School has been a train wreck my entire life, barely scraping by and ashamed. Four years after undergrad I finally received my diagnosis and now I’m in Graduate School. I still have a lot learn in order to overcome my limitations. Especially reading/writing…… But I look forward to learning from you, and you got this 💪
OH MY GOODNESS! I swear I am looking in a mirror. I have ADHD too, so writing can be hard. I definitely need time to meditate to clear my mind! Thank you so much for making this video, and WELCOME to the AuthorTube Community. Can't wait for these challenges.
Aaaah, thank you! And I totally relate - there's always background noise! I can't wait to get more involved with everyone here; it's been a safe place for a few months now and I'm so excited for more interaction. Let's GOOOOO!
Hey, Alice! So glad this reached you, then! Thanks for leaving this for me, I always beam when I get comments like yours. I'm trying to get my ducks in a row so I can post more, so I hope I can make more videos that you can relate to!
Omg this was great! I loved your little studders and blips. It was like looking in the mirror! I love writing and have wanted to write a book series since I was 16 (I am now 34!) and still haven't completed a paragraph. I got pretty far once in a creative writing class after uni but when that ended I got distracted. Recently I started changing my process of writing which includes getting back into sketching and I LOVE to read! Anyway I just posted my first ADHD video but my second one is taking a while because... Well I keep getting distracted. I edited a lot of my studders and ummms out because I find them mortifying (got bullied at school for my speech) but after watching how much fun you had with yours and how you embrace them Im gonna try to embrace mine. Anyway basically what I'm saying is... Subscribed. Looking forward to future videos!
Aww, thank you! That means a lot to me. I know how the video thing can go... I procrastinate filming (for months at a time) but I hope I can post more relatable content! I'll check out your videos, too.
I have ADHD and Asperger's (among everything else wrong with my f*cked up brain). This combination is kinda weird, because on the one hand, my mind races all the time and I need to take breaks every five minutes to stay focused, but on the other hand I can sometimes just get in the zone and lose track of time staring at light or smth. My parents were so confused when I was five and alternated from doing a million things in the span of five seconds and sitting quietly and staring into space. Great video! Can't wait for more!
It's rough sometimes, I know that ADHD and Asperger's can go hand in hand sometimes, but on the bright side, it gives you a unique perspective in your writing that only you can convey! There are a whole host of pros and cons to go through, and at the end of the day I'm really not sure if one fully outweighs the other.
I wish the the very best of luck Rebecca, I hope all your writing for well and I can't wait to walk into the bookstore or go online and buying your books! Much love!!💙💙
Thank you! And that's so true, there is almost never a boring day but always days when I'm still. so. bored. Doesn't always make sense, but always makes it a fun mystery!
aaah, your dog is super cute! I love the way you edited the video with the zooms in your face, lol (and your dogs face, that was just adorable). I can't wait to see what other videos you post! :)
I just started writing a memoir and I'm finding it really hard to stay focused. I found a program that really helps with the way our brains work its called Scrivner and it has helped so much. now it's just getting the motivation to write comes in sporadic waves at times it nice to see their's someone trying to help aspiring authors with ADHD and hopefully some motivation skills tips in the future. Appreciate you!
I’m a late arriver 2021! Of course, ADHD. I’ve been searching for any/everything for decades to finish a memoir manuscript - one of my possible pub houses said ‘we’d’ lol get a ‘Pulitzer’ with it, though, had I made it through ‘middle school.’ As she knew I had a baby a 17. My answer: no. For even forty yrs ago - my teachers pointed to when I didn’t cheat o didn’t seem to be learning, retaining anything. Yet, creativity and solutions oriented we’re off the charts… then my son was born and diagnosed at four months ADHD ( brain scan) ?!?! So he’s off in his life - almost didn’t survive that! And I’m left with my decades long agonizing procrastination/ pure frustration- doing my manuscript rewrite - I WANT THAT PULITZER!!! loling …. So, I’m not only a late arrival here, I’m a late bloomer, lordy-willin, and I give WAY TOO much information, not unlike a savant does calculations… Thx for having me - if anyone has had the time or interest to even read this! Cheers all!
So couple of things!!!! You are simply gorgeous! I love your paintings so I'm totally going to try to commission one, so there's that. What do you write? I definitely want to support your channel. This is such a great first video and I can't wait to see where you grow on this AuthorTube journey!!!
Thank you, KaShay! It means so much that you sat down to watch this. I kind of bounce between genres when I write a little bit depending on the project; there's a little bit oh mystery, a little bit of comedy, and a little bit of fantasy occasionally. It depends on the week and my mood! Also, lmk, I can totally work on a painting for you sometime!! XD
We all have our own methods. The community can definitely be helpful. In fact, if you’re interested and feel comfortable discussing how you come at certain aspects of craft, I still have some opening for the August chapter of Wordstock-where various members of the community do their own take on different aspects of writing. It’s meant to help everyone, professionals and non, come together, help one another, and feel like we all have a voice in the community. No matter what level we’re on, or if we love experimenting with craft, or making up our own rules. We are all part of the same tide, flowing towards getting our stories down and enjoying the process with others. If you’re interested, let me know. I totally subbed :)
Thank you so much! I'd love to be involved - if you want, email me at adhdwriter3@gmail.com. It's really nice to be here and to have such a strong community from the start, even if it is occasionally overwhelming. I'm figuring it all out, but it's definitely helpful to have workshops like yours so I'd be happy to get in the deep end!
@@ADHDwriter Excellent! I will send you a quick test email and when the August write up is ready you’ll get a link to the google doc with all the info. Welcome aboard :)
