I haven’t even watched this yet…. But this is right on time… I’ve been really trying to get that really wide haas effect where my lead sound feels “outside” of the mix. I’ve been putting 2 utilities into an effect rack, panning one all the way left and one all the way right, it sounds about right with voxengo sound delay on one of them, but it falls apart horrifically in mono. I pray this is gonna be the answer to my month long quest for knowledge 😂 can’t wait to sit down and watch this as I know you really do know what you’re talking about🫶

I gotta vent because I'm a big mid-side processing hater lol. Nothing personal to the video, it was very informative.
But, listen to the A-B test at 11:28. To my ear, the unprocessed signal sounds wider than the processed one. The processed one is louder, but not wider. This is because when you modify the "side" signal in any way, an out-of-phase version of the right channel bleeds into the left channel, and vice-versa. sure they are out of phase, so it does give some illusion of stereo difference that is mono-compatible. BUT, if you have some unique timbre or harmonic information in only one channel, it now mirrors that into the other channel, giving a character that to me does NOT sound wider.
as a test, duplicate an instrument that is only playing a C-note in the left channel, and a G-note in the right channel, and bus them together. completely unprocessed, nothing can really be wider than that. but when you add mid-side processing and change the side in any way - louder, quieter, EQ'd, saturated etc - they bleed into each other. that's not wide, it's just weird!
Or, use MSED by Voxengo.
But if, you want to saturated the SIDE etc, great alternative
I don’t mean to be rude but it took you a long time to demonstrate. Like start the video and show the children how its done. People definitely want shorter tutorials but obviously not all the information you have to share can fit. Thank you for comparing the different plugins, that made it click for me

Had a chance to watch this now. It’s not what I thought it might be but it is amazing, honestly this is outstanding, even at the mastering stage I usually put Saturn on in mid/side and saturate the sides a little but this is such a better method that gives so much more control. Thank you for these videos they really do help a lot of people 🫡

I think it’s done with FM synthesis but I can never seem to get it quite right 😅

@@broteingk.4231 yeah I’ve used this on the master bus since then and was happy with the result. All I really did was a low cut on the sides and some saturation with decapitator
