Testing the limits of DTF printing on a tumbler/water bottle - will it work or won't it? 🤯🚰 Join us in this intriguing experiment to discover the potential of DTF in transforming everyday items into unique pieces.
In this exciting exploration of DTF printing's versatility, we put a tumbler to the ultimate test. The process starts with a bit of rough sanding to give the smooth surfaces of these items something to grip onto, followed by a thorough cleaning with alcohol wipes. This prep work is crucial for ensuring the DTF transfer has the best chance to adhere. Using heat press tape, the transfer is carefully positioned and pressed, half at a time, to avoid wrinkles and ensure even application. The heat press is set at 300°F, and the item is pressed for about 20 seconds, but it's a careful balance to avoid overdoing it.
As the transfer cools, we see promising signs of success. The film sticks well, although there are some minor puckering issues likely caused by the film buckling during pressing. A second, gentle press with parchment paper is used to smooth out these imperfections. Throughout the process, it's a mix of caution and optimism, with each step revealing a bit more about the viability of DTF on such unconventional items. In the end, the results are surprisingly positive. The DTF transfers not only adhere to the tumbler and water bottle but also withstand regular use quite well. This experiment shows that with patience and precise technique, DTF can indeed be a versatile tool for creating unique, customized items, offering new possibilities for personalization beyond traditional textiles.

Hey! Is there an update to this video? How did the cup hold up in the dishwasher? Do you have specific temp settings and instructions for how you did this?

What spray did you use to seal it at the end?
Just your basic Rustoleum Clear Coat from Home Depot

50/50 (Poly acrylic - Water) in a spray bottle. It needs a layer to stick to.

@@SELECTERWOLF The paint section of ace hardware, Home Depot or Walmart, or any paint store.
We didn't need that for it to adhere to the bottle. We used a clear coat to protect it after pressing.
How about dishwashers and stuff? Would you just recommend hand washing?
I feel like this is probably just as an important question as will it DTF. Will it handle the dish washer. I wanna know too

We are currently testing it, nothing extreme, mostly daily use to see how it holds up and we will run it through a dishwasher! We will do an update video!
When we tested the back to school water bottle in the dishwasher it held up pretty good. Using a quality clear coat over the DTF transfer should help. We'll see when we test it soon.

Can you put dtf on a sublimation tumbler in a convection oven?
sublimation can happen without pressure but DTF HAS to have pretty good pressure to adhere.
Can you not use the shrink wrap to hold it on tighter? Maybe that would eliminate the wrinkles.
What was the TEMP and TIME ?
300 but time is relative :). you'll have to press multiple times to get all the way around it so just press until it appears to have stuck to the bottle.
Use UV DTF Transfer
Yes, we know that works, but some folks can't afford a UV printer or just don't have one in their arsenal. We wanted to see if you could do it with a traditional DTF transfer.

still working great. haven't sacrificed it...er...tested it in the dishwasher yet but we'll get an update video out soon.
can you DTF a leather football?
Great idea! You can indeed DTF on leather but the air in the football makes it difficult and would likely need to be deflated.
