games are right up my ally. But I bought this for my WiiU thinking I would have a blast with it, but unfortunately, that didn't happen. For me it was the wonky controlls. Everyone that has played the SNES DKC games know that they require precision controls for "higher level play" , in terms of timing jumps and such. Therefore my biggest gripe with DKCR and DKCTF is that the controls doesn't work the same as in the original trilogy. Atleast on the WiiU DKCTF had the option to switch rolling and grabbing between the Y/ZR buttons but it didn't have the option of using the Y-button for all of the actions. That really got to me, so much so that I have only been able to sink ~8h into the game, and I haven't even bothered to finish it. And that comes from a person who absolutely adores the DKC franchise.
Tropical Freeze is - without exaggeration - a 2D platforming masterpiece and anyone who missed out on it for the Wii U and has the opportunity to play it on their Switch now, the $60 asking price is well well worth the purchase. I'd recommend any new players to experience the game the way it was originally meant to be played (i.e. not with Funky Kong). . . I mean at least try the regular mode out first and see how you do, and if then you find the game to be too difficult, move on ahead to the Funky Kong mode. Brilliant OST by David Wise. Brilliant level-design and attention to detail by Retro Studios. . . This game deserves to be played and praised by many more than it already has.
I loved the game but the controls are too loose (same as in DKC Returns)... They don't feel as tight as the original SNES games and that bothered me when i was playing it for the first time... of course you get used to them but having finished DKC a couple thousands time they'll never feel right

TIBO Cuphead didn't cost $10 and the fact that is hand drawn doesn't mean it was harder to make than this game, especially considering is shorter. Not defending the price of the port, but saying that a game should not cost full price for beeing a 2D platform is ridiculous to me, in that case every game that's not open world or somethig like that should be cheaper despise how well made it is.

I'd rather would have had a new world than an easy mode. Like this, it's definitely not worth the full price (especially not if you already owned it once). The game surely is going to be great but it uses a lot (!) of assets from Country Returns. Characters, gameplay, some objects, heck even the interface and sounds are the same! It feels more like an add-on to Country Returns than a standalone game to me. For all this it's not going to be worth 60$, no way.
If you already have it for the Wii U then don’t buy it unless you want to. It’s meant more for people who didn’t have a Wii U or want the game anywhere they go.

i find the graphics and characters on dkc returns a bit more boring, a lot of jungle and seamingly random designs for bosses and enemies, the originals very thematic with the kremlings, in returns you are fighting random birds, crabs and tikki statues. The snowmads are just better imo. And the game mechanics i think are tighter in this one, no any of that unecessary blowing on flowers. But thats just my opinion
How long will the price drop? All switch games are so expensive so that's why I choose to not buy Nintendo Switch for a while now. Once games are affordable to buy then I will buy Switch.

I mean you can say that, but it's also a game that barely got any attention in the first place cause of their poor marketing for the system, and to make up for the loss of that system I'd probably do the same damn thing as well.
They also did it for Bayonetta 2 & Mario Kart, but MK is deluxe with all the dlc so...meh
There's also nothing stopping ya from just waiting for price drop, since if you didn't own it already, not much going for buying it now if you had no interest in the 1st place
And personally I'm not a fan of the DK games, I'm pretty trash at tight control platformers like DK or Super Meatboy

I have to say i agree with you, i would even say this is absolutely a must play for platformer fans. It is surprisingly challenging (especially with coop which is how I played it.) and a very fulfilling game.

I've been playing since the originals, personally i think that dkc 2 is the hardest, to play it normally and to 100% it. But if you are going to 200% this game, i.e completing hard mode after you unlock it, then yeah this is the hardest by far, that i think is closer to Contra levels of difficulty, one heart, no companions, no checkpoints.
I also think that dkc 2 is the best one, but i admit that it could be nostalgia, since its one of my favorites and the first i played. But despite that i absolutely belive that this one is at least second place. And in my eyes, it is probably the best 2D platformer of the past two or three generations, it is that good.
This game series has some of the best music from any piece of art. It's an underrated gem for Nintendo!

I remember getting 100% on Donkey Kong Country 2 in early 1996 when I was only 6 at the time. Kinda hard to believe younger kids would have difficulty with the game and if they did isn't that just more of a reason to come back and play it for them? I know it was for me when I constantly would die in DKC2 two decades ago...

I bought this yesterday for my birthday. 60 € is a small price to pay for me, especially since I had previously convinced myself that I wouldn't ever be able to play this game since it was a single player game on WiiU; a console that I had no intention of buying because of the small library and also because two of my friends already had it with a lot of multiplayer games that I got to play regularly.
So far I've played through the first two worlds and haven't regretted my purchase yet. I remember playing Returns for two months straight when I got that game in the past, so let's see whether or not I'll find completing everything in this game just as addicting.

This game is hard. If you haven’t been playing games since birth I don’t see you beating this game. At the very least they could have made earning lives easier.( yes the shop but they run out)
I have been playing DK since snes, and I must say i still get the same vibes from this. Personally I feel like this is a nudge towards honouring the really oldschool platformers, since you just have to get good it is as "easy" as that. They have added so much of the old games in here (riding the rhino, minecarts a.s.o), that it makes my heart melt. So I would definetly give this one a try, at least if you are one of those whom used to play them back when snes was the jam! Sorry for my bad English btw, it is not my native tongue.

I'm blown away I never played any of the new DK games. I love DKC, DKC2 and DKC3 and those are some of my favorite games of all time and this game is just as good if not better. Co-op takes the cake. Super nostalgic. Must have for any DK fan

Also, glad I had a Wii U for once because I bought the game unused for $18 a couple of months ago for the Wii U instead of a pre-order for my Switch. I figured it would be a straight port with some improvements and there's fewer than I expected. The one time Wii U ownership and loyalty paid off.
I've been playing this series since the beginning, and the only one that I've never played is DK64: in my opinion, Tropical Freeze is the best entry of them all.
I wish they would make a 3D donkey Kong game like Donkey Kong 64. It was such a classic.
I bought Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze for my Wii U off of some lady for only $10. I could not see myself spending the full $60 for not much change but I could see why someone who doesn’t have a Wii U anymore (or never even had one) would go buy the new version. If you have your Wii U still get it for cheap on their! Fantastic game regardless, hope everyone enjoys it.

Being a die-hard DKC fan from the SNES era it would seem these games are right up my ally. But I bought this for my WiiU thinking I would have a blast with it, but unfortunately, that didn't happen. For me it was the wonky controlls. Everyone that has played the SNES DKC games know that they require precision controls for "higher level play" , in terms of timing jumps and such. Therefore my biggest gripe with DKCR and DKCTF is that the controls doesn't work the same as in the original trilogy. Atleast on the WiiU DKCTF had the option to switch rolling and grabbing between the Y/ZR buttons but it didn't have the option of using the Y-button for all of the actions. That really got to me, so much so that I have only been able to sink ~8h into the game, and I haven't even bothered to finish it. And that comes from a person who absolutely adores the DKC franchise.
If I can beat Cuphead, I'm sure I can beat this as well.

Tropical Freeze is - without exaggeration - a 2D platforming masterpiece and anyone who missed out on it for the Wii U and has the opportunity to play it on their Switch now, the $60 asking price is well well worth the purchase. I'd recommend any new players to experience the game the way it was originally meant to be played (i.e. not with Funky Kong). . . I mean at least try the regular mode out first and see how you do, and if then you find the game to be too difficult, move on ahead to the Funky Kong mode.
Brilliant OST by David Wise. Brilliant level-design and attention to detail by Retro Studios. . . This game deserves to be played and praised by many more than it already has.
I loved the game but the controls are too loose (same as in DKC Returns)... They don't feel as tight as the original SNES games and that bothered me when i was playing it for the first time... of course you get used to them but having finished DKC a couple thousands time they'll never feel right

TIBO Cuphead didn't cost $10 and the fact that is hand drawn doesn't mean it was harder to make than this game, especially considering is shorter. Not defending the price of the port, but saying that a game should not cost full price for beeing a 2D platform is ridiculous to me, in that case every game that's not open world or somethig like that should be cheaper despise how well made it is.

I'd rather would have had a new world than an easy mode. Like this, it's definitely not worth the full price (especially not if you already owned it once).
The game surely is going to be great but it uses a lot (!) of assets from Country Returns. Characters, gameplay, some objects, heck even the interface and sounds are the same! It feels more like an add-on to Country Returns than a standalone game to me. For all this it's not going to be worth 60$, no way.

i find the graphics and characters on dkc returns a bit more boring, a lot of jungle and seamingly random designs for bosses and enemies, the originals very thematic with the kremlings, in returns you are fighting random birds, crabs and tikki statues. The snowmads are just better imo.
And the game mechanics i think are tighter in this one, no any of that unecessary blowing on flowers. But thats just my opinion

How long will the price drop? All switch games are so expensive so that's why I choose to not buy Nintendo Switch for a while now. Once games are affordable to buy then I will buy Switch.

i loved playing donkey kong country one of the best games ive ever played but they shouldve added more bosses. I just didnt want it to end that fast, i just discovered tropical freeze and i might try it out i cant wait for a good challenge!
