  • Hi. My name is Darek and in this video I'll show you Chain Saw HACK 1 - Chop Saw Some stuff I used:
    The Chain saw STIGA 405 2HP
    The Belt 10 mm
    The Ball bearings UCPA 201 x2
    The Metal cutting blade 300 x 32 x 3,2 mm
    A Set of home made pulley 1:1,75
    One aluminum sheet (cover)
    What do I think about this modification? My saw was unregulated and didn't have full power. Pulley in the saw should be made from hard material (hard wood, aluminium or steel)
    The spring washers must be used in all screw.
    For certainty you must use a counter nut to fix the blade.
    If you have any question write them bellow and if you like this video pleas share this on your social media :)

    Something not that commonly seen on RUclips anymore today: A proper hack! Made with simple, basic tools, and a result that appears both functional and reasonably safe. I like that you took the time to add proper belt and blade guards, something many people will skip when making such a hack. I agree that the pulleys should be made from a different material, not so much because of hardness but because the wood will warp and potentially come apart during use. Stacked up differently sized plates of sheet aluminium, screwed together and then turned to shape on the "late"/drill press could work. Or even just make them from a solid piece of aluminium, using a file and the hack-lathe method.
    For speed regulation a governor system similar to the ones used on cheap power generators could be used, that should be quite easy to add to the existing chainsaw motor!

    • @Topy44
      @Topy44 7 лет назад +4

      Oh, and another source for pulleys: Just check your local car scrapheap! Water pumps and generators in many cars have easily removable pulleys that are simple to adapt for your use, and they should be next to free (they are usually trashed together with the broken pump/generator). Especially many older cars will use the same type of belt you are using.

    Pomysł super. Jakie średnice kół pasowych zrobiłeś? Wszystko fajnie, tylko trzeba pamiętać, że pilarka spalinowa rozpędza się do 11-12 tys. obr/min, a tarcze tnące 230 mm mają zalecane max 6650 obr/min. Nie chciałbym trzymać tego w ręku, gdy tarcza rozsypie się na kawałki.

    This is a chainsaw hack?? Huh... Abrasive cut off saws built on the chainsaw design have been around for decades. Seems to me it would be far simpler to get an abrasive cut off conversion kit. Not to mention the conversion kit would most likely make use of a centrifugal clutch, which would make the saw more powerful. I know this is true because I replaced the bar and chain on my old saw, but accidentally jammed the clutch during reassembly. You couldn't put any force into the cut as it killed the engine. Once I fixed the clutch, the saw cut like a champ. On this hack, I have to wonder how long those wooden pulleys will last before needing to be replaced. If this guy would use a clutch with chain drive, he'd really have something. Probably saved a good bit of money over buying a conversion kit.

    Extremely brilliant fabrication superb engineering, but and I do not mean this in a demeaning way the job is not economically viable because it must have taken at least two days to fabricate the parts = £200 plus the cost of the steel and wood say £30 plus assembly and test another £100 so total £330. Where I live we have regular tool boot sales and for £200 I can easily buy a chainsaw and still saw albeit second hand but working well. I know what I would do.
