So, my problem is similar...the port is definitely damaged. I can hold it in, the light comes on and the drive starts making a normal sound, however, I get drive not recognized. Could that just be because the port is damaged? The HD has ALL my family photos....been saying we need to make a back up for years and just haven't. I am stressing!!!
Hey Lisa! Sorry to hear your hard drive got damaged! Yes i'm assuming one of the connector pieces on the adapter isn't making contact anymore, some parts may be, which turns it on, but the drive portion not so much. Once you remove the adapter and plug directly into a external case, it should work for you. (As long as there isn't any other internal issues.) Hope that helps! Let me know how it goes!
I have my Seagate 1TB External Hardrive Model:SRDONF 1,it has accidentally dropped off from a height of a sitting chair on to the floor, eventually,it is not appearing on the screen when i plug it on to any computer, but the blue light is still on,and it has the normal sound coming out of it. i still need the information inside to be recovered, and i looked all over for a technician but no one is coming through,i am in South Africa,Johannesburg,Please advice,i dont mind to send it to its manufacture for repair. Yours Mike
Hey Mickey, sorry to hear about your hard drive! It is hard to say exactly what it is when it doesn't really have many noticeable signs/symptoms. It could be that the connector got damaged when it dropped, depending on the surface and how it fell. (the power is working, but it could be one of the metal prongs that connect to the board has broken; that's what happened to me anyways.) You're not hearing any clicking etc when it's plugged in and spinning? You could try this procedure in the video, which should rule out any fault with the adapter/connection from the cable to the drive; otherwise you may just have to have someone have a look at it unfortunately. I wish i had a more clear solution for you man, sorry!
tbh my xbox seagate is broken but you saved me because you made me changed my mind I thought I gonna lose everything now I didnt lol I'm lucky so Thanks for helping me !!
Hey Chris! If it is a 4TB Seagate "Portable" harddrive, it should fit in this encloser. (External drives such as ones that require external power supply tend to be 3.5 Inch) Hope that helps!
It seems my usb 3.0 doesn't go all the way into the port anymore. So it's not mounting. It's a very old hard drive, more than 8 years old. I measured it's it's roughly 3.25" and not a 2.5" however, when I look at enclosures for it, I'm not finding enclosures. Just docking stations. I'd like to assume it's the same but wanted advice, just in case.
Hey there! I'm guessing it is a older seagate harddrive? if you have any more details on it's name so i can search it up, i'll have a look and get back to you!
@@greenviewmedia6186 It's actually the 2.5" but it fit into the dual one I bought, just fine. Sad part is, it still wont mount. I reached out to a data recovery company and will sadly have to send it their way. The new shell with my drive in it is powering on and 'running' but not mounting. Difficult to digest. Thanks for your quick response. Appreciate your video.
That is a good question! I tried looking it up but haven't been able to find anything unfortunately. However if you do go that route, let me know how it goes!
Sorry for being a little vague, my bad.😅What i meant was the enclosure case in the video is for a 2.5 inch external harddrive - and most portable harddrives should be that size. However there are 3.5 harddrives (but most of the time those are used in desktops). How you can tell the difference is usually a 2.5 is 3inch wide, while a 3.5 is 4 inch wide. Hopefully that helps!
We have a Seagate 4TB Backup Plus Portable and it seems like its power supply board is fubar, I think this will fix it, do you know if the case that you suggested will fit this model that you shared?
Hi from Scotland. Thank you for this. I am awaiting a Hard Drive Enclosure. I intended to use it for 2 Maxtor M3s unfortunately, when I took them out of their cases, I found that one HDD is labelled Laptop HDD, not Mobile HDD. It will not connect to such an enclosure and I am unsure what to do for data access to it. The other should be ok. Any ideas about this? Thanks again.
@@greenviewmedia6186 thank you for your reply. They do not match. The connector are different. The connecting socket is soldered to the board. It is labelled Laptop HDD
@@jimgordon1563 Sorry for the delay Jim! I'm not to sure what can be done on your own if the drive port is broken and soldered directly to the board. (Without the adapter piece as in the video), Unless you are handy with soldering tools. I can see if there may be some videos in that area if you want to go that route?
@@greenviewmedia6186 Thank you for your reply. I'm afraid that I am unable to solder this. However, I have purchased, at a fair cost, a replacement. You might be interested to know that I have a modest RUclips channel that deals with an old media; Shortwave and other radio.:ruclips.net/video/Mahs69a7l2c/видео.html
you are very welcome! Unfortunately this process won't be the same for other companies, as other devices like western digital don't have this adapter piece (or at least, not that i am aware of.) So this fix isn't a universal fix outside of the seagate brand. Sorry!
Can this also fix the drive not working I plug it in but nothing happens (Windows 10), when I plug it in it just makes a weird sound while it’s plugged in
It depends what the source of the problem is. If the port is damaged, this should fix the broken port; however if it's making weird noises and not turning on, it may be more of an internal issue. What kind of sound is it making? beeps?
Not true your warranty is for the drive not the shell. It is standard practice to shuck a external HDD to recover data. You can literally just send in the hard drive.
If it's a minor cut on the outer case i don't think it will damage the drive in itself, but it may compromise it's protection if it were to be dropped in the future.
Thx for your instructions! But my Problem is different. My external Hard Drive fell to the ground several times and now when I plug in the Hard Drive, it becomes weird noises and the PC doesn't recognize my external Hard Drive anymore. Is it now totally broken or not?
Hey Lukas! Hmmm, is it making a sound something like this? ruclips.net/video/zIvWvnzvlLc/видео.html It may be possible the drops may have caused the heads inside the drive to get stuck.
Recently on December 26th, 2023, my seagate hard drive became corrupted after it slipped off the bed and was dangling on the cord. Hopefully, this will help prevent 8 years of memory from becoming lost media.
hello , i need help..my external hdd power light is not turning on..when i plug in or off, there is windows plug in sound... in disk management it seems as "not initialized " .. when i try to initialize it says incorrect function.. in device manager it only seems as jmicron device (which is probably adapter or sth) what should be the cause? thank you
Sorry to hear about your harddrive! It seems like one of the prongs on the port that connects to the harddrive's board is broken, causing some parts to work, while others failing. Does the hardrive sound like it's spinning/running when you plug it into your computer? Have you already tried putting it into the new enclosure?
@@greenviewmedia6186 it just gives the notification sound.. no light.. no reading.. nothing..... my drive was bitlocker protected.. what can be the cause? i cant save my data bcs i dont wanna open it yet.. is there a solution? ( disk management.. unknown disk , not initialized.. no size) ( device manager only seems as jmicron )
@@alpitv6536 hmmm, strange. Could give this a try: www.techinpost.com/windows-incorrect-function-error/ I would try reinstalling the driver via disk management first if you can, if that doesn't work you can have a look at some of the other methods in the above link. It's also possible that because of the bitlocker not prompting on your computer, you aren't able to unlock it, which then makes it remain unaccessable. Let me know if any of those work for you
Hey Jordan! It all depends on what is causing the issue. In my case with this video, the connector piece was broken off and not connecting to the board anymore. So there wasn't much i could do but replace the adapter or take it out and plug directly in with the external case. If you're a little more tech savy with circuit boards and such then you could potentially solder on a new piece that connects the board to the adapter; (If that is your issues as mine was.) What is your drive currently doing?

happy to hear the video helped! Let me know how the case works out for you when you get it! Yes, not having to buy new hard drives is definitely ideal lol
Thank you so much! You just saved me 1T of lost files!
Happy to be able to help get it working again!
Thanks so much for the save! Found the different case on amazon for 10 bucks here in the usa and it's reading my drive.
awesome! glad to hear it worked for you!
I really hope this works. It’s been broken for maybe five years now and because of some events I need the things on it. I have a good feeling because the one he’s fixing Is the exact same model of mine and the exact same problem.
I hope it works for you too! Let me know how it goes!
this is what I'm looking for. thank you so much...
No worries! Happy it could help!
This gave me nostalgia... the BUP Slim I dropped in torso height lol.
And also the same disk as my laptop dies with. (ST2000LM07-1R8174)
AND your voice made me sleepy lol
lol, dang yeah it's not a good time to drop at any point. i'm glad it could be a reminder of now entertaining situations; along with being a sleepiness aid i guess?
@@greenviewmedia6186 So what happened is, I was walking with my laptop carefully because I was backing up, and switch places to be safe
But my laptop was a little bit low so the drive slip off and dies after 3 shuts on and off.

You just saved all of my photos thank you so much
You are very welcome! happy to help! :)
with rubber bands i connected and had power, transferred 80% and crapped out, will try this.
I appreciate the determination! I've also tried rubberbands or just holding it through the half-hour or so transfer, but my hands would fail to be steady enough haha. Hope this video helps get your files back for you! Let me know how it goes!
OMG i didnt' get this device but I have another and was able to retrieve all my data - thank you so much for the info.
No problem! Happy you were able to get your data!
Genuinely awesome - all of my stuff is safe! Thanks a lot
Happy to hear that! You are very welcome! :)
Thank you so much!!!! I thought i lost all my data, all the fix it places i checked where not helpful or too expensive:(
You are very welcome! Happy to help!
thanks! my port just fell out and I wasn't execting the fix to be this easy!
Glad you were able to fix your hard drive! You are very welcome! 😄
Thank you so much this actually worked and it was so easy to fix. my ps4 hard drive port broke and this method work 💯💯
Happy it could help you out!
@@greenviewmedia6186 their connector pieces are garbage. So thin and easy to damage!
You saved my life with this. Thank you!
You are very welcome! 😄
Thank you so much! My hard drive is up and running again! :)
Happy to hear that! You are very welcome! 😁
The new models you need to pry the front top inner corner to get the lid off, it's slightly different and hard to see the join. Still clips though.
Thank you for the heads up!
Thank you!!! Exactly what just happened to mine!
Happy the video could help you out! 😁
Amazing information. Thank you. Life and HDD Saver
Glad i could help! :)
(the power is working, but it could be one of the metal prongs that connect to the board has broken; that's what happened to me anyways.)
You're not hearing any clicking etc when it's plugged in and spinning?
You could try this procedure in the video, which should rule out any fault with the adapter/connection from the cable to the drive; otherwise you may just have to have someone have a look at it unfortunately.
I wish i had a more clear solution for you man, sorry!
tbh my xbox seagate is broken but you saved me because you made me changed my mind I thought I gonna lose everything now I didnt lol I'm lucky so Thanks for helping me !!
Thats awesome! Glad the video helped get your game files back!

This saved my hard drive - thank you so much!!
happy it could help! :)
Thank you so much you just saved me hundreds of dollars thanks you so much
oh wow, no worries! Happy this video was able to help you out!
My dumb self thinks the connector are soldered into the external drive. Thanks for this video.
no worries, hard drives are complicated. Happy it was helpful!
thanks i got it working again but does it slower the transfer speed since the adapter is a different one now? i bought the same erico one too
Glad you got it working! both the original harddrive cable and the new case cable are usb 3.0, so they should be similar transfer speeds.
So in Seagate it is a SATA connector on the drive itself with an adaptor, while in WD external drives it a microUSB directly soldered on the drive?
That is correct!
Do you know if this enclosure will work with a 4TB external hard drive?
Do they make one of those for a the thicker 5TB Seagate Exterior drive?
That is a good question! I tried looking it up but haven't been able to find anything unfortunately. However if you do go that route, let me know how it goes!
But what is meant by "make sure it matches up" regarding the hard drive enclosure. What are you matching? Where do I find this information?
Hey Jim! When you say it won't connect to the encloser, do you mean the plugs on the drive and the encloser don't match?
However, I have purchased, at a fair cost, a replacement.

wasnt even the problem i had but thank you saved me money lol
Gotta get those savings! Glad this could help!
Thanks for the video. 1 question, will this work for any kind if hard drive? I have one of those Toshiba ones.
you are very welcome! Unfortunately this process won't be the same for other companies, as other devices like western digital don't have this adapter piece (or at least, not that i am aware of.) So this fix isn't a universal fix outside of the seagate brand. Sorry!
Thank you so much bro same think happened with me I think I lost my all data but you save me thank you so much
No worries! Glad you were able to get it fixed! :)
What kind of sound is it making? beeps?
Saved my games g.
That's awesome to hear! Happy gaming!
Not true your warranty is for the drive not the shell. It is standard practice to shuck a external HDD to recover data. You can literally just send in the hard drive.
Thanks for the insight, that is great to know!
BRO THANK YOU SO FUCKING MUCH I THOUGHT IT WAS OVER FOR ME
No problem! Happy to help! 😁
It worked. Thanksss!
Happy to help! 😁
Just did this you’d think they would have a plan for this
I think seagate was thinking ahead to have this adapter, which im thankful for. without it, life would get much more complicated than this. 😅

Great video mate. Thank you!
Thanks! Glad the video could be helpful!
Can I ask what if there is a cut on the cover of the Seagate hard drive it will damage the inner part of the hard drive ?
If it's a minor cut on the outer case i don't think it will damage the drive in itself, but it may compromise it's protection if it were to be dropped in the future.
Life saver!
Thx for your instructions! But my Problem is different. My external Hard Drive fell to the ground several times and now when I plug in the Hard Drive, it becomes weird noises and the PC doesn't recognize my external Hard Drive anymore. Is it now totally broken or not?
Hey Lukas! Hmmm, is it making a sound something like this? ruclips.net/video/zIvWvnzvlLc/видео.html
It may be possible the drops may have caused the heads inside the drive to get stuck.
Thanks bro you're a life saver 🙌
no worries! glad it helped!
Recently on December 26th, 2023, my seagate hard drive became corrupted after it slipped off the bed and was dangling on the cord.
Hopefully, this will help prevent 8 years of memory from becoming lost media.
hello , i need help..my external hdd power light is not turning on..when i plug in or off, there is windows plug in sound... in disk management it seems as "not initialized " .. when i try to initialize it says incorrect function..
in device manager it only seems as jmicron device (which is probably adapter or sth)
what should be the cause? thank you
Sorry to hear about your harddrive!
Could give this a try: www.techinpost.com/windows-incorrect-function-error/
I would try reinstalling the driver via disk management first if you can, if that doesn't work you can have a look at some of the other methods in the above link.
It's also possible that because of the bitlocker not prompting on your computer, you aren't able to unlock it, which then makes it remain unaccessable.
Let me know if any of those work for you
What casing should you get for a seagate 5TB portable?
Nice! Cheers man.
Happy to help!
How do I fix it with out ordering anything
