    Instead of dremmeling out a new peg from the hair and risk shortening on the figure, you're better off just buying a hand drill set with a couple of bits and using brass wires to pin the parts together. It's also just a better idea in general to use something like epoxy instead of this bizarre super glue and baby powder solution, since super glue has a tendency to weaken plastics around it, like it or not.

    • @lightweed
      @lightweed 5 лет назад

      How are the drilled holes and brass wires plus epoxy all managed together? I have a figurine who is standing on one leg (haha like so many aminé girl figures) and now that leg is broken at its most slender point , the be-soxed ankle, and the two pieces won't even fit back together now, making glue alone highly doubtful. Any helpful suggestions?

    • @Xclann
      @Xclann 2 года назад +1

      @@lightweed Since you commented two years ago, not sure if this is still helpful. I have no experience, but my "theoretical" understanding is that you can take a drill and drill fairly deep into the leg and as deep as possible into the ankle. Then, use a long metal peg (optionally coated with epoxy glue) to join the ankle and the leg.

    If you don't have a dremel, acetone is really useful in getting rid of excess glue. But be careful, since it also dissolves the paint of most figurines. The paint can be replaced with acrylic paint and a matte varnish if you mess up too bad

    Loctite make a wonderful superglue called "Powerflex". It's a gel-based superglue with similar consistency to the one you made with the baby powder. It is also in a well-designed bottle that only outputs a very small stream using a pressure-controlled mechanism, controlled by pressing the sides int he right place.
    I am always wary of using superglue on plastics though, as it has a habit of melting them.
    I would also consider making a replacement insert for the hair, instead of using the hair itself, probably using the 3d printer or even just the glue gun.

    Way to much work man. All you need to do is use that dremel to drill a small hole to the head and hair and use a small metal rod or even very small but strong magnets to hold it together. Glue is messy.

    I think your explanation is decent, but ultimately had to dislike the video because of your recommendation about buying a Dremel and then returning it after you're done fixing a figure.
    Figures are extremely expensive, and if you can afford a figure, you can afford a Dremel. I own many figures, and any with a level of detail to require repair is easily in the 70-200 range. A Dremel costs very little, less than 50 bucks, and cheaper if you want to go with a knockoff. Please don't go to stores, buy something only to return it. It's extremely disrespectful to not only the business but everyone else who shops there. Why? Because a return for an item can't be sold easily for the normal price, which means they reduce the price. Which means that they get less profit, and to make up for it, would increase the prices to compensate for this kind of behavior.
    It's an asshole move, don't do it. A Dremel is a very useful tool, and if you have a decent number of figures, a Dremel will come in really handy.

      Figurine Review Don't worry I liked the video to balance it out. This person obviously missed the part where you said not to abuse it and obviously this person has more money that sense.

    • @David-bz7pi
      @David-bz7pi 6 лет назад +1

      So how many times is too many to be abusive? And...more money than sense? Seriously, we're talking about anime figures here. I have *many* of them, yes. I assume that if you have any number of them, then you have some measurable amount of disposable income - since some of the disposable income was used to buy the figure in the first place.
      My issue with this is people abuse retail way too much the way it is, and it drives up cost for a lot of people. If there's a legitimate reason to return an item, then do so, but to use it as a rental is incredibly disrespectful. The thing is, I don't care as much about the company itself as I do about the other patrons who would now have to pay more for items because people are abusing the system. You may say "Well, if someone doesn't ABUSE it, it's okay", which I think it's wrong. If every 100 purchases, say 5-10 of those are processed through returns due to this loaning, you're raising the price a good 5-10%, minimum, for every other person. Thing is, this adds up, and to make it simple. Who in the hell gives you the right to increase the price of goods because you decide it's okay to buy a tool, use it, and return it - not because of a defect, but because you were too lazy or cheap to find another solution.
      Call a friend, post on facebook, find a makers shop in the area. Hell, dremels are incredibly cheap, and the knockoffs are even cheaper. Don't screw over everyone else just because you're too self centered to consider how your actions impact others.

    • @orenrehkowaroo5844
      @orenrehkowaroo5844 6 лет назад

      David
      Ah but you dont see your mistake, not everyone who has figures bought them themselves.and may have been gifts from other people, you made an assumption that just because someone has something that they obviously bought it themselves.
      Cheap is totally subjective based on someones income so a 50 dollar dremmel might be cheap to you but could be actually be a sacrifice to someone else as in not being able to make other payments because the money is spent on repairs that they will use once and will not use again for a significant period of time.
      So yeah if someone needs to make a repair but cant really afford it i think its perfectly acceptable to return an item you will not need for months or even years because not everyone buys there own figures and not everyone has a disposable income to them every dollar counts.

    • @David-bz7pi
      @David-bz7pi 6 лет назад +2

      So your limiting factor is an incredibly tiny portion of people who receive these as gifts? In other words, likely kids - an I'd argue that even that is rare.
      I still disagree with you. I listed many ways which a person can go out and find free ways to solve this problem. To reiterate them again: Call a friend, post on facebook, find a maker's shop, ask a parent, etc.
      If we wanted to argue that buying the tool is the only possible way to fix this, then I hate to tell you (actually I really don't), but I found rotary tools for $15 on Amazon (links at the bottom). If you only have one figure, given to you, and this desperately needs fixing, then these devices should solve the problem. Again, there are many free options out there. Also your comments don't wash when talking about the creator of the video. Look at their room, look at what items are there. This person isn't strapped for cash, and shouldn't be doing this nor advocating for it.
      Links for cheap rotary tools:
      $14.72 - www.amazon.com/WEN-2307-Variable-100-Piece-Accessories/dp/B00A8DXKXS
      $14.99 - www.amazon.com/SE-PT3-6-Cordless-Rechargeable-Rotary/dp/B005KLW7LE (would require bits for fixing figures)
      $14.72 - www.amazon.com/WEN-2305-Rotary-Tool-Shaft/dp/B00A8DXKXS
      $16.24 - www.amazon.com/Rotary-Tool-Kit-80-Pc/dp/B005UDBTUW/
      If you're really, really, cheap, then get one of the bits (probably around a dollar), and manually grind it away.
      There's no excuse why one should buy a tool temporarily then return it, absolutely none. If you own a cell phone, a computer (which is obvious if you're watching this video), any number of figures, netflix, eating out, etc, etc, etc - you can reallocate funds appropriately or use the free options I now mentioned twice.. Really, this argument comes down to laziness, a lack of societal awareness, and overall intelligence when it comes to one's actions and how they affect those around you.
