How do you know how much water is enough? All pastas are different :/
@@lillypinska4305 Instant pot has basically no evaporation, so the ratio of water:pasta is just what the pasta absorbs. You can work it out from the dry versus cooked carbohydrates per 100g on the nutrition label.

Good recipe. Thank you! Also, I read under the warning booklet that warns against blocking the vent at any time.

How many mls is 4 cups of water? And what's the ratio of fluid to pasta, please?
I just cooked Angel Hair pasta, 2 cups of water, suppose to be 2 min but I forgot and went over 6 min, lol. It was dry when I opened it, no water but the pasta was PERFECT!
Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge.
You are very welcome! I’m so happy you enjoyed the pasta!
If I add one jar of pasta sauce, should I decrease the water? By much? And what’s the time for whole wheat pasta, do you know?
I never tried cooking it together with pasta sauce, I cook it with water only and then add pasta sauce after it’s cooked. If you try cooking with pasta sauce , please let me know how it turned out! I would decrease the water by the equivalent of 1/2 jar of pasta sauce and then add pasta sauce on top (without mixing the water) and cook for the same amount of time. Never tried it though, just guessing. For whole wheat, I’d increase the cooking time by 1 minute
I would still drain it. Thanks for the video. I love pasta but don’t like waiting for the water to boil. This is so much easier.
You are welcome! Some types of pasta absorb the water completely so there is nothing left to drain, others have some water left, in that case drain it
@@MelanieCooksRecipes I made linguine with your method, it worked perfectly. There was some water left but it was no big deal. I like how we can reduce water usage by half, which makes this method even better than other methods.
@@cgullworld I'm so happy you enjoyed it!
@@MelanieCooksRecipes I converted my sister in India too. She was impressed with the method also, quick-cooking, and less water usage.
Looking forward to trying this soon! Thanks. Super helpful. Although I can't help but tease and make the joke, "No need to drain." *Scoops pasta out from water with draining spoon thing* :)
Lol 🤣🤣 It depends on the pasta shape and brand, some have no water left with this method and others have some left (but the amount of water is minimal). Please let me know how it turns out! 😋
@@MelanieCooksRecipes It worked great! (I finally remembered to update you. Haha.) My household is trying to find all of the ways we can minimize the amount of work put in for food prep, so this is great, plus I work with people with autism and finding easier ways to make cooking more simple and safer is a huge win. I practiced this with one of the guys I work with and he loved it.
@@John3K21 thanks for the update! I'm so happy that this recipe worked for you!

Can I use the same steps for one pound of spaghetti?
Yes just break the spaghetti in half so it’s covered with water

hello Melanie i got this instant pot duo crisp for my birthday last year from my husband my birthday is in August and i told him i wanted one badly and i am always using it
Awesome! I also use my Instant pot all the time! And the air fryer too 😃
Hi how do i know how much water should i use if i dont want to use the whole bag of pasta?
Just enough water to cover the pasta

Thank you sis
You are welcome!
If I just want 0.25 pound of pasta would I just use one cup of water? Thanks
Use just enough water to cover the pasta. I’d also do 2 min pressure cook time (as it comes to pressure quicker with less water). I never tried cooking less then the whole box at a time, so please let me know how it turns out!
@@MelanieCooksRecipes thanks ill give it a try
it’s 2 cups of water to 8oz pasta so 1/4 c 4 oz would be 1 cup water…. If you try it let us know how it turns out
I'm trying this today
Awesome! Please let me know how it turned out! 😋
@@MelanieCooksRecipes Perfect. Whole wheat pasta.
@@R0yalBeauty77 I'm so glad you enjoyed it! 🤗
Thanks Melanie for the quick recipe!
Could you please tell me me what should be the ratio of pasta to water? If I take 2 cups of pasta, how much water should I use?
Use just enough water to barely cover the pasta
Is the cooking time the same for whole wheat pasta?
Yes
I saw another video that said if you cover the steam being dispersed from the top of the instant pot with a rag you can void the warranty so just let it release the pressure normally without it being covered
Thanks for the tip! My instant pot is 5 years old so it’s way past the warranty worries :)
Did you cook the pasta on LESS NORMAL OR MORE? Thanks
Normal
No messing video, I like it. I didn't add enough water in my first attempt, all stuck to the bottom 😄🤣. 4 cups of water it will be from here on out.
I’m so glad you liked the video!
I get so impatient with pasta and rice, my instapot arrived yesterday, looking forward to using it. Does anyone use the presets? 😄
Lol I never used the presets
Beautifully and simply done . Your a whiz !
Thank you so much, Eve! 🤗
Is it the same for egg noodles
yes
Big High Five Melanie🖐️ to me you are A-maze-ing Teacher, Thank You So So much🎊🎉
I have a riced veggies frozen 10 oz Green Giant Cauliflower and sweet potato can I put it in the
Ninja steamer or pressure cooker my air fryer is broken? I would appreciate your answer ((❤️🤗)) Theresa😀
You are welcome, Theresa! I have a video for Instant Pot frozen vegetables: ruclips.net/video/OqSPlRvr6eE/видео.html However if they are riced, they won't be the best if you put them directly in the water, I recommend putting them in a dish that fits inside the pressure cooker.
@@MelanieCooksRecipesThank You WOW!!!! ((((((((((❤️🤗)))))))))🎉🎊Enjoy Your your night 😀
Can you make Spaghetti your way in your instant pot without meat, Or With meat. I love how you cook 👩🍳. Simple. Cold weather is here and people love cooking Soups in instant pot, specially beginners, like me. Thank you very much. 👍👍👏👏🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Yes you can cook spaghetti in the Instant Pot, just break it in half so it fits under water, add 4 cups of water and pressure cook for 1 min (as it's thin and cooks quickly) and natural release for 10 minutes, then quick release. If you want to make it with meat, you can cook meat on Saute, then take it out and cook the spaghetti, then mix spaghetti with cooked meat and pasta sauce.
Does pasta need to completely covered with water?
Yes, otherwise parts that are not covered with water might end up undercooked
Came out awful
@@cmaur811 so sorry to hear! Was it overcooked or undercooked? Did you do 2 min pressure and 5 min natural release followed by quick release? What type of pasta did you use?
Quick question. You said "you don't even have to drain pasta", but every scoop of pasta coming out of that Instant Pot has water running out of it.
I've found that with pastas like elbow macaroni, shells (as you've done there, although it's a different name), and pastas of that size, it needs 4 minutes, and a quick release. Perfect, every time.
For the larger pastas (rigatone, ziti), it might still be 4 minutes, it might be 6, it might even go so far as 15. But the ratio is right. 1 lb/4 cups liquid (chicken or beef stock work too).
There was a little water left, but not much so draining is unnecessary, it would absorb completely if the pasta sat in the pot for another few min. You are right, it depends on the type of pastas, some absorb water better then others
One pound pasta to four cups water one tsp salt for two minutes. When done natural release of steam for five minutes. Then release steam button.
🤗
Use Better Than Boullion Chicken Broth instead of water...if you do, skip the salt.
Great idea!
How can I cook it with Alfredo sauce
I don't have a recipe for Alfredo sauce in the Instant Pot, but I have a regular stovetop recipe for homemade Alfredo sauce: www.melaniecooks.com/how-to-make-pasta-with-alfredo-sauce/3532/ You can cook pasta in the Instant Pot and then mix it with Alfredo sauce 😋
@@MelanieCooksRecipes thanks for replying. I'll try it
1/3 of pasta..... of what kgs or grams?. I tried your water measurements and it didn't work.
Sorry it didn't work for you! My box of pasta was 1 lb. You can use any amount of pasta, and add just enough water so it barely covers it.
@@MelanieCooksRecipes That's really the key to it.....just covering the pasta...
It's interesting to learn this way...I always did it for 5 or 6 mins & quick release.....this way sounds delightful.....I use diff't kinds of Rotini pasta...sometimes the release might be longer when certain types of
Rotini is used... Thanks again !
👍🏻🍝😋🙏🏼
Thank you 🤗🤗
Ok, but how do I heat up my sauce?
You can heat it up in the microwave then add to pasta
Nice video, but the instruction manual says to NEVER ever cover the sealing valve when depressurising. Its a safety thing, but also can damage the unit.
Thanks for the tip!
