I have the Sony A-57 and in watching your tutorial, I just found that function (live view display) under the "gear" symbol #2 (on yours it's "gear" symbol #3) ... thanks so much for this tutorial
Thanks for those who replied me .. Appreciate that much !! Just another add on, the a77 mark ll comes with this function mentioned in video :) just bought it aha enjoy!
Hi Dustin thank you soooo MUCH!!!! this tip will now make my life so much easier in the studio, Im using a Sony A65 and it does have the ability to change the live view mode.
lol... you know it... I couldn't figure out what the heck was going on. It makes it very difficult to change the pose and focal length when you cant see the subject. Thanks Again =D
I had the same issue while shooting strobes and found the option in the menu to turn off liveview on my A57. I use Paul C Buff cybersync triggers & receivers.
THANK YOU! I've used my Sony A99 for 2 years. I usually shoot on location in natural light. When I work in my studio I would set up my studio strobes and also have to put a continuous light source (my IceLight) on my subject just so I can see them in the viewfinder. But it was always dark. Then of course the studio lights would overpower the continuous light when they flash and I could see what I was getting. Kind of a pain. Thanks again.
+The Dude With The Camera I am glad that I can save you lots of frustration! I was so confused at first thinking that Sony had dropped the ball on something... But luckily They knew what they were doing and just had a bit of a secret way to get there!
I am leaning towards buying the Sony A77 Mark II camera & I was wondering if you can do a video on "ADVANCED SHOOTING OPTIONS SONY A77 MARK II, like 3D sweep panorama, handheld twilight mode, Auto HDR mode, multi frame noise reduction mode, Thank you,
hai..can u plzz tell me to how to reduce noise while making video in sony A58..nd i also want to know that how to set shutter speed maximum for very fast moving objects..
I own a Sony A58 and want to take Macro pictures of coins in particular. Both front and back. Sections or portions of coins which have identifying differences between one and another. In short, my focus is entirely on coins. Which modern day or Minolta lens do you recommend? I own a macro ring and am ready to get up close and personal with coins. Thanks.
+Errol Rojas Hello! The challenge with macro photography photography is getting the focus right. Have you heard of focus stacking? Luckily your subject being a coin with be still allowing you to focus stack. What focus stacking is, is the combining of several shots at different focus points to make one entirely in focus photo. You need to do this because as you get closer to an object the depth of field becomes much more shallow. The macro lens I have been using and love is the Venus 60mm. It is all manual focus and aperture, but it is a great lens for the price!
Hi , can I ask you? what kind of trigger best for Sony Alpha camera , I had A65 , I looked in amazon And another website I did not find any wireless trigger working with Sony's cameras, I want build my studio in home but The trigger my big problem now
I'll be totally honest in saying that I have only shot Sony cameras from the beginning so it is hard for me to make a statement like that. But I will say that Sony is doing some really advanced things with their focusing systems that give them and advantage over many of the competitors. I think the ability to focus and shoot simultaneously without having to wait for the mirror to drop down is one of the key advantages.
I have a sony a65 and ishoot remote speedlight trigger and recievers. how do I get flash to work without pop up flash. Using speedlight for artistic lighting and don't want flash from camera but if I don't use pop-up flash it wont trigger speedlights.
There are several options. if you are on a budget you can use the cactus v5 but if you want to be able to utilize features like ttl and adjusting flash strength you may want to look at the phottix odin
Hi ... can you please help me, i like to set the menu of my Sony Alpha 57 for handheld HDR ....can you please help..what i mean is to be able to take 3 shots with different exposures
Hey Dustin, I own a Sony alpha 58. I generally use it for Video. My query is whenever I press record button while on Manual mode or any other mode. It starts recording on Program auto of The Movie mode. Is it possible that I can change the setting and make it to recording manual in Movie mode.
It all depends which flashes you use. The 2 Sony flashes that I have are able to be triggered that way. Using the on camera flash should also brighten up the viewfinder so hopefully you wouldn't need this trick.
I do have the sony slt a57 and it does have the setting live view display setting I have the sony macro lens 30 mm so i bought mini studio but I'm having trouble taking clear macro objects like cellphones any suggestions fro specific settings thank you.
TheShutterSchool Yes the 57 does....57's are miracle cameras for their price...which keeps increasing since the 58 replaced it if you can even find one :)
SIR HOW CAN I USE SONY ALPHA 58 IN STUDIO WITH TRIGGER SCREEN IS TOTALY BALCK AND OBJECT WAS NOT LIVE ON SCREEN HOW CAN I CHANGE SETTINGS PLEASE SUGGEST ME .
HI there, i got the a58, i m a beginner for photography, i need your expert advise how to start using my DSLR for capturing picture in different mode.....
i have sony alpha230 Camera but do not know how to capture pics without Blur area , i want all the picture Sharp, the thing and the background ,can you show me some Tips ?
Hello +Mohammad Omar Lemar ! Are you talking about the area behind your subject is out of focus? That is usually a good thing because it causes separation between your subject and the scene. But if you need the entire shot you are going to need to increase your aperture. here is my video about Aperture ruclips.net/video/RBfP5pwXfug/видео.html
The a58 is a great camera to get started with. You may eventually outgrow it but it will be perfect for helping you learn all the basics of photography
Im sorry to hear that Kenny. I suggest trying a light meter to get you to proper exposure quick and they hopefully you can make adjustments from there. unfortunately you still wont be able to see! Hopefully they will fix it in a firmware update!
Hello Ritesh! If it is the same as my a55 in manual you hold down the av button (it has the black and white box with the plus and minus). Let me know if that works!
skb96 when you turn the live view option off it just makes it so that you can see in darker enviroments. You need to rely on metering or a little trial and error to get that proper exposure. I always have the shot review turned on so I can see what I am actually shooting
Thanks a ton for your tip. I had bought 2 A58 cameras & had no clue about the viewfinder issue. I am very grateful to you now.
Omg thank you so much for this! It worked on my sony a58
I have the Sony A-57 and in watching your tutorial, I just found that function (live view display) under the "gear" symbol #2 (on yours it's "gear" symbol #3) ... thanks so much for this tutorial
OMFG THANK GOD FOR YOU AND THIS VIDEO
Thank you. Waiting for my a65 and this would have driven me up the wall. It's what has been stopping me from getting cameras with e-viewfinders.

would you say the Sony DSLT focusing system is better, faster than traditional DSLR systems?
I'll be totally honest in saying that I have only shot Sony cameras from the beginning so it is hard for me to make a statement like that. But I will say that Sony is doing some really advanced things with their focusing systems that give them and advantage over many of the competitors.
