Good greif..we are promoting high bacteria shrimp in 4 year old pool water and banning outdoor shrimp with one part per billion of nitroflourent. Tap water probably has more than that. Only in America.

Yea ikr, ethoxyquin being added to the feed to prevent fat from going rancid plus the pollution in the baltic sea and the pesticides used by the farms is really messing up the whole industry.

Though these shrimp might be anti biotic free. Look at what they are feeding these shrimp, its shrimp feed pellet. When you study and visit a feed mfg facility as i have and see where they get they there ingredients. Basically there bait fish from coastal purse seiners. These fish are never tested as there junk fish and have high levels of mercury and other bad ingredients. Thats why im staying away from all farmed shrimp. All i will do is cold water shrimp is pristine areas like near New Zealand. And besides farmed shrimp cant come close too to taste to wild shrimp.

I basically only eat Gulf Shrimp. I buy them regularly for $7.99 to 8.99. I do not eat Chinese or any other countries fish or seafood. I would eat U.S. produced farmed fish but only U.S. I think fish farming can be done environmentally friendly and in a non anti-biotics way. I fish off California and we have sardines and anchovies baitfish. There is nothing wrong with them. CA fish is safe and good to eat. Well as good as can be expected in this day and age.

I grew up eating seafood as many of my uncle's, ex fish. I noticed about 5 years ago, that if I eat seafood now. .it breaks me out on my face by my jaw area...like within 24 hours of enjoying baked salmon, or scallops, or fried whiting. I really used to enjoy seafood, and I even mourn not eating it anymore. But, I listened to my body.

I am concerned because I spent my whole life with the shrimp and stayed in my own shrimp farm for a few years before I retired. I even wrote this article "Eating shrimp may actually lower blood Cholesterol level" to promote shrimp eating in 2005.
"Nine out of ten persons I know of love seafood and especially shrimp. What most shrimp lovers fear is the high Cholesterol in shrimp that may produce artery-blocking plaques causing a heart attack. Even Doctors have been advising old people to avoid shrimp.
As with all seafood, shrimp is high in calcium and protein but low in food energy. A shrimp-based meal is also a significant source of Cholesterol from 7 mg to 251 mg per 100 g of shrimp, depending on the method of preparation.
What people generally do not know is that Shrimp Cholesterol actually reduces the bad Cholesterol in our body. And we can all enjoy shrimp as part of our balanced diet.
Cholesterol travels through the bloodstream in lipoprotein or known commonly as plump little fat and protein packages. The fat part of the Cholesterol is “bad Cholesterol” or low-density lipoprotein (LDL). The packages are “Good Cholesterol” or high -density lipoprotein (HDL).
Good Cholesterol would help to discharge Cholesterol into the liver for excretion and reduces total Cholesterol level in the bloodstream.
Cholesterol from food is harmful only if it is being absorbed by the body. And saturated fat such as meat, eggs and dairy foods help speed up LDL and Cholesterol absorbing process.
The high level of Cholesterol in shrimp, however, has only slight saturated fat (1gram per serving in comparing to 20 grams in beef). The Cholesterol in shrimp is also much harder to be absorbed than other high-fat food, although the reason is still unknown.
In the past, food scientist could not differentiate the different Cholesterol and measured them all as “Cholesterol”. Today we can detect Cholesterol in bad LDL and good HDL.
Eating shrimp will certainly increase the total level of Cholesterol in comparison to low Cholesterol diet. Yet, shrimp Cholesterol increases HDL significantly more than LDL and render a better Cholesterol balance between the two.
Food technologists have all agreed that a healthy diet may include shrimp. As with most foods, it is better to avoid deep-fried, limit oil amount, butter, tartar sauce, and mayonnaise."

Ok, know that I've recently been made aware of a lot of problems behind fish farming.
Based on what I've seen there, I will never ever again eat farmed fish.
But, it all leaves me with major questions about the safety of our food system. Like, can we trust the FDA or Health Canada to protect us and our children? It raises major questions.
How would this situation have been allowed to happen? I don't know. And I'm not about to tell you what politicians to vote for; they are probably all equally dire.
So, eat locally; go to farmers' markets, and if you can, grow local produce in your own garden, and take care of your kids' nutrition.

It's all now not a question of avoiding these unsafe foods, but indulging in them and hope that you live long enough to see your grand kids. It's a question of psychology. You eat the stuff and surrender to it and just enjoy it. Believe it to be tasty and good and give yourself the theatrics of a good meal. The poison will always be there, but your attitude and self trickery will allow you a modicum in the quality of the enjoyment. Just fully accept it and expect the consequences. There is truly no escape.

Best shrimp in the world? You are not serious? The best tasting shrimp are wild prawns caught at sea, Australian and Argentinian prawns. When eating farmed fish or prawns it’s not just the toxic water, but the fish meal fed to the stock that is highly contaminated with toxins and some cases radioactive! Read the report on farmed Atlantic and Baltic salmon and cod farms. In this age when you can Google everything there is no excuses for ignorance.

Finding water on the moon or on mars is not so much about a history of life there or something that would support a colony. Water is fuel to get further out into space. Rather than using up energy to carry that fuel all we need to take is the platinum to crack the water and come up with the oxygen and the hydrogen we need to go farther. Yes believe it or not water is fuel.

In America they first get negative input from the market and them legislate. The opposite is the situation in Europe. Their, first check the consumer risks and then allow the product to enter the market. The American approach is a bit "primitive". Market comes always first.

    Namaste,
Dear Santa Maria, is your name associated to Maha Kali?
about the shrimp with the antibiotics: the fact that most shrimp come from 3rd world countries mean that the country is poor. now, the questions are:
who is provides the antibiotics because a poor shrimp farm family can not afford the antibiotics? perhaps, find out who is providing the antibiotics and you can prevent forest fires?
    thanks, ETN...

i am sorry, forest fires was the wrong term.
i mean to use earthquakes & tsunami
      thanks, ETN...

since it is about shrimps: tsunami should be most appropriate term to use.
      thanks, ETN...

      Dear Santa Maria,
do you know about Guan Shi Yin? how about a Lotus Flower is born from the swamp waters? from my understanding, people do not marry virgins, they marry experienced whores who are righteous; example of Righteous Lotus Flower in a swamp. without the Righteousness.
      thanks, ETN...

The shrimps farmed in Asia do not taste good. I only eat Australian banana shrimps, safer and tastier.
