+SNES drunk you could have saved yourself the last five minutes fo this vid and it would be a great video. it's pretty cool still, ill try some of this, thanks.
+SNES drunk Hey nice list but one game caught my eye, The very first game you showed at 0:04. I use to love this game and I forgot the name of it! Do you think you could tell me?
Ogre Battle is one of my all time favorite games ever. And it's truly unique. I've played Tactics Ogre, and Ogre Battle 64, but the Original is the one I keep coming back too.
I was fortunate enough to grow up playing Sparkster here in Brazil. My father did not want to spend a lot of money on a fancy game, so he picked up an obscure and "cheaper" one, and it turned out to be ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC. My brother and I loved it a lot. Anything you play and love as a child becomes excessively special later on. I had no Link to the Past cartridge, and even though I know it was one of the best games ever, I still prefer Sparkster. It's deeply subjective.
Quando eu era criança, meu pai foi para Aparecida do Norte e pedi pra ele trazer um cartucho do Sim City, que era o jogo que eu mais alugava nas locadoras. Ele trouxe, mas foi enganado pelo vendedor: A capa era, de fato, Sim City, mas o jogo era Sonic Wings, de avião. Chorei muito (eu tinha uns 8 anos), mas joguei muito. Chamava os vizinhos para jogar comigo, fazíamos campeonatos, etc. Adorei o "erro". Bons tempos. ;-;
I know exactly what you mean. There will never be anything like Super Bomberman 1. When It comes to the funniest memories. I can't tell how many hours, days, weeks, months I spent playing It with my friends. We made whole tournaments on Versus Battle Mode. Which was incredible and gifted us tons of laughing because this battle mode was hilarious (loosing or winning). We were all good at the game so the tournaments were extremely competitive. I know there were many sequels. Super Bomberman 2, 3, 4, Sega Saturn, Playstation, etc, BUT It never feels the same. There can't be a versus game as good as the very first Super Bomberman for Snes :)

This is my 4th time rewatching this since first subscribing a couple years ago. I don't know what it is, but your completely believable irritability with this trope and the colorful variety of games you choose just feels so genuine. You are by far my favorite retro gaming channel next to Metal Jesus Rocks just because of your competency discussing games and passion about the subject. So this is just a fan telling future you, your video has aged extremely well, IMO.
I played the hell out of Spike McFang as a kid. Everyone really needs to play it, it’s so fun. It’s pretty easy for the most part, but it’s definitely an enjoyable short action RPG. Plus the music is FANTASTIC.
interesting fact about Pieces: It was made by the same people who would later go on to create Disgaea. They were known as Prism Kikaku at the time, but nowadays they're known as Nippon Ichi Software. In fact, Kitazumi Koichi, the director of Pieces, would later be the executive producer for Disgaeas 1 and 2.
U.N. SQUADRON is a game that I am so shocked NOBODY paid much attention to as it is beyond epic. The boss fight with the Wolf Pack is my favorite. The only way to improve on this classic gem is to give a 3D world to which you can move around 360 degrees.
The problem with UN Squadron, IMO, was how they wanted you to spend money on buying your optional weapons, BUT you ALSO needed money to buy new planes, and your starting plane is hilariously weak. You could attack the convoys for extra cash between missions, BUT, thanks to those stupid pillars before and after them, only a handful of weapons, or one specific plane's normal attacks can even hit the thing without getting you hit yourself, so you had to spend money to make money. I felt the whole grinding aspect was very unnecessary and it sapped the game of a lot of its fun-factor. Grinding convoys was not fun, especially when you'd make $20k to do it but had to spend $2-3k on weapons just to kill them, OR, buy an expensive ground-attacking plane JUST for convoys, which would set you back even more. And even then, there's a point in time where the convoys stop spawning which forces you into a regular mission whether you're prepared or not.
Im also a fan of squandron, I managed to beat it in hard and only using the first plain until the last 3 missions including the final mission which is freaking the absolute best final mission of most games....
Sammy Lane actually that is its port name, the real name is area 88 and the us port was broken quite a bit. None of the games mentioned here were gems at all just common snes 90's shovelware which is typical for American games. I learned to read and speak Japanese so I could play the real liberation the original versions of games before they were dissected for bad programming and Terrible translations.
I remember playing the arcade version and I loved it! The SNES version was a little different in the play mechanics area but it was cool too (and quite difficult for me strangely). It got me into the anime and manga Area 88. A great licensed game!
Run Saber is still one of my most nostalgic of games. I rented it from Blockbuster Video and loved it so much. Then by pure chance the store went on to put the rental copy up for sale, COMPLETE WITH BOX AND INSTRUCTIONS!!! I told my dad what I wanted for my birthday, and he didn't disappoint. Still own it to this day.
Ignition factor! Hell yeah I remember that one! Freakin loved it, Space Megaforce rings a bell somewhere in my brain too... was expecting Uniracers as well, a fantastic, addictive yet simple racing game of sentient unicicles.
It's is was a wonderful game :) also the cover literally says it is an RPG but that is neither here nor there. But I still get lost in the map theme song
@@fidelsolis6070 Freedom of choice on the map and scenarios. Editing, deleting, changing class of all characters. Choosing to be good or evil. The amount of different types of units. Finally someone talks about Brainlord. I never finished it but I really enjoyed it, and that line that guy says to you about axes vs. swords in the first pub really became stuck in my head.
I’m glad you mentioned Ogre Battle. It took me 15 years of searching to find someone selling this game. This game along with Tales of Phantasia and Star Ocean are of my most prized SNES games of all time, especially Ogre Battles. I’ve been working on making an in-depth real time versus mode version of this game over 2 decades. I am constantly improving and adding to it as well. It began with me looking for another game that has the same structure as Ogre Battle. Spoiler... there is no other game out there like Ogre Battle. Hero’s of Might am Magic for IOS is the closest thing we’ve ever had to this game. If anyone out there reads this and loves Ogre Battle’s strategy system as much as I do and you are able to make/code games please reach out to me by replying to this comment.
Ah yes lufia i remember getting it for my birthday in 96 when i was 4. Took me some time to eventually beat it, such a good game . Crazy how much its worth now because of how rare it is
I found UN Squadron at the arcade at my "local" amusement park, which led to me getting the SNES version. They were surprisingly different, though both shoot em ups. Known as Area 88 in Japan, this led me to one of my favorite anime series of all time. Ogre Battle and Robotrek were staples in me SNES library back in the day too.
I really love the way you despise clickbaits n' stuff. Nowadays every RUclips video title is basically about throwing caps all over the place which makes my inner voice read it like some annoying child shouting all the time and here you are delivering great content with simple headlines. It's great to see someone being so passionate and humble with his project. Great stuff!
I remember playing Brainlord with my cousin back in the day. Definitely a major emphasis on the puzzle solving. And yes, the puzzles get crazy hard after just a couple dungeons. Apparently I wasn't a "brain lord" when I was 12.
You forgot to mention the most awesome thing about U.N. Squadron: THE MUSIC! The music in that game is so epic! Probably one of the best soundtracks on the SNES.
Lol. As a kid my older simblins had this small videogame rent store. Most Snes over other consoles. I was there playing most of the time (pretending to help on work lol). Although there weren't that many cartridges available. One of those was True Lies. I played It for more than I can remember. But aways picked up the cartridge whenever there was nothing better at glance. Everyone thought this game was shitty. It's funny to see today people looking at it as a "movie based hidden jewel". And probably the best action movie based game on Snes :) your comment brought me memories.
I am impressed, I have been playing and collecting Gameboy, NES & SNES games since their release and I had never heard of a few of these titles. In addition it is the first time I have seen Ignition Factor mentioned in a Hidden Gems video, you totally earned extra credit points on that one !!!
When I was getting back to Super Nintendo, what I did was look up all the games that had a perfect score in old Nintendo Powers (Nintendomagasinet, actually). The games I found were: Zelda III, Super Metroid, Mega Man X and Skyblazer. (and maybe some more obvious ones, like Mario) I'm almost surprised Skyblazer isn't more known.
I actually LOVED pieces and Ignition Factor. And Spike McFang is amazing. Played the crap out of it last summer! RoboTrek is definitely a gem and suffered from some crappy marketing and relatively limited release. Love it! Sparkster is classic. Lufia II also got some play last summer... so much fun! Beautiful art. Ogre Battle... the SNES gaming community was just not ready for it, but damn... so much fun and value in that game. I managed Funcolands at the time and really couldn't move these cartridges, even demoing it as much as possible. I put a chair in front of the 'arcade' so people could dig their teeth into it. I let them read the instructions. People just weren't down for the experience.
Funny enough, on the note of Tactics Ogre. It was actually a snes game at one time, before it was on PSX/Sega Saturn and eventually PSP. Also. It's so nice to see someone talk about Lufia 2. I really enjoy that game, an easy top 5 for rpgs for me. The 100 floor dungeon is the center piece for me. Plus they did the whole "Aerith thing" before square. Twice lol
PLEASE MAKE MORE VIDEOS LIKE THIS !!!! i really enjoyed it, the reason we wanted to see this, is because we all no of the popular games and want to see what other games are "Worth Playing Today" :) haha
8:35 - Dude!!! Space Mega Force!!! Awesome shmup. Gun Nac and Crisis Force are the best on Famicom/NES. Super Aleste (SMF) and R Type 3 are the best on SNES
Hellz yeah! Super Ninja Bros., Brain Lord, Equinox, Skyblazer, UN Squadron, Robotrek, Lufia 2 (I prefer the first game, but meh), and - my favorite on this list - Ogrebattle are all games I owned (or at least rented enough to have played to death). Man, too bad we don't get this kind of quality video game anymore. :)
Love that every video you make you put a list. I absolutely hate when people put videos together and you want to play the games they talk about but you need a notebook 🤦♂️🤦🤦♀️
robotrek!!! I've always felt like the only person on the planet who knew about that game, except the people I expressly let borrow it IRL back then, who all loved it. No other game really feels anything like it that I know of, from the nice simple robot-customization to the small-area strategy-rpg like battles to the unique, cartoony tone. I could use more games like that, maybe it'll inspire some indie creator someday. But seriously, this kind of video is great, I don't mind watching the same kind of thing a million times by different people -- like you said, everyone has their own criteria for 'hidden gems' and I love hearing different peoples' picks and reasonings for them, so imo you shouldn't feel bad for making this or any similar type of future video.
I like how you keep telling me to have a great rest of my day at the end of each of your videos I've watched today and yesterday. I'm not in a good place in my life right now, so it's helpful to hear that enough times for it to sink in.
That onion on the cover of Twisted Tales of Spike McFang looks ALOT like Calvin's onion costume in his school play in Calvin and Hobbes. I'm not complaining! I love it!
You should try out a game called Inindo: Way of the Ninja. Its one of the obscure games from the Oda Nobunaga series. Its interesting because it is a strategy game, but it is also heavily and RPG.
lufia 2 is my fav jrpg on the snes, i played it just few years ago and omg it was soooo good. Definitely my top 5 jrpgs ever and i played like over 200 jrpgs.
Great list! I have been watching your channel for years now and have really enjoyed it. I bought Brain Lord, based off this list, and I have really enjoyed it, especially since I have worn out my copy of LTTP.
Ogre Battle is my 3rd favorite game of all time behind only Fire Emblem: The Sealed Sword and Pokemon Crystal Version. The story is incredible, and so layered, and so confidently told. I mean, if you skip the optional missions or don't visit every single town on every map, you can miss entire plot arcs, some of which are seriously moving! My least favorite game of all time? Definitely The Lion King. No matter how well I play, I always end up getting my dad killed in a wildebeest stampede!
Super Ninja Boy/Super Chinese World got sequels and the third one is a great game, you have a world map and vilages like in Final Fantasy, random monster encounter are played like Street of Rage/Final Fight, Dungeons are plateformers and boss battles are VS fighting, it's a 2 player Coop game and there's a vs mode. I love this game!
U.N Squadron was popular here in Brazil. As for Ogre Battle, I would say it's one the best hidden gems in the history of gaming. Different endings, tons of strategy. Replay value should be in it's name.
The Ogrebattle series is one of my favorites. I once came up a few dollars short of buying the Tactics Ogre game for PS1, I ended up handing over a copy of the Howl's Moving Castle novel to one of my friends so I could buy the game.
been subscribed for a while now and love the content.. it wasn't until right now I realized their won't be any drunk SNES game play but rather SNES is whats got us drunk. lol 😆
Just wanted to say thanks for all your awesome snes reviews! Helped a lot to decide on some recent purchases. I don't understand people sometimes though.. judging from the quality of your videos you deserve at least like 10 times the subscribers you currently have.. :)
You should have finished the list by including Super Mario World and say something to the effect of "Why has no one ever put this on their hidden gems list? I don't think I've even seen people make reviews this game! Why is no one talking about this?"
Pieces is truly and incredible multiplayer game for the SNES. The power ups you earn as you place your puzzle pieces add a sense of urgency and frantic fun that very few games are able to establish.
I was about to fill this comment box with OUTRAGE, but then you said Lufia II and I wept for joy. I loved that game, and the reimagined DS version is also terrific.
Lovin' all the different picks, man. Makes me wanna pick up all of these games like, ASAP. If only I wasn't broke. Nice video, dude! You're pretty much my go-to channel for anything SNES related. Keep it up!
U.N Squadron is actually based on a manga called Area 88. The whole tie-in got scrapped in the west since the series was never localized here, but the game probably ended up being more well known and revered than the manga.
I am a big SNES nerd, and I thought I knew most obscure games, and every time I click on one of those obscure games lists videos I am disappointed that I know all of the games. But I didn't know most of the games in this list, except for The Twisted Tales of Spike McFang (a personal fave of mine), Equinox, UN Squadron, Sparkster, Lufia II and Ogre Battel.
I love Lufia 2. I played it so many times. I agree it would be labeled as obscured. None of the friends I grew up with and people I talk to now who had an SNES ever heard of Lufia. I would really love another Lufia.
Metal Marines was super ahead of its time and kept the snes afloat in the strategy genre. Perhaps the most underrated game of all time nothing even close was released on the snes.
O, how am I disappointed that Brandish is not in this list. Though you've made it up for including Brain Lord in this list. Seriously, Brandish may be a top-down perspective grid-based action RPG, but it had the right mix of puzzle element and action. Although slightly punishing, the game allows you to level specific elements of the character, such as magic power, shield strength, and swing strength (by using swords). Of all the games features, I have played 5 of them. One of these five are in my 10 "Games You Should Play On The Snes" (blog), and that would be Equinox. (The other four is U.N. Squadron, Ogre Battle, Brain Lord and The Twisted Tales of Spike McFang.)
Some more obscure/overlooked SNES hidden gems : Actraiser 2 (this game is really fun once you get the hang of the flying mechanics) Congo's Caper Joe & Mac 2 Loony Tunes B-Ball Lost Vikings 1 & 2 Marvel Super Heroes in War of the Gems Metal Warriors Mighty Morphin Power Rangers the Movie Prehistorik Man Saturday Night Slam Masters Super Adventure Island II
I'd say True Lies was the first GOOD movie-based video game I remember playing. Plus the cheat codes all being Arnie references was hilarious. One more thing, Ogre Battle may have been a great game, but I feel the PlayStation version of March of the Black Queen was a better game. The tarot cards themselves were hit or miss, and one bad pull when liberating a city could ruin all the time invested into that chapter.
I am disappointed in the lack of outrage in this comments section. Come on, people.
***** Too bad... great list. Awesome titles for the most part!

It's funny how within a single minute you go from "This game has only 20 levels" to "That game has only 5 levels".
8:35 - Dude!!! Space Mega Force!!! Awesome shmup. Gun Nac and Crisis Force are the best on Famicom/NES. Super Aleste (SMF) and R Type 3 are the best on SNES
Robotrek is one of my favourite RPGs on the SNES
Waaaaaait.......first Lufia over Lufia 2? You might be the first one to ever say that lol
@@civoreb: yeah got me there as well
lufia 1 is very much a product of the times and not in a good way
One of my favorites "hidden gems" for me is S.O.S from Human Entertainment. I don't think it is for everyone, but I love that game.
Bro, I thought I was the only one as a kid to play Super Ninja Boy, which I was hard af. Twisted Tales of Spike McFang was amazing too. Good video
No one ever talks about Phantom 2040, one of the few truly metroid-like games on snes.
I’ve always felt that ‘Shadowrun’ was a hidden gem game and a very overlooked RPG.
Adam Mackanin one of my favorite games easily (the SNES one of course)
Thanks for mentioning UN Squadron. I had alot of play time on that cart!
Love that every video you make you put a list. I absolutely hate when people put videos together and you want to play the games they talk about but you need a notebook 🤦♂️🤦🤦♀️
I was "worried" I wouldn't know a single game in the list.. but thankfully, I've played Brain Lord.
Thanks for the actual obscure list.
Excellent list and loaded with plenty of actual hidden gems. Space Megaforce looks like a sequel Blazing Lasers on the TG-16
+Son of Tiamat Both made my Compile so they're definitely related.
Just here to say, this is the best SNES channel
Mad respect for Ogre Battle pick, it is an amazing game!
I like how you keep telling me to have a great rest of my day at the end of each of your videos I've watched today and yesterday. I'm not in a good place in my life right now, so it's helpful to hear that enough times for it to sink in.
Best of luck
How are you doing now?
Space megaforce was the reason I did not graduate after 7 years at a 4yr institution.
I know how you feel about exploding vegas planets!
What an idiot
That onion on the cover of Twisted Tales of Spike McFang looks ALOT like Calvin's onion costume in his school play in Calvin and Hobbes. I'm not complaining! I love it!
You should try out a game called Inindo: Way of the Ninja. Its one of the obscure games from the Oda Nobunaga series. Its interesting because it is a strategy game, but it is also heavily and RPG.
7:40 - Great game. Sparkster is another one of those SNES games that has blast processing!!
lufia 2 is my fav jrpg on the snes, i played it just few years ago and omg it was soooo good. Definitely my top 5 jrpgs ever and i played like over 200 jrpgs.
Thumbs up just because Run Saber is on the list. My friends and I have lots of memories of this great game.
From a fellow SNES fan, I really enjoy your vids, keep up the great work!
Thank you for watching
Here's a few more hidden gems for you guys.
Plok!
Spanky's Quest
Street Racer
Blackthorne
Blackthorne isn't hidden. It is a gem tho.
hell yea dude... I love blackthorne
i remember blackthorne wasnt easy
Street Racer is great fun but didn’t realise it was hidden, I always assumed it was popular at the time.
U.N Squadron has one of the most consistely amazing OSTs of the whole snes gallery
megaman x duh
@@RizaLazar read again, mate. "ON OF", not necessarily "THE" best
Spending a day looking through all your reviews. Thanks for the amazing content!
Ive never heard of any of these. Great list!
Thanks
1 word, squadron.
You never heard of true lies the biggest movie of 1994. lol
Unless you are a Zoomer
I remember picking RoboTrek up for $10 from a bargain bin. Went in with zero expectations, and was blown away by just how fun and well made it was.
Tiny Toons Buster Busts Loose is another hidden gem. great game
Great list! I have been watching your channel for years now and have really enjoyed it. I bought Brain Lord, based off this list, and I have really enjoyed it, especially since I have worn out my copy of LTTP.
Thank you for watching Joseph
Ogre Battle is my 3rd favorite game of all time behind only Fire Emblem: The Sealed Sword and Pokemon Crystal Version. The story is incredible, and so layered, and so confidently told. I mean, if you skip the optional missions or don't visit every single town on every map, you can miss entire plot arcs, some of which are seriously moving!
My least favorite game of all time? Definitely The Lion King. No matter how well I play, I always end up getting my dad killed in a wildebeest stampede!
7:47 Heck yeah, Lufia II !
lufia, sparkster, and skyblazer are handsdown some of my favorite games. and u mentioned ogre battle. really good selection man
Woah you nailed Hagane, Sparkster and Space Megaforce, those are my favourite games for the snes!
Not even a top 10? How dare you not fully sell out!
been subscribed for a while now and love the content.. it wasn't until right now I realized their won't be any drunk SNES game play but rather SNES is whats got us drunk. lol 😆
Just wanted to say thanks for all your awesome snes reviews! Helped a lot to decide on some recent purchases. I don't understand people sometimes though.. judging from the quality of your videos you deserve at least like 10 times the subscribers you currently have.. :)
+Big Lebowski Thanks Dude
I think Ardy LIghtfoot and Prehistorik Man are great hidden gems
yeah, those ones are pretty good
Just discovered your page and loving it! Oh... and Ogre Battle is in my top 5 of all time
I owned Ogre Battle back in the day! I don't think I ever finished it but it was fun and it looked great.
It's made by Nippon Ichi Software (they were known as Prism Kikaku at the time), the same developer behind Disgaea
YAAAAAAAYYYYY!!! Someone's talked about Spike McFang and Lufia II!! =D
-Rory
"At least it's not Lagoon" - SNES Drunk when talking about pretty much any game. 🤣
Excellent list and great channel, Ogre Battle is indeed a hidden gem need to start playing it again.
I've spent MANY hours playing Ogre Battle March of the black queen! Loved it more than Ogre Battle 64!
Keep it up!
I know you made this comment 3 years ago, but broke? You're on the internet. The games aren't hard to come by.
Just passing by to say Brain Lord has the best OST in the SNES, and is one of my all-time favorite OSTs.
I like Sky blazer and Run saber. Nice Mega man moves.
I love Lufia 2. I played it so many times. I agree it would be labeled as obscured. None of the friends I grew up with and people I talk to now who had an SNES ever heard of Lufia. I would really love another Lufia.
I LOVE your videos. One of the best retro channels out there
+Michael Steele Thanks Michael
UN Squadron is one of my personal FAV'S ^^ Played it back in the days and enjoyed it much.
I gotta try out Ogre Battle, that one looks really cool and unique.
No problem getting these games to play on a brilliant snes mini.
Some more obscure/overlooked SNES hidden gems :
Actraiser 2 (this game is really fun once you get the hang of the flying mechanics)
Congo's Caper
Joe & Mac 2
Loony Tunes B-Ball
Lost Vikings 1 & 2
Marvel Super Heroes in War of the Gems
Metal Warriors
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers the Movie
Prehistorik Man
Saturday Night Slam Masters
Super Adventure Island II
I'd say True Lies was the first GOOD movie-based video game I remember playing. Plus the cheat codes all being Arnie references was hilarious.
One more thing, Ogre Battle may have been a great game, but I feel the PlayStation version of March of the Black Queen was a better game. The tarot cards themselves were hit or miss, and one bad pull when liberating a city could ruin all the time invested into that chapter.
I like how he says "if you can find it" like we aren't all just going to emulate it.
Kyle Thomas I own all these games. I hate emulators.
@@tombetty1313 good luck playing earthbound then
