I still believe that to this day it was the difference between catching them or not if you held the b button to catch. Even roaming through Alola I still do that when catching pokemon.
Did you also notice that the music that plays when connecting the Pokeball Plus is the same music that plays when connecting a Pokewalker? I love those little details!
Soul Silver/Heart Gold Best Mainline Pokemon Game.I promise you get to go back through the entire Kanto map in a better than ever way too that game is dope.
Dawid Yeah. And? Some of us actually enjoyed those experiences. Doesn’t matter if the new catching method is quicker if it doesn’t feel satisfying. I just hope it keeps the traditional catching method in the 2019 release and keep the GO catching mechanic in the Let’s Go series.
“Video game comfort food.” I like that. I literally thought, “this is so relaxing,” well playing the game. I enjoy the catching mechanics, more so than I thought, thanks to the Pokeball Plus.
Honestly I caught more pokemon in this game than in any of the others. Being able to control the rate at which you interact with wild pokemon is so much more of an enjoyable experience. I used to hate getting stuck in caves fight 40 lv 11 zubats in a row. Also I love seeing wild pokemon walk around. It's so much more of a compelling experience. More like the anime.
This game is great as a 20-year Pokemon player like myself, but also for my 7 year old Daughter. I get to revisit Kanto, and make brand new memories with her. Also, I actually find the catching incredibly addicting, where I thought I would feel like you did here with it being a hinderance, but it didn’t feel that way to me.
@@feIon Except making pokemon unbattle-able isn't miniscule. It doesn't just affect capturing pokemon, but training as well. Yeah, you get experience and stat boosting candies from capturing pokemon and that is actually enough if you are being smart about it, but the limited nature of this method given that you are eventually going to run out of poke balls and money to buy poke balls (and trainers to make money from), just makes the whole process more stressful in a game that is supposedly supposed to be more relaxed. Not to mention training this way adds the 'fun' chore of endlessly reorganizing your pokemon box shipping all the crap you've caught to Oak while avoiding accidentally sending your keepers. Would it have hurt to at least give us a separate box to have our keepers in if spam capturing was going to be the training method of choice in this game?
@@EuphoriaDreamer you ran out of pokeballs and money? you're full of it lol. bruh I caught literally 200 weedle when i was shiny hunting and didn't have a single issue with pokeballs. I have not even made it to lavender town yet. And battling wild pokemon I think is being VASTLY overrated. Lets be real battling the same wild pokemon over and over again was equally if not more annoying than catching the same wild pokemon. When was pokemon 'hard"?
I think the game is actually really good. I was one who didnt like it when it was first announced, but honestly this has been one of the most fun experiences I have had with Pokemon in a long time!
Those are my exact feelings! I though I would kinda regret it because it's been too associated with Pokemon GO, but it's definitely an entity on its own. It holds up great, and I've been having tons of fun doing the "then, and now" comparisons from memory.
I had a lot of skepticism too since they're dumbing down further a series that never really was hard to begin with but I bit the bullet and just recently bought the pikachu+pokeball plus bundle and actually just sat down and enjoyed the game so far for what it is despite playing the old yellow/red a crapton of times before.
@@rain1676 no, I also bought it. I love this game. I'm tried of everyone saying how crappy it is and reviewing it crappy without given it am honest review. You shouldn't hate it just to hate it for no reason.
Yaknow this would have been better if they had Pokémon walk out the grass and stuff like they do now but ALSO had some Random battles inside the grass as well as even giving you EXP upon fighting them with your Pokémon or at least give us EXP from trainer battles lol. [Sorry for the run on sentence]
This is coming from someone who only played a few pokemon games and has no nostalgia for the gen 1 games or whatever. I bought the game because I recently got a Switch and just wanted to add some games to my library. This game ended up being insanely fun for me, actually. Personally I think that the game isn't perfect but it's far from being a bad game. It looks really nice and the remade soundtrack is amazing. The motion controls suck at the start but get a bit better once you get used to them. I actually really like how the random encounters are so much less annoying now, I just don't like the pokemon go style catching. Also yes, the difficulty at the beginning is way too low. You can generally just cruise through the first few gyms. It gets a bit harder after that though, and that makes it a lot more fun. The game is fun, but it's up to you to decide if it's worth 60$. Overall, a great game to introduce Pokemon GO players and more casual players like myself who generally don't like grinding as much to the franchise. The game is certainly not a 0/10 like most of the entitled idiots on metacritic would like you to believe. 7.5/10 for me.
It's nuts man, it's not like this was advertised as the next main game installment. The creators themselves said this would be different and that a main game is coming next year. 60$ is way too much however, even 40 is a lot. The main series games were about 40 and they have tons more content. 30 $ would have been good imo. Anyway, I'm glad there's a bridge between go and main games so I can hopefully have my friends be on board for the next main game.
If you want to make the game more difficult, I recommend ditching your starter early. The starter is completely overpowered, without it the game is definitely harder. Disabling the Exp Share helps too
@Rage Fabe do you even pay attention? He was saying that Ember and Tackle are both ineffective against Onix but Ember is stronger because it calculates against Sp.Def which Onix lacks. Also, bird types aren't a thing, that's an unused typing in the Gen 1 games that was replaced with Flying. :P
tbh i love the feature that pokemon are visible in the overworld, and the catching. i hated the thousands of random fights in the older games, they got tedious quite quick. catching pokemon is a quicker way and seeing the pokemon in the overworld makes it easier to evade pokemon youre not really into encountering right now
As someone who never got into it I feel like because the random fights this might be the one for me cuz I have fond memories of it but holy shit the same fights over and over and over and over drive me nuts
@@Straatbrak true but they did an omega ruby and sapphire for the 3ds they should of added an omega emerald. Would like to see heartgold remastered. But yeah a red and blue or maybe even yellow for the 3ds or switch would be nice.
I’m in the “this one’s a let down” camp, but I’m considering getting Let’s Go Eevee for my little sister for Christmas. It would be her first Pokémon game, so it’s kinda perfect!
@@ludwingadrian you have can't train your pokemon by battling and defeating wild pokemon in Pokemon Let's Go. The pokemon go battling mechanic that this game uses only allows you to catch pokemon without fighting it. Therefore, you can only gain exp by catching it, as fainting it is not an option in wild battles
I enjoy the new catching mechanic, because it makes grinding less of a chore/take less time, it's more accessible for newbies as it can dictate the pace of the game more clearly, all while retaining the core experience of the battles and the game. The best part is, we're still getting a fully fledged original formula Pokemon game next year, so this isn't just some change we're stuck with.
Honestly they should have kept the old battle system with wild pokemon AND had the pokemon go style catching of said pokemon. Best of both worlds 🤷🏻♂️ & it woulda been better imo
I prefer pokemon main games but if they want to keep it like this with the catching system im ok with it but im not liking that pokemons dont seem to have abilities from what ive seen
Btw i hope if they make dlc they make a jotho map etc... It would be fun to play them and also if they can add abilities it would be cool since idk why they didnt add them its not like the game will be any more or less casual
ORAS had it right. With unique pokemon waving their tails in the grass. I wouldn't mind this feature if they also kept the wild system...making the ones that DO pop up special, or maybe they're worth extra exp or something.
Also, I hope they introduce more Pokemon in the Overworld. I don't want them to remove random encounters completely, but seeing Pokemon walking around in the grass is such a cool feature
so its even easier than the 20 year old Gameboy version ? can i make the game harder in anyway, i dont want to just press X To win, that would get boring .
MrVercettti89 X is cancel so you won't win with that. But you could always set yourself rules when you play like no healing items so you can only heal at a Pokémon Center or only one type of Pokémon allowed in your party or the first 6 Pokémon you run into are your party until you complete the game.
So it’s actually pretty nice haha to spend some time with and show people who come from Pokémon Go it’s also pretty hardcore and it’s an easy way to get first gen Shiny apart from PoGo itself
In my eyes this is a great game that features Pokémon, but this game is not a Pokémon game. This is a game similar to Pokémon mystery dungeon or any other spinoff of the actual Pokémon games but this is not inherently a Pokémon game no matter how hard they try to make it such.
Sounds about right. But It was also never intended to be like a main series Pokemon game either, they were pretty clear from the start it was going to be different to cater to a different audience.(Pokemon GO fans).
I get what you're saying but for example Mario tennis is still a Mario game even if it doesn't belong anywhere near the main Mario serie. Let's go is a twist on Pokémon gen 1 and nothing is quite as Pokémon as gen 1 in my book.
Its like a remastered game version of pokemon origins. If you watch the 4 episodes you will know that the storyline is the same but this time you are red although there is one already but its the same story ......like you can’t catch wild mew as same as red didn’t catch it in the series or the ghost marwok and all that....... it has the first original pokemons each with their different attributes and beauty unlike the new generation pokemons........ so yeah its a remastered kinda game of the pokemon red blue i guess but a lot better
People keep saying that this game has been dumbed down, but honestly competitive Pokemon has never been more accessible due to this game and the meta is actually really interesting. SInce Megas and Alolan forms are in the game it completely changes what it was in RBY and always around stealth rock means every team has to be prepared for it. Also, the fortune teller makes it so that you can always get the right nature pokemon for your build, and combo catches let you maximize IVs easily. Sure, grinding for candies can be a bore but there is a candiless lvl 50 mode so that isn't even an issue. Also, that means we effectively have two metas since some mons, like chansey, are only good in candyless meta. In short, while the story mode is easy, the game is still lots of fun for hardcore Pokemon fans. And if you want the extra challenge, then don't use candies, change the game type from "switch" to "set" and use mid-tier or permadeath pokemon. When were these games ever hard anyways?
@Daniel Samolewicz still way easier than relying completly on RNG like in the other games. Besides, one stat doesn't matter anyway since you're not going to use it. Don't need special attack on a Aerodactyl.
Matt Heitmann i can’t say that this is worth buying a switch just to play. This game was catered toward casuals not people who have bought every single Pokémon game. The lack of abilities is the hardest pill to swallow. And grinding for candies is what I wanted at all. This is Pokémon go for the switch not a Pokémon rpg. It looks nice but it’s not a game people who want to be competitive will play we would rather play untra sun and moon and restart the story 4 times before attempting to be competitive on this. And stealth rock is not the only way to play competitive btw. Sure there was a time here or there but I wasn’t something that was so prevalent that it killed the competitive scene...... you could easily get around stealth rock with a first turn Ko which would happen a lot. Or a move that made Pokémon flinch. There’s moves to get rid of stealth rock as well.
My pros and cons: Pros - Pokemon spawning in the overworld was a great addition. Absolutely stunning and beautiful mechanic to add to the games. - It's an easy game for newer people to get into. The mechanics and concept of battling are made easier (ie super effective moves do a lot more damage to emphasize and reward good type matchups and vice versa). - It is still pretty faithful to the original game, so definitely still enjoyable for older fans of the game as well. Cons - I was personally a big fan of the battling wild Pokemon system to catch them. I loved the tension of having whittle down a Pokemon's health without killing them in order to be able to catch them most effectively. While I did enjoy Pokemon Go, I really had hoped that mechanic would stay in the mobile game. I know some people prefer this catching system to battling wild Pokemon, but I personally just liked battling more. - The game content seems a bit lacking for the 60 dollar price tag. Compared to the more recent titles, it just feels like it has severely less content to be a full priced game. Even though I really enjoyed myself with it, it just doesn't have enough in it (again, compared to what we have been getting recently) for me to definitively say that I can justify the $60. In the end, it is up to you to decide. If you are a long time Pokemon fan, then I definitely recommend the game; it is certainly worth a go. But if you're a bit on the fence, I would say see if you can find a cheaper version or a used version or something because after playing it, you might not be able to tell yourself that it was a good use of the whole 60 bucks.
A sight for sore eyes after the massive amount of people telling others that they won't buy a switch because of this game alone. And also a good summary of the vid.
I don't get why people review-bomb things, especially Pokemon, just because they don't like it. I agree with you Jake, this is a perfect side dish to play while waiting for the entree, and I'm a sucker for nostalgia.
The problem I'm having with this is that it honestly won't hold people over until the next core game because of the lack of content. What are you supposed to do after you beat the story mode, after you complete the dex and after you beat the master trainers? It's just not $60 worth of content and I think that's where a lot of people are divided. I don't think review bombing is constructive though, I think that part of the hate train is immature tbh.
This game was great. I’m not a go fan but I haven’t enjoyed a Pokémon since diamond and pearl, this was something new with something old, a perfect refresher for the Pokémon series IMO
One reason they dont make demos like they once did is becuase they lose money and credit for sales. Instead they put out the game, People buy it, dont like it, return it. The store loses the money sale, but the company that makes the games keeps the sale, and credit for sales. Rather you keep the game or not it still counts as a sale on their end.
Nicely articulated review, dude. Helped me make an informed choice: am gonna go ahead and buy I’m a 39-year-old utter newbie at anything Pokemon, and this looks like a gentle way of entering their world 🐵
If you're an Amazon Prime user like me watching this, know that the Eevee version is discounted at $30 for Prime Day. If that 50% price adjustment sounds good, this is your chance!
Metalseadraking True it’s a bit steep but you I have to buy the game by that I mean I might have preordered a couple copies by a couple I mean 42 but uhhhhhhhhhh
Sullir Yeah... no. I played with my friend on his version and im kinda glad I didnt bought it. No offense to anyone who has a wholesome expirience with these games though.
Having been injured and unable to play Pokémon go and an old school yellow player stuck inside most of the day this is kinda epic and pretty much made for me. Go was kinda boring after two years so this will be a good easy welcome back warm up for the “real” game coming next year!
The whole catching useless Pokemon to level up was a huge turnoff for me. Also I tend to only catch Pokemon I intend to use, so I'll usually beat the Champ with ~30-40 different Pokemon in the dex... And then Kogas gym happened and I had to go out and catch 35 new Pokemon just to be allowed to battle there. That was the point where this game died for me tbh. In a new Gen game where I want to try out new Pokemon that's fine. But this? I didn't catch a single flying type because I knew I'd get Zapdos (which would replace Pikachu as my electric type as well) and maybe Articuno, so I didn't worry about getting an ice type either, I got a Bulbasaur and that was all the grass/poison my team needed, you get the point. Like what the hell? Let me play the way I want to, if I decide I want to focus on useful Pokemon don't make me catch garbage. I'm gonna do that once I'm there Champ, once I can catch Pokemon I might want to evolve at a high enough level that I don't have to grind then up anymore, not halfway through the game because reasons
I feel you, there should be no cap of pokemon to fight the gyms. I'd rather get my ass handed back to me because the champ clapped me than having to sit in the bushes to meet a threshold. If they really wanted a cap, they should make it so you have to catch every pokemon possible to catch on the routes, like if there are 3 possibles, then make me catch those 3 so I fill up the Dex as I advance the adventure
That’s the slogan used to sell merchandise. Most Pokémon players either play it in a semi competitive way or a casual way. Not a lot really give a shit about catching them all.
I've been waiting for this game for at least a year now. I got Let's Go Eevee because Eevee is my second favorite first generation Pokemon behind Mew. I am enjoying most aspects of the game currently and agree with just about everything said in this Before You Buy. I appreciate that they fixed a lot of the balance problems of the first generation with regards to the Psychic type and the Special Attack stat. They also added the IVs to the first generation and added a Judge option as well so when you catch a Pokemon, you can see right away whether or not the Pokemon is worth investing in. The Judge command tells you what the Pokemon stats will look like when maxed out. I'm not far enough to "Shiny Hunt" yet, but from what I've gathered, it's considerably easier this time around. Actually, the difficulty of the game overall is much, much easier when compared to other version releases, and especially easier when compared to Red/Blue/Yellow. Your "rival" is more of a friend this time around, which makes me feel guilty about naming him Douche. The original Douche, Gary, does make an appearance though. The only real complaint I have is wild Pokemon, and the catching system overall. It's not difficult at all to land Great and Excellent throws, but the success rate of catching a Pokemon is wildly random. Pokemon with around 1000 combat power might be caught on the first throw with a normal Pokeball, and the next Pokemon will break out of a dozen Ultra Balls before running away. It's so frustrating. That said, I think the game is worth it. The fact that it focuses on the first generation only opens the possibility of adding new pokemon and regions in the future with DLC or a season pass or something.
I just got this game, it's soooo much fun. First Pokemon game was Diamond, played every one except Gen 1 and Gen 2. So, yeah it's fun for me, bc I've never played it.
Changing from grinding battles to grinding catches is strange but honestly makes the game feel different enough when switching from trainer battles to wild encounters. It feels like "hey, I just caught this new Ghastly, let's have a battle!"... Which is exactly like the TV show.
the lack of wild battles didn't ruin the game for me at all... there is enough battling in the game to be fair so I'm not missing it at all... also the pokemon on the overworked make the game more alive than ever before, choosing your catches instead of just roaming mindlessly killing tentacools before facing a staryu is a bless... I agree there is a lack of challenge but before emerald's battle frontier there was no challenge In any pokemon game so it's not a surprise. I welcome some of the new features but I despise the new candy system and competitive battling in this game, none the less it is a fantastic time waster before smash hits shelves.
I’ve been playing these two games since they came out. There still some of my favorite games just because of how fun yet simple and straight forward they are
I think the go park was an interesting addition it made catching 151 Pokémon way easier and getting the shiny charm far less of a chore. This game is easily summed up as an appetizer I think it’s enough to keep people interested long enough for the next core game to come out. Also like I said earlier since catching pokemon is easier with the go park shiny hunting is easier too and I think that’s awesome.
My first Pokemon was Pokemon Red on the gameboy classic, and I enjoyed it, but I became obsessed with Pokemon Yellow when it came out, even though it was essentially the same game, they added the elements of the anime series. It was the only game in which I filled the Pokedex, trading pokemon with other kids with the old cable system. Then my younger sister decided "she wanted to play" and my mum gave her the gameboy when I wasn't at home. One day I came home and switched my game on and I had a really heartbreaking experience when my sister had deleted my save. It's been over 20 years and I still bring it up sometimes XD. I only recently bought the Nintendo Switch and I think I'll definitely be playing this game.
Ember is a special attack, Onyx has high defense, not special defense. It would make sense to use a special attack rather than a physical attack on Onyx.
I understand the resistance. However, I'm still a little surprised by it. I mean... it's not like GameFreak was trying to keep this game's changes a secret. They haven't done anything to imply that these new mechanics are here to stay for future games. I'm hoping they'll listen to feedback and change what is unnecessary, trivial, or gimmicky. That being said, yeah, I was hoping for more. I do feel like GameFreak definitely held back. I got the Pikachu edition anyway and I am loving it! Admittedly, I'm biased to Pokemon, but still. For me, it's a placeholder. I never expected it to be the "next big thing," because like I said, GameFreak never marketed these games to be the next big thing. They're like an "on-ramp" for super causal Pokemon Go! players. Hopefully, they can rake in ultra-casual fans and get the hype going for next year's game. I'm being cautiously optimistic about next year's game. Pokemon fans are hard to please, though. Every new game gets some dose of insta-hate, and it's super annoying.
I'm still really skeptical of it; I loved Pokémon fights and knowing that it's only trainers now was disappointing to me. I think Game Freak made this to appeal to Pokémon Go players, and I love that! The more people playing Pokémon the better; Game Freak will have more money to make better/more games. I think this was more an experiment for them, while also being an attempt to grow the fan base. They needed to work on the engine of the game for the Switch. The only reason I'm not getting it is honestly just because I'm not a huge fan of Kanto. It was okay, I just never really enjoyed it and was disheartened when they announced it was Kanto. That being said, Game Freak did say that if it did well they'd do more of the games (remakes) like it. If they do I'd be first in line for Jhoto and Sinnoh.
@@kodywebb5619 Kudos to you for being so level-headed. I'm all for this game because of the reason you say: more money for GameFreak = better/more games (hopefully). If they do continue these "Let's Go" games, they could potentially release a new Pokemon Game every year (unless they start to release exclusively on the Switch, in which case, probably not). Honestly, the removal of wild battles wasn't as big of a deal to me, personally, as I anticipated it to be. It's not the same by any means, but it's not *bad*. I also agree that this was an experiment. There are some elements that I hope they keep, especially Pokemon in the overworld. That's just really immersive and makes encounters seem alive. I do not regret getting the game at all. Like you, I'm already a fan. Sure, there are things that I wish were different, but as the video said, it's video game "comfort food". That's a perfect analogy. I know what I got myself into, and I'm not salty about it. Honestly, my biggest problem with these games is the hate they're getting. I mean... if you don't think you'll like it, that's 100% fine! It's just funny to me how people appear to get unreasonably upset about the games.
@@mosiah9205 I think people are just worried. Even more by Trends in the Pokemon community like even more like even more hand-holding and nostalgia cuz I'll be honest I never want to see generation one for another 30 years
Yeah riding around on Pokemon is cool just they shouldn't have added the Pokemon go feature (Not battling wild Pokemon and needing to catch 3 billion Pokemon to grind.)
My older brother played the first generation and I came in during X and Y. He got me the game for Christmas and this has been a great way for us to hangout
I love this game! It's very relaxing and so nice to see Pokemon roaming around! Everyone should support Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee, so we can get a Johto Let's Go game!
I like how this game forces you to focus on catching pokemon. I'm always the kind of play to only catch a few pokemon my entire playthrough. I dont even have a full team until the last couple gyms, so it's fun actually trying to catch pokemon and going for new pokemon I dont have. i personally think this was a great one off type of game. it was good, but it doesnt really need to be repeated.
The catching thing is the really polarizing thing for me, along with few other things like how you can access your team pokemon bank from anywhere, and adjust your team. Its very handholdy and can't see that many situations where your stuck in a cave and like feel pressured or in danger basically ever. The game feels very safe and thats one of the criticisms. I have no problem with that outright I'm just concerned about how much of this design philosophy will be seen as "quality of life' and brought into the next installment next year. Thats my big concern.
I don’t have either yet. However, I have been thinking about getting Pokémon Let’s Go Eevee. I kinda wish that they had an option of battling wild Pokémon or capturing it.
Calling it right now, they WILL make the "Lets Go" game into its own series...If casuals jumped into the new core game right after lets go...I promise you, they WILL complain that it wasnt as easy as they thought. Me personally i'm TIRED of the nostalgia..I'm nostagia'd out...So many old school games getting remakes, and kanto...well, eh...It was cool the the 2nd run, but we've been through kanto liek 4 times now...it's really not a big deal anymore.
My wife had never played an actual Pokemon game before. I haven't completed a Pokemon game since Gold and Silver back in the day. I got this for my wife and I to play together (never used the actual multiplayer function though), and she absolutely loved it. I thought it was fun once I got past not being able to battle wild Pokemon, and it was pretty cool essentially playing the game I fell in love with back in the 90's with updated graphics.
I expected a faithful adaptation of old school pokemon into a 3D world, but it's kind of annoying how every new Pokemon game has more handholding than the last one. You can breeze through the more recent stuff without breaking a sweat.
@@carlsadventures1804 At times but nothing like Red and Yellow, and even Crystal and Gold where you can get brutalized for choosing either Charmander or Chikorita, and the game doesn't even tell you where to get the HMs or where to go next.
Picked up Eevee, having a great time. I’ve got small children, and being able to play a new game with them that I am already an expert at is making it a delightful introduction to video games, the Pokémon universe that I enjoyed as a kid, and is all around an enjoyable bonding experience with the limited co-op function. There’s a enough here to find some of the deeper mechanics, but also enough for a pre-schooler to enjoy.
Having a opinion is being a hater apparently, I traded it for another game it’s that boring and I’ve done everything and I don’t feel compelled to collect them all Idk wasn’t for me but I’m not gonna call people that disagree with the games choice of directions haters like some idiot
It's not bad though! I'm a huge Pokemon fan and super into the core series. I bought both bundles of Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee with the Pokeball Plus and I love them. The catching system can get annoying... and breeding was taken out... But everything else is spot on and still there. So I'm enjoying it. Absolutely love that you can see the wild Pokemon walking and flying around!
Thanks for your review. I felt it was very honest and thorough, and you managed to do it all within 7 minutes. Reviews like this actually inspired me to go back into Pokemon. I haven't played since the original Pokemon Red/Blue/Green days. And yet, taking this game out for a spin was such a blast. They did revamp how to approach battle, granted that we don't actually battle wild Pokemon, but rather catch them. However, I think this was Nintendo's attempt to take elements of Pokemon GO as well as target the younger generations as well. This is a family friendly and less grindy game. I feel it was focused on adventure, catching Pokemon and interactive play. This was at the trade off of alienating those who loved the older generation games. Again, it was reviews like this that inspired me to play Pokemon: Lets go Eevee! I have a let's play on my channel and I encourage people to watch it to see the mechanics of the game and have fun while doing it. Thanks once again for the review.
@@Therealpoetonce You're welcome! I would give it a solid 8. I was actually hoping for voice acting, and that's my biggest gripe. But that's actually relatively minor. Overall, the game is good.
I didn't originally plan on buying this... but then I saw a used copy for sale in my local GameStop. Who trades in a Pokemon game in 2019? This thing may actually gain value lol. Anyway, I've been pleasantly surprised. I'm a gen 1er that mostly plays new Pokemon games for the new environment, moves, etc. I don't breed, so that doesn't bug me, but I do like the turn based combat in that JRPG "comfort food" sort of way. I wouldn't have minded the changes to encountering wild Pokemon as much if the trainers had more than 3 Pokemon. Most only have 1 or 2, and that goes for a lot of your rival battles too. I'm left yearning for more combat. Rematches akin to Silver and Gold would have been a great end game activity for those of us not interested in fighting the Pokemon Masters. Like, I have no interest in battling Caterpies and Magikarps. Other than that, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the game was pretty well balanced for both leveling and awarding money/Poke balls.
I really hope there's a compromise in catching mons in the 2019 game. I didn't like seeing pokemon in the over world at first cause I thought it took away a lot of the challenge in finding rare mons, but I think it makes the world look more alive. Still really not a fan of the motion controls so I hope it returns to traditional catching, or gives you the option to choose between the two
Jackson Mulgrew I think that gen 8 should have a mix of both encounter methods, with common Pokemon in the over world and rarer ones from random encounters
Im absolutely fucking loving it, it’s a breath of fresh air to have something extremely simple out of Pokémon. It’s something I do when I’m super bored or just not feeling great and I love it.
I have played since Pokemon came out and I enjoy every game that has come out and Pokemon Let's go Pikachu is no different for me. I really like the game. Sure it's different than the first ones that came out, but it's refreshing to me. The catching is something I have to get used to, but I still enjoy the game. Seeing the world I started out with in a different view and better graphics is amazing but yet I still feel young again. I do look forward to what comes next.
Same here man, I like how they switched (no pun intended) it up so you throw the ball, they are trying to get people to be active. To actually feel like they "are" the trainer, instead of just playing as a character.
This game is simply amazing! It's a breath of fresh air and a return to form at the same time. It's very faithful to original Yellow version. It's simplified, sure - no abilities or held items. I'm so excited to be playing a rather casual game where collecting is really important. I really don't get the hate for the GO mechanics. It takes less time to grind by catching than it does to battle like you used to, but you don't get to play that type matchup battling game. Stop bitching about the flaws because this game is buttery smooth and charming as fuck
The issue is that everyone seem to be forgetting that this isn't exactly a main line game. It's just to hold everyone over till they get the main line PoKémon game out next year. They would've probably had a main line game out sooner, but they didn't think the Switch was gonna do well, so they held off. It's just the fact that people forget that this isn't meant to be a mainline game that is the root cause for all the hate. It's simplified and dumbed down because it was quickly put together, and honestly just a holdover. Even despite that, it's a pretty good game. Hell, most the people who've actually played it seem to enjoy it a good amount, and most of the people who trash on it have clearly not even done a little bit of research on it and are just taking it all at face value.
I agree Jacob. This reviewer should have done a better job. This game is the best Pokemon game ever made and is everything we ever wanted. I'm a seasoned Pokemon fan and I love to play this more laid back RPG after a year of intense RPGs. Pokemon was never hard (x attack up items), you can now do less exp grinding, more catching and a way easier time adding new Pokemon to your team. It doesn't drag on forever either like some RPGs, and the time you do spend in Let's Go is a ton of fun with your Pokemon. No held items and abilities were a good design choice as it becomes easier for newcomers to get into the game. Luckily IGN did a good review of this game already.
@@KalarMar thank god gen. 8 wont be like lets go. Give me my core game...theyll make a series out of the let's go game I'm sure so you can enjoy that while I enjoy the traditional games.
@@megamegaO I can't recall anything being confirmed other then that they are working on a new gen. Oh and Let's Go is a part of the series mainline games. This is what the devs themselves have said. It makes sense since its a lot like the original red/blue/yellow.
What I want? 1. My unique Pokemon team, early. (Variety of beginner pokemon you could catch) 2. Exploration that rewards. (Maybe catch a Pokemon no one would have found elsewhere?) 3. Co-op / open world. (To compete with your rival, to battle together against the bad guys etc.) 4. A real journey for you to really grow into a fine pokemon master! ( Or maybe something else?) 5. Customization. (Really get your own character going, not like the last few games...) If these 5 could go into a game on the Switch... I would be in love. The last few games felt underwhelming. They were good looking, but got bored soon. To be able to have Snorlax, Mug, Gangar, Primeape, Starter Pokemon and Magmar, was pretty dope though.
Though I do agree with most the points brought up, there's one key thing about this game that nobody else seems to have a problem with, that being the partner you're automatically given at the start of the game. To start, this is more or less a story issue rather than an actual game issue, but still, as it is an essential part of the game, but the friendship that you're meant to have with your pikachu/eevee felt incredibly forced. "Hey, they like you so much they're just gonna hang around on you literally everywhere you go so that you can't communicate with them like you can with other pokemon you catch and establish a more mutual bond with them." I'm a hardcore HeartGold/SoulSilver person, so I guess I was really expecting that type of relationship in-game. I'm aware that's not a sound reason to buy or not buy a game, though it still heavily disappoints me that I ended up really hating my eevee just because of how much she butted in every second she got (I could've learned a move! ME! A _TRAINER!!_ But NOOOoo, eevee's SPECIAL. Ahem. Repressed rage, sorry). Other than that, yeah, pretty chill game, 7.3/10
@@arthurbaker1592 lots of us just want a regular Pokemon game which seems like the 2019 game will be. I've played all but I'm skipping this one...just doesn't appeal to me especially the way you catch Pokemon. It just doesn't look challenging at all.
The system is actually perfect for it but know whats even better a full hardcore pokemon on mobile. That will be the day. heck Ill pay $15 to 30 bucks for a full pokemon game on mobile easy.
@@teddies1992 so you want pokemon to have a dark souls difficulty or what? Its a simpler version, I've played most of the pokemon games and this one seems ok.
just within the last year i got into pokemon through pokemon go. pretty excited to get into it with this game. i bought the brilliant diamond without research and realized it was sinnoh region, and i wanted to get a game that was kanto. this game looks right up my alley, and it’s got that “compatibility” to pokemon go
This game seems to be a step back for the series. The bones are there, but that all. It's been stripped down, padded and covered in nostalgia bait. It Looks good, but that's all. I'll wait for the next one. I want them to shake up the formula BotW style. Make it open-world, more movement and exploration, and a more in-depth combat system. Maybe the combat could be a hybrid of Xcom and Fire emblem. Throw all you pokemon out at once, co-ordinate attacks, flanking maneuvers, that sort of thing TL;DR The game is stripped down too far with pokemon go stuck on it. Not meant to appease the old hands, but still doesn't exclude.
Disagree. This game is great for what it is. You're entitled to your opinion, of course.. but I think you're wrong about it being 'stripped down and covered in nostalgia bait' lol. It has a ton of great changes & additions.
They literally changed formula with go catching and we needed kanto remakes more than sinnoh because fire red and leaf green are more outdated Ps: they will never make open world pokemon game just saying.. This game is what i actually wanted, pokemon go in main series and kanto remake and got it 2in1
I've been a near-lifelong pokemon player and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed a newer, more colorful runthrough of the game! Very simple and VERY easy, don't get me wrong. Either version! However, no regrets. Let's Go Eevee is the slightly easier version because of Eevee's versatility, but Let's Go Pikachu has the greater share of nostalgia fuel. Oh...if you want a female...you will have to erase your game data immediately upon exiting out, because that is determined from the moment the game boots up and you see Pikachu or Eevee's tail. You can't save and reload to get a different gender. It's determined from new game startup.
Who else remembers spamming the B button to make sure they didn't bust out of your Pokeball on the Gameboy games? Did that ever really help?
Nope. But it just felt good to do. 😁
I still believe that to this day it was the difference between catching them or not if you held the b button to catch. Even roaming through Alola I still do that when catching pokemon.

@@OxKing Relaxo ist nicht der englische name, sondern Snorlax

Matt Heitmann D/P, nuff said.
Is not what I wanted*
@Daniel Samolewicz The top pro players who hack their pokemon?
My pros and cons:
Pros
- Pokemon spawning in the overworld was a great addition.
Cons
- I was personally a big fan of the battling wild Pokemon system to catch them.
I'm so glad I looked it up before buying it... I know for sure I would have hated it in so many levela just because if that leveling system
I don’t understand why people have opinions either? Why don’t They mindlessly like somthing?
This game was great. I’m not a go fan but I haven’t enjoyed a Pokémon since diamond and pearl, this was something new with something old, a perfect refresher for the Pokémon series IMO

One reason they dont make demos like they once did is becuase they lose money and credit for sales. Instead they put out the game, People buy it, dont like it, return it. The store loses the money sale, but the company that makes the games keeps the sale, and credit for sales. Rather you keep the game or not it still counts as a sale on their end.

Sullir Yeah... no. I played with my friend on his version and im kinda glad I didnt bought it. No offense to anyone who has a wholesome expirience with these games though.
Agreed
Having been injured and unable to play Pokémon go and an old school yellow player stuck inside most of the day this is kinda epic and pretty much made for me. Go was kinda boring after two years so this will be a good easy welcome back warm up for the “real” game coming next year!
This game looks amazing. I love the art style and the new models and character designs. But i dont think that justifies 60 bucks.
"I want to play a game about catching them all but when one of the gyms requires you to catch a handful of Pokemon thats where it dies for me"
loool
That’s the slogan used to sell merchandise. Most Pokémon players either play it in a semi competitive way or a casual way. Not a lot really give a shit about catching them all.
Just transfer those useless pokemon thats why transfer was made lmao
That fuschia city gym requierment wasnt that bad (sorry my english xd)
I’m a gen 1 person but this is amazing we are still talking about Pokémon in 2018
yep, Gen 1 for lIfe, theres only 151 pokemon , not more not less hahaha
Pokemon is an incredibly powerful franchise after all. It's nowhere near as popular today, but it's effects are still lasting.
Was it just me or when he said you can play it with yer eyes closed I thought of Brok?
I just got this game, it's soooo much fun. First Pokemon game was Diamond, played every one except Gen 1 and Gen 2. So, yeah it's fun for me, bc I've never played it.
Changing from grinding battles to grinding catches is strange but honestly makes the game feel different enough when switching from trainer battles to wild encounters. It feels like "hey, I just caught this new Ghastly, let's have a battle!"... Which is exactly like the TV show.
The motion controls for throwing pokeballs are rather frustrating
I thought so too, but then I bought the PokeBall Plus, and I loved it.
Can you turn them off at all? I cannot do motion controls to save my life.
bro you literally just flick the controller. It works well, too, especially in the early game where you can make it assist you
@@HazmanFTW In handheld mode you don't need them. Can't turn them off in console mode sadly
Using handheld mode to catch pokemon is wayyyyyyy better than in docked. You dont even need motion controls
the lack of wild battles didn't ruin the game for me at all... there is enough battling in the game to be fair so I'm not missing it at all... also the pokemon on the overworked make the game more alive than ever before, choosing your catches instead of just roaming mindlessly killing tentacools before facing a staryu is a bless... I agree there is a lack of challenge but before emerald's battle frontier there was no challenge In any pokemon game so it's not a surprise. I welcome some of the new features but I despise the new candy system and competitive battling in this game, none the less it is a fantastic time waster before smash hits shelves.
I hope to god the next game is a reboot of Gold/Silver/Crystal! That is by by my favorite generation
Nah man, a remake of diamond, pearl and platinum
Gold is by far the deepest OG pokemon game
What does deepest mean
They made Soul Silver and Heart Gold years ago, you're a bit late bud.
I’ve been playing these two games since they came out. There still some of my favorite games just because of how fun yet simple and straight forward they are
Can u load the Pokémon u catch on your phone to your switch?
Too late.
And I don’t regret it
I regret un poco
This is all I wanted as kid playing Pokémon red on the gameboy to see them move as they fight. It’s crazy thinking back to those days
Lol so nobody gonna talk about how he used ember on an onix lol
He was going for that 10% burn
20 damage for Scratch, 30 damage for Ember after STAB and resistances. Bet you feel smart.
burn is worth the effort
Ember is a special attack, Onyx has high defense, not special defense. It would make sense to use a special attack rather than a physical attack on Onyx.
YEAH IM PISSED ,what an idiot am i right
I understand the resistance.
Even more by Trends in the Pokemon community like even more like even more hand-holding and nostalgia cuz I'll be honest I never want to see generation one for another 30 years
I’m actually glad they got rid of the bikes ,riding on Pokémon makes more sense! The game is called Pokémon no Bikethon.
lol ahhahahahhha
Yeah riding around on Pokemon is cool just they shouldn't have added the Pokemon go feature (Not battling wild Pokemon and needing to catch 3 billion Pokemon to grind.)
Michael Cox well it was on the gameboy, they probably weren’t able to do that.
"got an emphasis on catching Pokemon which is a flaw to me"
Oh I forgot the motto was
"Pokemon gotta EV and perfect nature them all"
still playing pokemon GO and soulsilver (DS) now, can't wait to play this one!

Do you recommend it?

Though the pokemon look pretty creepy and it's just a combination of Mystery Dumgeon games Red and Blue. Lol
Well
You're about to get that wish soon pokemon mystery dungeon DX is going to be released for the switch sometime next month. 👍👍
Rimuru sun and moon was challenging at times

I'm getting eevee as well hope your kids love it 👍
I would be sooo, so happy if the did a Silver/Gold/Crystal version.... loved those games
Surprised to see so many positive comments. The game user reviews are slammed with mass negative reviews as much as Fallout 76.
Blind haters
Having a opinion is being a hater apparently, I traded it for another game it’s that boring and I’ve done everything and I don’t feel compelled to collect them all Idk wasn’t for me but I’m not gonna call people that disagree with the games choice of directions haters like some idiot
this game is fun as shit
It's not bad though! I'm a huge Pokemon fan and super into the core series. I bought both bundles of Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee with the Pokeball Plus and I love them. The catching system can get annoying... and breeding was taken out... But everything else is spot on and still there. So I'm enjoying it. Absolutely love that you can see the wild Pokemon walking and flying around!
this game could seriously have been amazing if they stuck to the original games formula
Thanks for sharing. What would you rate this game overall so far?
@@Therealpoetonce You're welcome! I would give it a solid 8. I was actually hoping for voice acting, and that's my biggest gripe. But that's actually relatively minor. Overall, the game is good.
I want a remake of red, blue and green to have only one original starter pokemon
When you watch these types of videos AFTER you’ve boughten the game
the old guy peeking through the window of the Celadon city gym is now PC... i can not forgive that!
Since I never really have played anything newer for Pokémon than silver and gold and was a huge fan of red and blue this game is absolutely perfect!

Still worth the chance to try. You just might like it. At least all og 151 are here plus variants and 2 new ones if you played Go.
Glad I watched this. Not being able to battle wild Pokémon is where I was totally lost on a sale.
It's simplified and dumbed down because it was quickly
put together, and honestly just a holdover. Even despite that, it's a pretty good game. Hell, most the people who've actually played it seem to enjoy it a good amount, and most of the people who trash on it have clearly not even done a little bit of research on it and are just taking it all at face value.
"breath of fresh air: except that we've been to Kanto 3 times already before this game...
I was wondering if they can update it, like being able to go to different regions to get more newer Pokémon IDK?
What I want?
1. My unique Pokemon team, early. (Variety of beginner pokemon you could catch)
2. Exploration that rewards. (Maybe catch a Pokemon no one would have found elsewhere?)
3. Co-op / open world. (To compete with your rival, to battle together against the bad guys etc.)
4. A real journey for you to really grow into a fine pokemon master! ( Or maybe something else?)
5. Customization. (Really get your own character going, not like the last few games...)
If these 5 could go into a game on the Switch...
"Hey, they like you so much they're just gonna hang around on you literally everywhere you go so that you can't communicate with them like you can with other pokemon you catch and establish a more mutual bond with them."
I'm a hardcore HeartGold/SoulSilver person, so I guess I was really expecting that type of relationship in-game.
Well.... There's always next year.... I hope

Throw all you pokemon out at once, co-ordinate attacks, flanking maneuvers, that sort of thing
TL;DR The game is stripped down too far with pokemon go stuck on it. Not meant to appease the old hands, but still doesn't exclude.
Disagree. This game is great for what it is. You're entitled to your opinion, of course.. but I think you're wrong about it being 'stripped down and covered in nostalgia bait' lol. It has a ton of great changes & additions.
@@theSato I agree, it's just different enough and charming enough in what it adds that it feels like it's a worthy remake.

Ps: they will never make open world pokemon game just saying..
This game is what i actually wanted, pokemon go in main series and kanto remake and got it 2in1
I disagree. This is still a kid game, and a complicated battle system would have the company lose its kid audience.
