@@anonymous_gaming8706 it’s probably because those two along with Chason Westmoreland don’t do swivel or heel toe. They just hunch over and blast em out.
Some of y'all should show some respect for the guy who wrote a shit-ton of great drum parts, has groove & feel for miles and laid the foundation for the band's sound. I'd put money on the fact that Rudinger (amazing drummer, btw) would pay respects to Cooper for that. Nitpicking comparisons of them are irrelevant and lame.
For all the Alex Vs. Lyle people, I've seen the faceless 3 times now, once in 2011, at this very show in 2012 and at a small venue this year with alex rudinger. You can not tell a single difference when it comes to the faceless. Alex rudinger is more famous and has i guess a bigger "resume" is what youd call it. But you have to remember the faceless is as good as they are because of the drums. Lyle has played a huge part in developing the faceless and for that i will miss Lyle. However with that being said I don't doubt Alex one bit especially after seeing them, they found an awesome replacement. So everyone STFU about alex and lyle now. they are both kick ass drummers in all aspects
nice! I dont understand how one can say "drummer A plays piece XY better than drummer B" when drummer B INVENTED the drums for the piece. Drummer A just plays what B played in the first place...
Yeah but lets be real, writing a part doesn't mean you're guaranteed to play it "best". I mean in this case, they're both amazing and do great. But there will always be cases of better drummers taking over. I mean shit, Travis Orbin plays for Darkest Hour now, and you KNOW Travis is just objectively a better player than their old drummer.
I just eish Lyle got more recognition. He really is a machine and one of my greatest drumming inspirations. I love Alex and he seems very diverse. But Lyle could do so much!
Alex is phenomenal. But I do notice he has a thing about slowing some songs down by a few bpm when he covers them. He did it with a Faceless song. He doesn't seem to be able to play stuff comfortably over a certain speed. He's more old school in his approach, of using mainly singles on the feet instead of doubles, to reach high bpms. Not that he's bad by any means at all.
At the :40 second mark you can see me standing recording this on my phone. I was having the time of my life on stage with these guys! Amazing performance! and Lyle was nice enough to take a picture with me after :) My vid of Xenochrist is on my channel btw. CHEERS!
Fucking agreed. Lyle, while not being amazingly technically proficient (compared to the likes of Alex etc.) has got such a great feel. He was perfect for Planetary Duality. One of the best DM records of all time for me.
Lyle was miles ahead of his time. Alex Rudinger and Aaron Stechauner are amazing in their own respect but Lyle put in the work to track these songs and set them in stone for others to learn.
Well he does tend to play with his eyes closed. I think Lyle may be a savant...you know those autistic people that can't tie their own shoes but are absolutely incredible at something else.
@@decimater75 Of course Alex can play it perfectly, but its not just about playing every note perfectly. Nobody will know those songs as intimately as Lyle and that comes out as passion in the song. Not that Alex doesn't play the songs with passion though...damn it really is hard to explain. All I can say is Lyle is responsible for writing some of the best drums to ever happen to metal on one of the best and most influential modern tech/prog death metal concept albums. Planetary Duality changed the game when it came out. Could you imagine any other drums written on this album? Would it be as important as it is? I can't, and I don't think so. I just wish the dude got more credit and recognition.
Wait if any of you are hating on him in this performance he’s CLEARLY pissed at the drum text for putting a fucking cow bell or some other piece down under his right Tom mic and he his it several times in the coming measure after about 2:30 and you can see him look around absolutely pissed and still crushes without missing a beat. Everyone should respect everyone they’re all fucking sick drummers, that tech was an asshole
Lots of stupid people in this comment section comparing Alex and Lyle and throwing some random bullshit on why one's better than the other. Both drummers are amazingly good and definitely can't be compared in a sense of who's better, they're on a league of their own.
Holllllly shhhsmokes! It’s humanly impossible to keep that stamina level for a full show.. how much time the faceless used to perform live.. 10 minutes??? 😂
I don't use Facebook, and i didn't said he is incapable to use dynamics.I said i haven't seen it from the things i heard from him.I pointed out "from what i heard".People are saying that he is better than Lyle so i decided to stand up for Lyle because he has done other than the fast metal drumming you can hear the fusion groove beats as well.He reminds me of a Dave Weckl metal version.
Is this a finish offered by Tama? I know the drummer for Ion Dissonance has it and I've never seen it elsewhere. Did they tour together at some point or something maybe?
Yeah but the ID drummer still uses the same kit he always has, so I am just wondering if this is actually his kit and he just offered it as backline for the show.
He's an outstanding and creative drummer!!!, amazing blend of power and groove....... Yet his posture is bad as fuck... not only for drumming, for any physical life activity, bro.
Saying "Alex hits always the same like a robot" has to be the biggest load of crap I have ever heard! Yes he hit's consistently where he is required to in a song with amazing precision. But by no means is he incapable of using dynamics around the kit, he is infact very capable and does it very well. Maybe you should watch some of Rudingers videos before you start chatting shit on facebook. Also I couldn't care less who's better, they are both great drummers in my book.
Alex might be better, but the way this dude play has so much heart & soul. Alex is too robotic. I prefer to watch this dude! That damn possessed face!!!
Better for people like you that don't know anything about nuance.Lyle is a much better well rounded drummer.Alex is good for metal and Lyle plays fusion beats also.Lyle is much better with dynamics,Alex hits always the same like a robot.
It's a dawn shame how Alex can play the song better then the original drummer.Listening to him and Alex. I have to say Alex doesn't get sloppy when the tempo Starts to go fast and he can still hit hard while going fast.
Malik Berry Alex is lame. Lyle has style. And comparing two drummers based on a recording of a life performance and one in the studio makes no sense. Look up Alex playing live with the faceless. He fucks up constantly.
Malik Berry you're absoluely wrong my friend, a dear friend of mine who live now in us is a professional drummer, he plays metal and he has a degree from berklee, he's a massive fan of the faceless and had the opportunity to see them more than twice. He told me both drummers are great, high level drumming , he told me lyle has more style while alex is too much a machine
+Malik Berry Listening to Alex play in a recording with a click track sounds great. Lyle has more years of experience over him. And playing live and playing in a recording are 2 entirely different animals. You move with the music when you play live.
+Malik Berry all i gotta say, is Lyle wrote this, Alex is simply playing what someone else wrote. Anyone can do that... Please take into the fact the amount of continuous shows Lyle has played up untill this show? Prob 200+ the entire year? Fucken get tired after playin that many man. The video you're comparing Lyle to is probably someone who's had ample time to practice and no amount of live shows that can compare to what Lyle's been playing
Yes. Alex is better. Look how he strokes, how he beats the drum. He plays more solid and heavier. I saw their blast beats too. Alex is more professional on doing it. Also, I like Alex Rudinger. He is my number 1 inspiration. I just can't think of a song played by a real human that Alex can't play on drums. Lol. Alex is the best drummer. Lyle is good too! Respect.
I saw Alex's video and I think he plays the song more effortless, but think that this is a live footage. I would not say that this drummer is worse than the other, we haven't got any proof of it.
xBaphometHx How to you define "Effortless"?Can you hear any mistakes or you are just thinking that because of his movements while he plays?Music is not to be looked at ,music is to be heard.Actually Lyle Cooper is a lot better drummer and can pull of a lot of fusion grooves on this heavy music.

This dude is a programmed machine. He just doesn't miss.
Anyone who can play a full show with the Faceless gets my full respect; Elliot, Nick, Marco, Lyle, Bret, Alex, Aaron and the 7 other dudes.
Yeah, this is Lyle Cooper. Kind of weird how him and Alex Rudinger do that lean forward thing anytime they play really fast double bass.
@@anonymous_gaming8706 it’s probably because those two along with Chason Westmoreland don’t do swivel or heel toe. They just hunch over and blast em out.

even at fast tempo you can hear the acoustic of the bass drum, really good drummer !
Dat posture tho
when lower back pain hits ya

CHEERS!
2:52 remains one of my favorite fills on the whole album, just accents so nicely i lve Lye's drumming so much. This album's drums were perfect.

alex rudinger is good but it feels like theres something special about lyle
His spine later in life.
IOutDoSyndicate that comment made my day
Well he does tend to play with his eyes closed. I think Lyle may be a savant...you know those autistic people that can't tie their own shoes but are absolutely incredible at something else.
Alex is cleaner than anyone (or at least as clean), but it’s always different hearing the person who wrote the parts play them.

phenomenal playing!!
sure is!
now this is more like it! much more dynamic than other performances ive seen of him..
This guy... jesus fucking christ... and so young! man i'm jealous :D

Amazing footage man! Thank you so much.
What a beast.
Alex did put his style to this cover and enhanced it indeed but, Lyle created this masterpiece
Lots of stupid people in this comment section comparing Alex and Lyle and throwing some random bullshit on why one's better than the other. Both drummers are amazingly good and definitely can't be compared in a sense of who's better, they're on a league of their own.

During their tour, The dates in Mexico weren't covered by him, I saw a pretty amazing perfomance of Alex Rudinger though.
Is this a finish offered by Tama? I know the drummer for Ion Dissonance has it and I've never seen it elsewhere. Did they tour together at some point or something maybe?
IT'S THE KIT THAT WAS SHARED SUMMER SLAUGHTER 2007...THEY HAD 2 KITZ
Yeah but the ID drummer still uses the same kit he always has, so I am just wondering if this is actually his kit and he just offered it as backline for the show.
Pretty sure the Faceless bought or was given the 2nd Custom Tama in the vid.
Nike should sponsor him because of that phenomenal foot work
One more thumbs up
No amount of amazing Lyle Cooper is going to save The Faceless from the Keene Machine....
Nike needs to sponsor this warrior-beast of a drummer!
"Omg his posture" - guy who's never sat at a drum kit his whole life
Coming from a guy who sort of has, it’s bad posture idk how he didn’t have back pain then (that’s if he didn’t)
He's an outstanding and creative drummer!!!, amazing blend of power and groove....... Yet his posture is bad as fuck... not only for drumming, for any physical life activity, bro.
one word...EPIC!
seen this video a lot of times, but only just noticed.... LOOK THE THE STOOL HE'S USING HAHAH anyone else find that completely INSANE ? ? ?
His skills outweigh his showmanship
There’s not really a millisecond where you can do any tricks lol
Wait he didn’t do the thing at 0:53 that Alex does :( I love that part
In my opinion I dont really care if Alex is better! My favorite drummer is (also) still Lyle Cooper!
I can't play very fast double bass :'(
Practice then.
Saurabh Misra well there may be a place for you in SLEEP..speed not necessary
Who's this 2 kids that dislike Lyle cooper? feel sorry for you guys..
What happened to Lyle now? Is he still drumming?
His youtube channel is "lylemang". Last upload was a mushuggah cover from 2 years ago. After the faceless, he tracked for an album by Abhorrent.
bad ass!!!
UNREAL! \m/
Thinking he could waist any drummer out thear 2023
Does anyone which Meinl china model is he hitting at 4:30?
*youtube, not facebook
Anyone know what kind of kit he's playing? Thanks
Does he only use heel up? It looks like he squeezes the bpms out of those pedals lol
But now they got M. Rudinger. This guy is a machine !
IDGAF, this dude is the new Lombardo and the new Hoglan as far as I'm concerned.
They walked so Lyle could run.
god
is that sam applebaum???
To everyone asking: alex rudinger is the new drummer. Lyle is a fucking beast though.. gonna miss his drumming.
Is Lyle the one to write these parts? Lots of people have played this track with this band, but who wrote the parts?
+dzarren I believe it was Lyle since he was the one who recorded the drums for Planetary Duality.
Was Keene.
It's the slightly black metal sam...with a twinge of death metal also :3

Rudingers techniques are more advanced than this guys when it's comes to The Faceless. What I like about this guy is that he is more of a solid hitter
Tama Starclassic b/b
I say "M." for Mister ;)
Alex Rudinger is gonna have some big shoes to fill.
WHAT?!?"
Oh, and you're*
Wasn't that nice of the vocalist to give them some props as it came up to the drum set? Talk about cold and shity
woh why!? =o
Alex might be better, but the way this dude play has so much heart & soul. Alex is too robotic. I prefer to watch this dude! That damn possessed face!!!
This is not the way i feel it. Both are amazing in my opinion. But of course kudos to Lyle because he wrote the parts !
Throne from a beginner kit...
I write "M." for "Mister", but nvm^^
i think alex kills it though, havnt seen them live but w/e
