Tommy Cooper - two bits - HQ

- Here are two pieces of business from The Maestro of Magical Mirth. My favourite Tommy Cooper story concerns his habit of carrying a pocket full of tea-bags. Not for drinking, but rather for pressing into the palms of those who opened doors for him - along with a murmered, "'Ere you are - 'ave a drink on me."
He wasn't mean - he just loved to make people laugh. And as the doorman would open his hand, expecting to see a folded pound note, when he saw the tea-bag, 99 times out of 100, he would burst out laughing. Tommy LIVED for that. And of course, the tea-bag was worth INFINITELY more than a pound. The doorman would have a story he could tell EVERYBODY - and a memory beyond price.
People used to love watching Tommy Cooper for the hilarious, timeless comedy, often completely overlooking the BEAUTY of his magic tricks. The way he would fumble and mess up even the most simple of illusions and then "accidentally" make something work. Sublimely clever - he really was a Master of his Craft.
The hoop trick, the thing is if you pay attention, when they hit the deck they did "fall apart in front of your eyes" as you can see one rolling.
No matter how bad of a day I've had he always cheers me. I love his laugh and his beautiful soul
Me too x
So do I love him
He was absolutely brilliant. A master at comedy and tricks that went wrong. Nobody can match him today. I miss him. such a nice guy too.
The ONLY person who could walk on stage, do NOTHING and get a laugh. GENIUS!
So true...............we all know about his bad habits but dont most of us have them............He makes my belly ache Classic comedy
tears in my eyes we miss him dearly
For those who dont know him he was brilliant. Very underrated because he answered to no one. True comic genius.
Underrated ? By who ?
I read an article in the sunday times that critics hated his act because there was no magic in them. Go figure, because he was actually a member of the magic circle for life.
@@eddiekingham Random critics sharing their personal opinion on a professional entertainer (and getting paid for it). No wonder we'll never know who they are
@@ElvarMasson agreed elvar. Cooper is one of my favorites.
Grossly overrated. Hes not 1 bit funny
I remember watching this when I was younger made laugh so much still makes me laugh...Love ❤
Tommy could go on stage and say nothing, but the audience would be in stitches, his fooling around, his patter etc was impeccable, gone but not forgotten, RIP Tommy!
Just shows that his audience is easy pleased - they would laugh at anything. "Comedy" void of any real talent or foundation.
The way he throws the rings on the floor at the end has me in stitches and I've watched it three times in a row and still laughing.... irreplaceable master comic.
Comedy genius, the late great and amazing Tommy Cooper ♥️
My favorite British comedian!!! A comic genius! Sad the way he died but he died doing what he loved!!! RIP TOMMY I KNOW YOURE IN HEAVEN MAKING THE ANGELS LAUGH---
it's sad but beautiful, he died doing what he loved
It's sad that I first found out about him through his infamous death, but I'm new to his material, and I'm every bit as entertained by him as I would be by Penn and Teller or Amazing Jonathan. RIP kind sir. I'm glad I found out about you.
No smut........just great talent.....
it takes a master to get the trick supposedly wrong and entertain the audience and at other times throw in a sudden twist to the trick at the end. No outlandish gimmicks and dim lights but a good front of curtain stand-up routine. He must have had something for he was enjoyed by millions for decades
Unique, nobody like him, still so much funnier than some of todays "comedians"
Loved him never again will we see genius like this
We might
Never my friend
You loved him never again ?
@@ElvarMasson what are you trying to say
@@ciaranmccormack5146 Say ? What do you mean ? I haven't said anything
That woman's laugh is epic funny Genuinely destroyed with laughter.😘
the first trick shows everything that was great about the man. milking it for every laugh he could find. all he's doing is ripping up bits of crepe paper ffs! and, then, at the end, he brings the house down simply by getting it right...
genius - not just of comedy but of ALL aspects of front-of-curtain performance. the timing, the looks, the interaction with the audience, the looks into the wings... everything about him was special. there will never be another!
He was one of the true giants. And no other magician brought a great happy smile to our faces and our hearts. I am not sure, whether there is a heaven, but if there is, I am sure Tommy Cooper will male angels laugh, maybe even him, you know who...
You are bang on point. He was a genius.
@@WalterJoergLangbein i am absolutely certain that tommy is keeping the almighty very well entertained! well said, sir!
100 % agree., he was and still is one of a kind
TC was a one-off. Nobody before or since has matched his comic timing.
At the peak of his powers, no comic could touch him. Even when he had
that tragic fatal heart attack onstage in 1984, he made it look like a comedy skit.
My favourite TC joke - "I went to see the doctor the other day. He said
lie on the couch, I want to sweep up!"
Tommy Cooper was a true immortal.
This man was brilliant!
Pure Genius
stunning
Just like that!
What a funny guy, you don't know what's coming next.
John Ferguson then you watch it again and STILL laugh
Genius.
A True Wizard of Magic and Comedy... Both Paul Daniels and Ali Bongo both remarked that it took exceptional skill to make a trick go wrong the way He did.
Genius is so apt for this guy ! 👍😀😀😀😀😀
I really miss the days when comedians were funny.
The word genius doesn't come close to describe him.

Legend.
I never looked at it that way. I didn't focus on it at all, until you pointed it out. Great info.
and his adhoc reaction on the laughing ( wichy-sounding ) woman is also hilarious (!) and sooo professional to have even 5 different reactions on her laughing by also(!) adhoc create a builsing up to a climax-joke ( a you're sitting, in stead of flying) and narrowing down the influence of her laughing eg just by a short look at her...
top professional
top quality
top engineered
top adhoc reactions
and 😂😂😂😂😂 the LIVING duck 😂😂
i even laughed in my sleep this night several times, so me woman/wife/girl hardly could get enough sleep 😂😂😂😂 ...
🤫🤫 Han 🤫🤫🤫!! 🤪🤭😂😂😂🤣😂😂🧐
the point was that HE was funny, not the jokes or routines. one of the few occurrences when a comic was funnier than the gags.
Tommy and Eric Morecambe only had to walk onto the stage and people were laughing already :)
So fine. Dear, dear you🎉
I must have been born in the wrong country, being American and finding this utterly hilarious. Would someone be kind enough to explain the Oliver Hardy running gag to me, though?
Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy were Tommy's biggest influences along with Bob Hope
@markhorneyuk - Yes. There was a woman who kept laughing louder and out of time with the audience.
In the business, it's a worse problem than HECKLERS - at least you can put them DOWN. But if you put down someone whose laughs are GENUINELY just out of sync with the main audience - said audience will think you cruel.
So you just have to try and RIDE it - as Tommy did!
davidwrightatloppers : I don’t think he rode it, he embraced it, used it to add to the act.
We need to go back to good tv shows like this not all the crap that’s on theses days
Very impressive 3D hologram of Oliver Hardy. Decades before Tupac at Coachella! LOL
Tommy all he had to do walk on stage and that would get you going that was enough
❤❤❤😂😂😂
Lmao 😂😂😂😂
Love Tommy, great stuff.
I watched two Videos of this guy and already can see the punchline of his jokes coming :/
Most of the time, that was the whole point ! :-)
The whole point of his act, it takes skill to get things wrong and still bring the house down. Tommy Cooper is the only comedian to date who's presence alone had people cry with laughter. That was the beauty of TC. A skill that cannot be practiced or taught but Tommy was born with it amd that is why he was and still is so loved by many
får latterkrampe av han der.
Why did you have to die Tommy why.. why you?
Verily funnybold.
Verily so
Master of disaster
Is he still aliv???????
No he died on April 15 1984 live on stage from a massive heart attack!

I don't get what's funny about this. Just confusing random sentence and weird magic tricks.
{return -1;} it's a British thing,you wouldn't understand
Return1. If anyone other than Tommy Cooper did this it wouldnt be funny. TC was great.
never liked this guy
German ? No sense of humour !!
