Same I'm 15 and I've always wanted to do ballet but we could never afford it :/... I wanted to start work so I could pay for my dream hobbies but my mum won't let me work untill I'm 16 as she says I need to concentrate on my studies...
Kinda stings cus my sisters are 8 years younger than me and soon my mum will start work maybe next year and she'll put them in whatever classes they want (martial arts, ballet, whatever they want) since we'll be able to afford it then but I've long since passed the good age to learn ballet....😔 And I won't have much time at that point anyway because I'll be working and studying for a levels...
Doesn't help that I managed to get into a grammar school full of middle class kids in which everyone was given artistic classes in instruments, ballet, other dance, or joined a theatre group or all of them by their parents...even my best friend has like 4 different hobbies...in fact her mum put her in ballet lessons when she was little but she didn't like it so they stopped....I mean I get she shouldn't have to do things she doesn't like...but it just makes me a little jealous...

Emmie K, it is absolutely not too late. The best way is private lessons, making it clear to the teacher that you actually wish to learn ballet properly, and find a teacher who is willing to explain it, and you'll do great! My adults always progressed faster than the kids. There will be days when it feels like you're not getting anywhere, this is normal, but if you practice regularly then you are absolutely guaranteed to become terrific! Like anything else, it's really just about gaining strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, learning a few steps, and getting used to the right posture and placement, and how to use isometrics to stabilize yourself. It's all learned a little at a time, in bite sizes!

Thank YOUUUUUU!!! I'm so happy I came across this class series. Tho I'm not quite a "silver swan", me reconnecting with my life's passion in ballet after a 16 year hiatus has truly been a life changing experience. We are never too old or its never to late to ever dive into those dreams we have always strongly desired as children. Watching and now participating along with this class has awakened the SWAN back in me and THAT FEELS AMAZING! I never thought I would ever find myself tapping back into classical ballet.... but here we all are and this is so amazing. Love Sara's energy and I appreciate the etiquette at the end after every lesson...."Practice your Lashes" and "don't forget to curtsy" shows respect as a dancer I knew I was watching a great teacher!!!!! Hope to see more advanced Barre /Center combinations, would love to "take" those too! Thanks Royal Academy of Dance

This made me cry in a happy way. Now aged 83 and an ex ballet student (International Ballet School) this is the first video that is perfect. Aside from the actual ballet exercises - a little of the technique - explained in a friendly way. My leg muscles have become weak. Cannot do full plie but this will give me confidence to try again. Also, please thank the PIANIST. Often a forgotten part of the ballet class. One cannot ask a CD or tape to 'could you repeat that please'.

Thank you so much for this. I am 69, never had much talent or coordination, though I went to a ballet school for eight years, and it is wonderful to discover that my body still remembers the feeling of dancing. I have always been hamstrung, though, so this is a frustration. I don’t want to force this, as it has a detrimental effect on my back. Still, after just two lessons, repetitions of lesson 1, I feel a difference in my posture and improvement in my balance. Thank you so very much for this gift of lessons.

So good to see a beginner class with correct technique being taught for posture and placement. After watching several "beginner class" videos which seemed to be all about how good the teacher was. rather than teaching the student how to do it correctly. It is difficult to not be with the student to make the corrections. so IMHO more care must be taken when teaching on line . That is why the Silver Swan program taught by RAD teachers is so essential.

I really enjoyed particularly the piano playing -took me back to my ballet classes from 1952 onwards. I had assumed the playing was live for each lesson but I think not..even so its been a treat -thanks. Silver Swans Lessons 1-9 are now the core of my daily exercise -love it! and I am enquiring on our Nextdoor App if anyone knows how we can continue locally.

    I didn't know I am a swan!?
And really good I didn't find this when it was released, I was too young then 😃
Thank you very much, I was looking for ballet classes for not so young beginners, and with a good teacher!
    (Danced between 8-10)

Aaauwww, I wanted more! There are no Silver Swans where I live and online classes would be fabulous. Thanks for the little taster all the same though. 🙂

Hi Bea, Stay tuned for next week! We'll be releasing another video next Wednesday at 1pm BST. This video will stay on our website and social media channels if you would like to watch again. We will also be sharing information about Silver Swans Licensees and RAD Teachers who are offering online sessions very soon, so you can keep dancing at home.

Love love love this. To snarky Jennifer below I would suggest you find something more suited to your age group. There is so little available suitable for over-65s and this is perfect for those of us struggling with unexpected issues.

These videos are excellent. Good warm up/cool down, clear precise instructions, a professional looking background (I don't really want to be in someone's bedroom!) and a good pace. Thank you!

Did you continue the whole series? And are you flexible(slpits)?
If yes i have a question, were you able to do all of the steps? Because i really want to do ballet but i am NOT flexible and that's discouraging me

That was great. I went to an adult dance class some years back. The girls were in college. I was fifty something. Had know idea "adult" meant 18 and over in dance. They were very sweet, but even the instructor thought I would be excited to buy a costume and be in the show. Nope. This on-line version is perfect.
