When Independent Nightingale is TENTH on the list, that gets you thinking about just how powerful some burn cards can be (although I'm guessing it was so low only because the burn damage part of its effect wasn't really the main reason it was so good.).

All this, and NO Solar Flare Dragon? That was my go-to monster back in the days when I still played the game when I attended tournaments at a hobby shop. Solar Flare Dragon is a level 4 Pyro type, Fire Attribute, monster that had two effects. One of which was a burn effect. The burn effect deals 500 points of damage during the controller's End Phase. Its other effect was being able to be protected from attacks if there was another Pyro type monster on the field. Put two Solar Flare Dragons on the field and you had a very solid line of defense for your Life Points that ALSO deals damage. I know it's a bit dated these days, but it helped me last in duels. If you had three of them out and SOMEHOW your opponent had no monsters out with the Molten Destruction field spell active, you could end it by your next turn. Molten Destruction boosts Fire attribute monster's attack points by 500 but take away 400 defense points. Solar Flare Dragon has a base attack power of 1500. The aforementioned field spell would boost the mentioned monster's attack to 2000, allowing you to cut your opponent's life points down to size. Then the burn effect from ending your own turn if they had no way to disarm the effect. Of course, that'd be the BEST case scenario. Of course, it also doesn't hurt to have a Backfire Trap Card ready.

#1 Chain Energy. I use a burn deck and this is the most under appreciated card out there.
Why? Most players don't have cards that will remove a spell right away. Your opponent will usually need to play 'at least' 4 cards for them to start actually doing anything that these current decks actually do. This means an easy 2k.

Back in the day when the format was just Battle City era rules I had a crafty stall deck before I even knew what it was called. It was a stall burn deck that I didn't realize that had also like 13 different strategies you could employ but it was all difficult to do any of them because you could easily brick really hardcore since there was no real archtype engine at the time to search/ mill your deck for what you needed.
Anyways back then before anyone really knew what it was, I'd throw down my Wave-Motion Cannon and just forget about it for (x) amount of turns but I'd keep track of how many of my standby phases passed. It would ultimately be my trump card if some things didn't work out. My main method of how I'd want the duel to go was a combination of using Umi or Legendary Ocean + Tornado Wall + Gravity Bind + Mask of Restrict + Mucus Yolk, as the point of this was to annoy the hell out of my opponent to not be able to do anything since most people would tend to fill their deck with pork LvL 4+ monsters, and Mucus Yolk could attack their LP directly and increase its ATK by 1k per turn if it deals damage (if its ATK is ever reduced back to zero for some reason by a card effect you'd have to start all over again). This method was designed with the intent to force my opponent into using their best spell cards to get rid of them, while my true intent was to build up cards in my hand to do the next thing.
The next thing would be a combination of the Eye of Truth + Bad Reaction to Simochi, and of course, Wave-Motion Cannon.
But by then the duel would normally be over unless I felt like stalling it a little more. The main point of forcing my opponent to use up their best cards to end my stalling, is to bust out my Buster Blader & boss monster(s) Dark Paladin/ etc. Normally around then at least 15+ standby phases had passed and people still forgot that I had Wave-Motion Cannon in play and no matter what it'd be an OTK.
edit: Oh and also, I forget what the card was but before I traded it away for a Tyrant Dragon, I had a card that could skip my opponents next turn to bring me back to a Main Phase 1, this worked out really well for my Wave-Motion Cannon.

Years ago, I played a casual against a friend who tried to make a Magical Explosion deck. He got his GY all set up but hadn't set the M.E. yet. Not sure why, but it goes to my turn. What he didn't know I had planned to discard Jinzo from my hand for a cost, and then flip my Call/Haunted at the start of his turn. Worked like a charm. Lol
    Fun times in 2010's.

7:00 I'm not an expert in gem-knights or gem-knight ftk. But personally i would consider the Gem-Knight link-2 (Phantom Quartz) a WAY better way to loop Master Diamond, since the link-2's first effect allows you to search a card on summon, and most importantly, it's second effect allows you to return resources from the banished zone (i think) and GY to the deck in order to perform a fusion summon, which means you can burn with lazuli, summon master diamond to burn again and make the link-2 using master diamond and another monster, then you proceed to return master diamond and other gem-knights to the deck in order to summon Lady Brilliant Diamond using Phantom Quartz's effect, which can then summon Master Diamond with no additional effort and burn once again (which is most likely 8000 points of damage already)

A good burn card that supports aqua, fish, and sea serpent type of is Poseidon Wave, which is a trap card that can negate an attack on your monster plus deal 800 burn damage per aqua, fish, and sea serpent type of card that you control.

I would like to see a list of cards used in reaction to opponent's battle, such as Magic Cylinder, Mirror Force ect. If you have enough cards to separate them into the two categories of inflicting damage compared to negating the attack or destroying the opponent's monsters, then all the better! Thanks for asking for suggestions, and considering them

You could use chain strike with decks like counter fairies that have a lot of trigger effects that go off after a counter trap resolves, or with cards that gain spell counters from only normal spells

As a MTG player (don’t ask why I watch these even though I don’t play YGO, idk lol just entertaining to learn about another card game) it feels to me like Konami just bans any card that becomes good or could become good. In MTG very few cards are banned, and if they are it’s only with heavy consideration or only for a certain format etc. It feels like in every one of these videos every time you talk about a card being good you’re like “and then it was banned / limited so it couldn’t be good anymore”. I’m sure the fact that there’s not a resource system like mana in YGO is most of the reason, as mana costs inherently limit and balance cards. It feels like having the option to run more cards and just making good counters for problem cards makes for a healthier game to me.

    • @matthewtaylor2890
      @matthewtaylor2890 4 года назад +1

I get where you're coming from, I also play MTG, but most of the shit on the ban list is degenerate. Like drop half your opponents hand and set up a board before they can play degenerate. The mana and set rotations are huge for magic not having to ban stuff, Yu-Gi-Oh not having mana just enables such bullshit strats

Another thing with Magical Explosion is that it was banned swiftly after Sky Striker came out, as we all know it's a heavy spell deck.
They also had 3 copies of That Grass Looks Greener.
Grass was moved to 2 on the same list that this was banned and both have remained there to this day.

Crimson Nova, The Dark Cubic Lord is a 3k beater with an easy summoning mechanic, has protection from monsters with 3k or less original attack, can attack a second time if it destroys a monster, and deals 3k burn damage to both players at the end of the turn. Really wish it was on the list, it's one of my favorite cards.

Top ten non-effect extra deck monsters.
    Criteria for ranking can include:
    - their usage as beaters/walls
    - how easy they are to bring out
    - how generic/common their materials are
    - utility for extra deck climbing (synchro climbing, link climbing, xyz rank ups, etc)
    - usefulness based on their type, level, or attribute
    - potential to be cheated out
    - any support cards they can make use of
    - actual competitive appearances, if any

  • @happy_face69

I think you have missed several better options in preference of high end monsters which actually would be easier to use as they are continuous traps (for instance, though I know you did mention secret barrel), don't require prerequisite cards to get out (fusion, XYZ or even high level tributes), can still be protected from being destroyed, and they do some serious amounts of accumulated damage. For instance "Ominous Fortunetelling" inflicts 700 damage if you can correctly guess what type of card you randomly choose from your opponent's hand, but considering the amount of monsters people need that is always a good bet and if you think they have special summoned everything they can they probably still have more monsters in their hand (especially if you think people tend to use hand traps now a days, while setting their trap cards due to taking a turn before they can be played). So keeping it on the field for 4 turns may not inflict 2,800 all the time, but it surely is an easier card to play than some of the cards in the video! And if you want something with a little bit more certainty then multiple copies of "Solar Flare Dragon" is great, as each card inflicts 500 damage to your opponent during the end phase of your turn and can not be attacked while there is another pyro card on the field - so if you have 2 on the field at the same time, they can protect each other from attacks while inflicting 1,000 damage each of your turns. I say that is a very good combo which is very easy to get out as they are level 4, and now a days you can summon them on the same turn without too much difficulty.

    Top 10 Wyrm monsters.

Okay. I'm done making my obligatory suggestions.
I remember my trap burn deck. Used defensive monsters while running Secret Barrel, Just Desserts, Ceasefire and so forth. Never won in real life with it, but I still got a kick out of using it against AIs in videogames.
Lapis Lazuli is probably my favorite Gem-Knight fusion just for the burn effect and why I fell for the archetype as a whole.
