I just made some for my local shelter. I used an old flannel sheet for the outside. I tried some cheap pillow cases but they seemed very flimsy. I’ve also cut up an old mattress pad to make the inner pillow and then put the flannel case over that. I used a bunch of batting scraps tossed in with the fabric scraps to make it a little bit fluffier. I have some older fleece blankets I plan to use for the covers on the next batch. I like the idea of using denim, very durable. Owen is adorable.
That's fantastic! Adding batting scraps for extra fluffiness is a smart idea. Fleece blankets for covers sound cozy! And thank you for the compliment about Owen. He appreciates it! Also thank you very much for giving shelter to those dogs 💜
I have a friend who gives me lots of fleece to make kennel quilts. I donate them to local rescues. They are easily washed & dried. Especially good for kitties who don’t tear them up!
That's fantastic! The durability and ease of care of fleece make it such a practical choice, especially for our furry friends who need a cozy space to feel safe and comfortable. Keep up the wonderful work!💜💜
If you added a zipper at one end, the contents (scraps] could be washed along with the outer cover when the bed gets dirty or smelly. That way, this bed could last a very long time. But this video is a great idea and I love your little dog too.
What a brilliant idea, I,m going to get started. Thank you for sharing. We have a cat and dog shelter near us, i'm already crocheting and knitting blankets for puss cats, but these would be good for the dogs. ❤ Carry on your good work Linda xxx
Thank you so much, Linda! 😊 I’m so glad you’re inspired to get started. How wonderful that you’re already making blankets for the cats-those dogs will be lucky to have some of your creations too! Keep up the amazing work, and thanks for sharing your kindness with the animals! ❤
Aw you are amazing, I have crochet a lot of large blankets for our local animal shelter, but I can sew, so I am watching your video to get ideas. Thank you for sharing. ❤❤
I have two rescue dogs (suffering from PTSD I'm sure) and one LOVES having a bed and not sleeping on concrete for the first time ever. But the other keeps destroying them so i'm going to make myself a supply. I can even use the scraps from destroyed beds and remake them. Yesssss....Those suitcases of no-good-for-nothing old clothes that I could not bring myself to through away finally have a use!! 🙌🏽😀 🎉
What a great idea! It's awesome to repurpose old clothes and scraps from destroyed beds to make something so useful and meaningful. Your dogs will surely love their new beds, and it's so satisfying to give those materials a second life! 🙌🏽😀
Thank you for the video! I am going to make my shelter some of these. I am a Quilter and end up with lots of scraps! Thanks for the inspiration! (Owen is adorable!) ❤
Hi, what a wonderful idea! I have tons of felt fabric left that I used to make quiet books for my grandchildren. I am thinking about sewing beds to donate to the Humane Society, is it desirable to use felt? Should I only use it as padding to add warmth or also as the main fabric? I would deeply appreciate your input/feedback. I think that desired sizes are 12x12 in., 24x24 in. 36x36 in. Thank you for any ideas!
Hi there! What a thoughtful idea to repurpose your leftover felt fabric for such a noble cause! Using felt for sewing beds to donate to the Humane Society can be a fantastic idea, as felt is generally durable and provides some warmth and comfort for the animals. Using felt as both padding and the main fabric can work well. For instance, you could create a sturdy base using a thicker felt as the main fabric, and then layer softer, thinner felt as padding for added comfort. Alternatively, you could use felt solely as padding and choose a different, more durable fabric for the exterior if you're concerned about wear and tear. As for sizes, providing a variety like you mentioned (12x12 in., 24x24 in., 36x36 in.) is excellent, as it accommodates different sizes of animals and allows for flexibility in their use. Overall, your contribution will surely be appreciated by the animals and the Humane Society alike. Thank you for your generosity and compassion!
@@SewingandtheCity thank you! I just found a bunch of fleece and flannel in my stash, so I will use the felt as padding, like you suggested. I can't wait to get started!

Great!! thanks a lot! Owen is a very good partner 😍💜
I've been waiting for this video! Fabulous idea 💡❤🐶 I usually save most of my scraps but will be cutting everything small for padding from now on 😊
I'm so glad!! They really are so satisfying to make and give 💜🐶 Happy scrappy sewing!
Hi. This is great. So much good info. Could you tell me about the cutter you’re using?
Thank you! It's the Texi Zorro 110💜
Wouldn’t scrap beds take a long time to dry? Shelters have a lot of launder to do.
How do you keep the stuffing from clumping ? Is this washable?
You can shake them a bit to distribute the stuffing as needed. It's washable but also I know my shelter uses blankets on top and washes those 💜💜

Hi! What type of sewing machine do you recommend for this type of project?
Hello! Any basic sewing machine would work perfectly for that💜
