  • Off to Vietnam on this #FishyFriday! In my search for the most sustainable seafood all around the world my partner Harm Jan and I are taking you to Can Tho, a small village in the south of Vietnam. The local community of small scale shrimp farmers here has collaborated to gain sustainable certification. An impressive movement! I’m really taking in consideration that the world population is growing. Farming seafood in a sustainable way can be one of the solutions to feed the planet. Watch this documentary on this wonderful Vietnamese community to learn more on sustainable shrimp farming.

Interesting and very clever, there seems to be a greater need for these community cooperatives to feed the ever increasing world population. Good to see other members of your team in action as well as yourself Bart. I have made last week's tuna and vegetable lasagne, a perfect replacement for our lost recipe. Very much like the addition of the red wine vinegar in the tomato sauce. Also have your cooking with tinned fish book, looking forward to cooking my way through those recipes.

That's great to hear Gary. Love the fact you are supportive of this video, and my team and I exploring more options around the world. Thanks! And of course also lovely to read the recipe made up for the lost one. Always nice to read your comments and have you on board. See you next Fishy Friday!

Man. I know it's maybe not possible, but I would be so interested to see a deep dive over a few videos about the entire project. Maybe some more about the science and planning that goes into fishery management, then what that looks like on the community level with farmers banding together. Haha iono if you could make it interesting. But, appreciate the video all the same!

Thanks Cyrribrae! I highly appreciate that you took the time to express what you'd be interested in to see. I'm defenitely taking this with me and will think about it. It'd be great to make a 'next episode' on our project here. I'm really glad to read you're so interested in the sustainability and the project here in shrimp farming. Great! Thanks again for your message. Cheers!

Hi Lara, thanks for your positive response! These shrimp at this point are only available in Fish Tales seafood boxes. Those are frozen seafood 'papillottes' that you only have to put in the oven at home. We sell them in Germany and The Netherlands, in the supermarkets. Where are you located? Thanks again for your great response. Very much appreciated. Best regards!

@heartbreakmanNo.1 This was great, I been tryin to find out about "how to raise freshwater shrimp at home" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Eenva Harrowing Eradicator - (do a search on google ) ? It is an awesome exclusive product for discovering how to start a shrimp farming business minus the hard work. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my brother in law got great success with it.

I don't understand why their ways of farming is sustainable. You didn't even talk about how their methods are different than others. What is ASC certification? What does this do? What are they taught? How does their farming practices differ from other non ASC farms? Cmon, if you're gonna make a video, at least do it properly. Stop misleading others with your claim of sustainability.

So I and everyone, wants to know that every one of those shrimp farmers DO NOT USE any ANTI - BIOTICS in those dirty outdoor pools. I need your personal 100% guarantee of this as a UTube poster.
Just be honest,..................I as well as everyone else are waiting for your response.

A simple search on Google ASC certification would ease all your concerns, but that would be asking you to do too much works right?

if you have to resort to "farming" sea life its already unsustainable. farming is simply the act of continuing an inherently unsustainable practice (within this context).

Hi Scott, it's not an advert. I'm actually really hoping to show people all around the world that farming fish - when it's done in a responsible way - can be a great addition to the supply of sustainable seafood. Hope you consider to have a look at it this way. Best regards :)
