You SIR is a life saver... SUBSCRIBE BIG TIME MAN!!! Thank you so much and I hope you get commission once I place an order!!! I haven't ordered it yet but that piece you speak of that comes off and I can just connect the rest was GENIUS. I bought me an 8TB external hard drive from my job... well my job is within another store but anyways that's irrelevant what I'm saying is I can continue what I've been working on since 2009 and just be done with it. Thank you so much. I had the exact same issue with my seagate. I called seagate and they said it was out of warranty, so they cannot do anything.
They suggested that I go to third party services. I ran to Best Buy and some local dealers and they basically said it could cost anywhere between $600-$1500 and could take 7 weeks or more minimum.

I'm very appreciative for an easy and inexpensive solution I was able to do myself. BTW, I also bought an ORICO hard drive holder so I can contain the enclosure and cable in something that will protect it from poor quality components from Seagate, as well as, my negligence.

First of all, thank you SO much for making this video, you saved me a lot of headaches and so much data 😭
Second, I used this method with my hard drive, which is NOT Seagate, it's Toshiba. I took a chance on removing the shell because I was desperate and thankfully it worked out. I know many people are wondering if their drives can be saved using this -- and I'm not saying they can, I just wanted to add my non-Seagate experience. I got my hard drive from Amazon in 2020, so there may be hope for whoever else comes across this video.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I don't use mine that often, but I save and store everything on it (I have a Seagate 5tb external hard drive). Found this video and realized it was the right one b/c the usb cord had both 'connector bits'. That was after having a mini heart attack.
I can't afford to buy a new one right now and mainly still wanted access to the data on my 'broken one'. Found a US external enclosure for like $10 (one day shipping) that supports up to 6tb. Followed your instructions and IT WORKS!!

I had a drive with a similar issue and didn’t realize I could slide off the circuit board that makes it into a portable drive. I saw this video and I ran downstairs to get it. I already had the transfer cable from a dead laptop harddrive rescue.
After more than 10 years I will finally see what I has on that drive and as a bonus I will have a free TB storage drive that has been a paperweight for a decade.
My drive is one of those old style HDD that was just repurposed to be a portable drive.
If this doesn’t work I see that I can just hook up a computer power supply and a data cable. Never even considered that until now. I assumed it was screwed unless I used that broken USB port.
Anyway thanks. I can see this video helped alot of people

Some portable drives like the ones by Western Digital and Toshiba have the USB connector built in to the circuit board of the hard drive, so if the port breaks, you're out of luck.
Fortunately all Seagate Portable drives up to now use separate USB bridges inside their enclosures.

I have my Seagate 1TB External Hardrive Model:SRDONF 1,it has accidentally dropped off from a height of a sitting chair on to the floor, eventually,it is not appearing on the screen when i plug it on to any computer, but the blue light is still on,and it has the normal sound coming out of it.
i still need the information inside to be recovered, and i looked all over for a technician but no one is coming through,i am in South Africa,Johannesburg,Please advice,i dont mind to send it to its manufacture for repair.

Hey Mickey, sorry to hear about your hard drive!
It is hard to say exactly what it is when it doesn't really have many noticeable signs/symptoms.
It could be that the connector got damaged when it dropped, depending on the surface and how it fell. (the power is working, but it could be one of the metal prongs that connect to the board has broken; that's what happened to me anyways.)
You're not hearing any clicking etc when it's plugged in and spinning?
You could try this procedure in the video, which should rule out any fault with the adapter/connection from the cable to the drive; otherwise you may just have to have someone have a look at it unfortunately.
I wish i had a more clear solution for you man, sorry!

So in Seagate it is a SATA connector on the drive itself with an adaptor, while in WD external drives it a microUSB directly soldered on the drive?

Hey Chris! If it is a 4TB Seagate "Portable" harddrive, it should fit in this encloser. (External drives such as ones that require external power supply tend to be 3.5 Inch) Hope that helps!

It seems my usb 3.0 doesn't go all the way into the port anymore. So it's not mounting. It's a very old hard drive, more than 8 years old. I measured it's it's roughly 3.25" and not a 2.5" however, when I look at enclosures for it, I'm not finding enclosures. Just docking stations. I'd like to assume it's the same but wanted advice, just in case.

@@greenviewmedia6186 It's actually the 2.5" but it fit into the dual one I bought, just fine. Sad part is, it still wont mount. I reached out to a data recovery company and will sadly have to send it their way. The new shell with my drive in it is powering on and 'running' but not mounting. Difficult to digest. Thanks for your quick response. Appreciate your video.

    • @greenviewmedia6186
      @greenviewmedia6186  Год назад

Sorry for being a little vague, my bad.😅What i meant was the enclosure case in the video is for a 2.5 inch external harddrive - and most portable harddrives should be that size. However there are 3.5 harddrives (but most of the time those are used in desktops).
How you can tell the difference is usually a 2.5 is 3inch wide, while a 3.5 is 4 inch wide.
      Hopefully that helps!

If it's a minor cut on the outer case i don't think it will damage the drive in itself, but it may compromise it's protection if it were to be dropped in the future.

I would try reinstalling the driver via disk management first if you can, if that doesn't work you can have a look at some of the other methods in the above link.
It's also possible that because of the bitlocker not prompting on your computer, you aren't able to unlock it, which then makes it remain unaccessable.

Hey Jordan! It all depends on what is causing the issue. In my case with this video, the connector piece was broken off and not connecting to the board anymore. So there wasn't much i could do but replace the adapter or take it out and plug directly in with the external case. If you're a little more tech savy with circuit boards and such then you could potentially solder on a new piece that connects the board to the adapter; (If that is your issues as mine was.) What is your drive currently doing?
