You could connect it to a pc first then send the files you want from the hard drive to your iPad via e-mail, google drive, dropbox, etc.
Thanks for that. I was concerned about how I would do that without a power supply. Previously, many years ago, I was unable to do it because the disc did not start up. Now I know what to do. Your help in obtaining the correct equipment is invaluable, as there's a photo on the broken laptop that I need to send to a lady friend.

Any thoughts about using the hard drive vertically rather than horizontally? Does it put a bit more wear on the drive and shorten it's life span? Trying to think of the best adapter available for an IDE and a SATA drive. Many thanks
Imagine a record player and how it spins. Think how difficult it would be if it had to do that on its side. An HDD has the same technology inside it.
Use a solid state drive. Then it won't make any difference how you angle it.

I just purchased a hard drive adapter and need to view the files on them, but I am concerned that doing so might harm my newer computer, files, programs, etc. My question is it okay for me to do this, and if so, is there a certain way I should go about it? You can use some wires to connect one thing to another thing...or you can use one of these different colored boxes to connect one thing to another thing. Whichever method you choose it's vitally important that you remember to connect one thing to another thing. There...tech support! Micro Useless style.

Yea how stupid that he doesn't include that information in the video.
According to what I have read you can hook up 24 external and internal hard drives to a computer. So HOW do I do it? I have 10 various sized internal and two external hard drives and want to hook them up to my computer. I bought one thing that lets you hook up an internal hard drive and use it as an external. I had to use it when a hard drive tried to die and pulled everything off of it.

I just ordered me a USB adapter almost like yours. I got an old laptop HD that i want to access. But my adapter can only accept HDs with pins, and i dont have pins on my old harddrive. Is there a way around this?

I have a problem with my laptop. And it can only be repaired by inserting the installation disc. Sadly i dont have the win8 disc and I was thinking if this could work so i can copy my files from my laptop to my pc. i have some very important files there and I cant just agree with my friend to let it get formatted. Please reply if this is possible
Yes, this is possible if you have a thumb drive or something similar. Then, you can connect it to your pc and then move the files from the old hard drive onto the thumb drive and when you're done formatting the hard drive, you can move the files back onto the hard drive from the thumb drive. I too had this problem and sadly all of my files got deleted in the format.

+YASIR SAHEED Yes it's possible... BUT you'll have to first tell your BIOS to boot from BIOS before any other devices.

Ah. So you can't use a USB cable to the HDD? Such as the "SABRENT" cable? I would think the USB would power the hard drive. That is not incorrect isn't it?

+antonije lasic You CAN, but it's not very efficient. USB 2.0 is fairly slow. You're much better off installing the second drive internally in your system and using the internal SATA and power connectors.
USB 3.0 is about ten times as fast as USB 2.0 .
